TRANSPORTATION ❑ Figure out how you are getting to college. (June) If you’re living on campus, figure out how you’re getting all of your stuff to campus for your dorm room. Who is taking you? How will you get there (car, plane, bus, etc.)? When is your move in day/time?
❑ Figure out transportation on/near campus. (July) Can you walk to get to everything you need? Are there busses or shuttles on campus that you can take? Do you absolutely need a car? • College AIM suggests that students do not bring a car to campus their first year unless they absolutely need it. Often cars are very expensive in college because parking, gas and insurance add up quickly and can be hundreds of dollars each month. • If you absolutely need a car, figure out parking. Which lots are closest to your housing/classes? What is the cost per semester/year? How do you buy a permit and register your car?
❑ Map your classes. (August) Before the first day of classes. Figure out where each of your classes are -- which building, what classroom number. Go to each classroom to make sure you can find it, and practice walking the route between classes. I know this sounds ridiculous, but it will make your first day way less stressful!
