Theresa Kerr finally got to ride a horse. “I wanted go horseback riding when I was a kid, but my parents said it didn’t happen because I was a crybaby,” the Englewood resident said. “All these years I still wanted to ride a horse but never happened. Now, at age 69, my wish was granted when Wish of a Lifetime arranged it.” On March 20, Kerr’s wish came
true when she joined representatives of Wish of a Lifetime and Malley Senior Recreation Center for the trip to the Denver Equestrian Riding School in Jefferson County. “Everyone from Malley, Wish of a Lifetime and the riding school were great and helped me ride a horse named Romeo,” Kerr said. “The experience was wonderful. I believe the organization granting my wish is the greatest honor of my life.” Wish of a Lifetime is a nonprofit organization established by Colorado athlete Jeremy Bloom in 2008, which works to grant wishes to men and women 65 or older. School art show opens at library Englewood event puts district students’ works on display By Tom Munds
tmunds@colorado communitymedia.com The excited voices of children disrupted the normally quiet atmosphere of the Englewood Public Library during the reception and opening of the school district art show. Families and young artists arrived at the library and searched the walls and tops of the shelves for the child’s creation. Adrianna Pena, a fourth-grader at Cherrelyn Elementary School, showed her mother her latest artistic creation. “I made a dragon with fire coming out of its mouth,” the girl explained. “I put ink stamps of Chinese symbols around the edge of the dragon. I don’t know what all the symbols mean but I think one of them means ‘awesome.’ ”
Adriannah Pena, a fourth-grader at Cherrelyn Elementary School, tells her mother Salina about her artwork that is part of the district art show on display at the Englewood Public Library. Pena’s dragon is among several hundred examples of student art on display. Photo by Tom Munds She said she really likes her artwork and, even if given the opportunity, she probably wouldn’t
change anything about her creation. There were paintings, draw-
ings, sculptures and other artwork around the library March 19, and one of the areas that drew a lot of attention were the guitars decorated by students from Colorado’s Finest Alternative School of Choice. Alysia Farnsworth was one of the artists who not only did the artwork on a guitar but built the guitar from scratch. “I loved the idea because I play the guitar and I thought it would be awesome to build my own guitar instead of just going out and buying one,” she said. “This is just the body. When I finish the work on it, I will have a working electric guitar.” She said the work on the body and neck were completed when art teacher Kim Young suggested students do artwork on their guitars. “The theme of the artwork was how music is a gateway of free expression,” Farnsworth said. “I chose to do my guitar about Stevie Nicks because when she was involved in music she was accused
