Annual awards ceremony recognizes dedicated employees Staff Report At an annual awards ceremony, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory celebrated the issuance of 43 U.S. patents in fiscal year 2014, which is the largest number in lab history, and exceeds 2013’s total by nearly three times. Min Zhang was recognized as Distinguished Innovator for dedicating 25 years of work with the lab’s Energy Department’s Bioenergy Technology Program. Two people were given a Rising Star award, which recognizes the lab’s employees who have fewer than six years of service: Chuck Booten, who works in buildings and thermal systems, and John Simon, who works in materials applications and performance. The awards ceremony, which took place this year on May 7 at the Denver West Marriott in Golden, celebrates the lab’s innovation and technology transfer accomplishments from the past year. Following the ceremony was a networking reception.
