Frontier High students plead for school to stay open Many say closing facility would derail their education BY TABATHA STEWART SPECIAL TO COLORADO COMMUNITY MEDIA
Caleb Carter, a junior attending Frontier High School, never really planned to go to college. He hoped to graduate from Elizabeth High School, but beyond that he didn’t have a hopeful future. He wasn’t a good student, often got D’s and F’s in his classes, and dreaded going to school each day. But after transferring to Frontier, the alternative high school in Elizabeth, Carter said everything changed. “When I went to Elizabeth High, I used to wake up every day and wonder what I was going to have to deal with at school that day,” said Carter. “Now I wake up and think: `What do I get to learn today?’ After transferring to Frontier I realized I had hope for my future, and it makes me proud.” Carter is planning to pursue an education in the field of auto mechanics or welding after he graduates in 2021. The question for Carter, and the nearly 40 students who currently attend Frontier High, is whether or not they will graduate if the district votes to close the school after the 2020 school year.
