❑ Log into your college’s web portal. (Right after you apply)

Most colleges now provide a website, called a portal that is named something like my.collegename.edu, where you can check your financial aid status, submit documents and find important deadlines. Your username and password were probably sent in an email right after you applied. If you cannot find your username and password, contact your school’s admissions office.

On your portal, you might see a message about “holds” on your account. This means that there are some things that you need to do before you can register for classes. If you see any holds, work with your college’s admissions office or with College AIM to take care of them ASAP.

❑ Immunization Records (April)

Most colleges require you to submit your immunization records, showing that you are up-to-date on all shots. You can usually find the form they require on their website or simply by googling the name of your college and “immunization form.” If you cannot find the form, ask your college’s admissions office or College AIM for help. You will need to have your doctor complete the immunization form, certifying that you are up to date on all necessary shots. Once complete, turn it into the school as requested -- either by uploading, emailing, mailing, faxing or dropping it off. Make sure to follow their directions so your form doesn’t get lost in transit and delay the process.

❑ Verification of Lawful Presence (April)

If your school asks for verification of lawful presence, provide one of the documents they require ASAP. Check to see which they require, but usually, one of the following will work: • Current, valid Driver’s License or State ID

• Birth certificate showing date of birth and citizenship or naturalization/immigration/citizenship paperwork if applicable • US Passport or Permanent Resident Card If you are asked to verify lawful presence but you don’t have one of those documents that is completely ok. Just talk to College AIM and we can help.

❑ Final Transcript (May)

All colleges require you to submit your final transcript so they can verify your grades and that you graduated from high school. • In DeKalb County, this transcript is sent by completing the final senior survey in Naviance. Once you select the school you will be attending on the survey, your your counselor should submit it on your behalf. If you completed the senior survey and your college still doesn’t have your final transcript, reach out directly to your counselor to ask them to send it. If you took any AP/Dual Enrollment classes and think you should receive college credit, contact your college’s admissions office to ask what you need to do to receive credit. Follow their instructions, as the process varies by school.
