Contestants Wanted for the King Arthur Flour Sponsored Baking Contests at the Fair

H

ome bakers it is time to pull your King Arthur Flour from your cupboards and fire up your ovens – your creativity and skill could earn you some great prizes during this year’s baking contests at the Colorado County Fair, being held September 24-27. “King Arthur Flour is America’s oldest flour company. We have been providing premier flour, baking ingredients, and instruction for the last 225 years,” said Julie Christopher, Program Manager with the company. “It is our mission to support and inspire bakers worldwide and we could not be

more excited to sponsor these contests.” Entry forms may be submitted at the Colorado County Extension Office now through September 11. The categories include made from

scratch cakes, cookies, pies, quick breads, yeast breads, bread machine yeast breads, miscellaneous baked items and Diabetic items from the pre-mentioned categories. These will be judged

on appearance (uniformity, color, shape), texture (appropriate for each item), and taste. Having the best quality ingredients produces the best and most consistent baked goods, so contes-

tants must use King Arthur Flour in their recipes. Prizes are provided by King Arthur Flour and include gift cards to kingarthurflour.com, cookbooks, baking pans and ribbons. “This will be the sixth year that King Arthur Flour has supported the Colorado County Fair”, said Janis Pfeffer, Colorado County Extension Agent-Family & Consumer Sciences. “They approached us in 2010 offering to sponsor this contest and have been with us every year since.” For more information about the Colorado County Fair and complete contest rules, please visit coloradocountyfair.org.
