dsummers@coloradocommunitymedia.com The new Lewis-Palmer District 38 Superintendent will be announced at the board of education special meeting on March 12. Four finalists — Karen Brofft, Antonio D. Giurado, Karin Reynolds and Julia Roark — are in the running for the job. Brofft is the current assistant superintendent for Englewood Schools. son County Public Schools in Golden. Reynolds is the deputy superintendent for Academy School District 20. Reynolds is also a finalist for the Minidoka County Superintendent position in (Rupert, Idaho). Roark is the assistant superintendent of Aspen School District in Aspen. On March 7, the public was welcome for a meet and talk with the finalists at the district administration building (Big Red). On March 8, the finalists were interviewed in closed session by three preselected interview teams comprised of community members, staff, parents,

The ballot for the April 1 Palmer Lake election will be finalized on March 8 and voters should expect to get their ballots in the mail no later than March 18. The mail-in election has three key components. Current mayor Nikki McDonald will be opposed by two candidates; all six council seats are up for grabs; and last, but certainly not least, voters will get the chance to decide if recreational sales of marijuana should be allowed in the town. McDonald is being opposed by Randy Fritz and Meredith Bromfield. Fritz is a 32year army veteran. Bromfield is president of the Palmer Lake Art Group. The town council race should also be very interesting. All six seats are up for election because the current members were appointed two years ago. However, only four of them are running for reelection — Shana Ball, Michael Maddox, Rich Kuehster and John Russell. Not running for reelection are Mike Patrizi and Bob Grado. The five new candidates on the ballot are Cindy Allen, Paul Banta, Jan Martin, Trish Flake and Cathy Aldworth. “We’ll see what happens,” Maddox said of his run for reelection. “I’ve enjoyed serving the people of Palmer Lake.” The pot issue will be closely watched Ballot continues on Page 5
