uke Heesacker is many things — a business owner, a husband, a father, a board member and, now, Man of the Year. Heesacker, owner of Arvada Rent Alls, was named the 2012 Man of the Year by former winners and the Arvada Chamber of Commerce. “I’m pretty proud of it,” Heesacker said. “The group that chooses are all previous winners, and it is a big honor to be picked by them.” Heesacker moved to Arvada in the 1960s, graduated from Arvada West High School and began working at Arvada Rent Alls in 1971. In 1986, Heesacker and two co-workers bought Arvada Rent Alls. Luke is often described by his peers as committed to Arvada, something all Man of the Year winners must be. “Winners have to contribute to Arvada somehow and contribute to the betterment of Arvada,” said Chamber of Commerce President Dot Wright. “We reach out far and wide to find the unsung heroes and people who give their heart and soul to the community.” Heesacker has served on the Apex/North Jeffco Park and Recreation District Foundation board and the Sooper Credit Union Community Foundation board since 2009. He also serves on the Arvada Economic Development Association Retention Committee. Outside of official board duties, Heesacker has also contributed to the Arvada Community Food Bank, Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, the Arvada Police Department and a variety of events and programs with schools, church and more. “I try to be involved in the community,” Heesacker said. “Involvement makes for a better community. Things get done in the community that can’t be done without volunteers.”

Heesacker is the 62nd Arvadan to be named Man of the Year. He will be honored at the Arvada Chamber of Commerce’s annual Man and Woman of the Year and Arvada Young Professionals Leaders luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday,
March 28, at the Arvada Center, 6901 Wadsworth Blvd. Tickets for the luncheon are $40 for Chamber members and $50 for non-members. Reservations can be made by calling 303-424-0313.

n 1987, Connie Zimmerman founded Colorado Homeless Families, a transitional housing program to help homeless families reach self-sufficiency. Since then Colorado Homeless Families has housed 457 families, 378 of which were selfsufficient upon graduation from the program. Because of efforts to help those less fortunate, the Arvada Chamber of Commerce named Zimmerman the 2012 Woman of the Year. For 25 years Zimmerman has spent countless hours writing grants, running the organization and just caring for people. “A lot of people on the committee had never heard of me because I’m so busy taking care of people,” Zimmerman said with a laugh. “A lot of great people are doing great things, but I don’t think another person has helped a person buy a house, let alone 130 families.” Zimmerman is the 62nd woman to be named “Woman of the Year,” but this isn’t the first time she has been recognized for
‘These winners truly exemplify the integrity, character, and personality of what makes Arvada a great place to work, live and play.’ Arvada Chamber President Dot Wright her hard work. In 2004, Colorado Homeless Families was featured on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” and received a new duplex and redesigned Family Education Resource Center. In the past, Zimmerman has served on the Colorado Homeless Families board, the board of trustees for Crossroads Baptist Church and as the chairperson of Operation Blessing. Nowadays though, Zimmerman’s focus is helping those in need through Colorado Homeless Families. Zimmerman said she has a great group of people supporting her that make everything possible — including her board of directors, the city of Arvada, Crossroads Baptist Church and her family. “The biggest people behind me is my family,” she said. “(When I was younger) my mom and dad were always reaching out to others. My brother created an orphanage in Cambodia. My family was always reaching out.” Zimmerman will be honored along with Man of the Year
