Shop owners along Washington Avenue handed out hot cider and cookies Dec. 4 for people making their way up to 15th Street, where they bought candles or glow sticks from volunteers with the Golden Chamber of Commerce. Then, with candles glowing and singing “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”

The Golden Transcript reaches 150-year milestone Decades of sharing stories and building community continues

By Christy Steadman csteadman@colorado communitymedia.com For 150 continuous years, The Golden Transcript has been telling stories. There have been many: stories of decisions made by local officials, student achievements by neighborhood children, the growing town’s social gatherings, and more. “Over all these years, the Transcript has connected our community by providing the news we want and need,” said Golden Mayor Marjorie Sloan, who congratulated The Golden Transcript for reaching “such a historic marker.”

The Transcript is believed by local historians to be the oldest news media organization in the Denver metro area, and the oldest continuously published newspaper in the state. To honor the Transcript’s landmark anniversary and the community that has ensured its longevity with its support, Colorado Community Media — which publishes the Transcript — will host a series of events starting in January and culminating with a communitywide celebration in the summer. Reaching 150 years is a “huge milestone” for the paper and for the people of Golden, said Jerry Healey, publisher of Colorado Community Media. He thanked the community for its support and added his driving force is to provide the Transcript with stability to “ensure its
