CNG’s story has always been one of continual innovation and progressive thinking; an 87-year history of visionary people coming together to build a better future for others. We have nearly nine decades of stories that share one thing in common: they began with dreams. Those dreams, followed by action, have made the seemingly impossible possible at CNG.
CNG has been shaped by visionaries who dared to dream big and act boldly. From our earliest supporters—Shell Petroleum, Tropical Oil Company, Bank of London, and The Royal Bank of Canada—to the many families and friends who have invested in our mission, every step forward has been built on dreams turned into action. Today, we stand at the threshold of our most transformative project yet: The Innovation Center. More than just a building, it is the future of learning at CNG. Here, students will become Community Builders, Change Agents, Bold Innovators, and Deep Thinkers, prepared to lead with courage and purpose in a rapidly changing world.
The Innovation Center will be a catalyst for educational transformation, addressing current gaps and preparing our region for the future. It will offer hands-on learning, technology integration, and research opportunities that are critical to developing the skills our students need now and tomorrow. With state-of-the-art technology, collaborative spaces, and programs designed around the most important 21st-century skills, the Innovation Center will be a one-of-a-kind resource in our region, promoting an inclusive, forwardthinking educational experience.
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, this dream is already becoming a eality. But we are not finished yet! Just as past visionaries made the impossible possible, we invite you to join us in finishing what we started—together. The support of one person is important, but the support of thousands is unstoppable.
Thank you for Building CNG´s Future!

With more than 25 years of experience in education across three continents (Latin America, North America and Asia), Dr. Volpe believes deeply in lifelong learning and in helping each student reach their highest academic potential. His leadership is rooted in understanding each student´s unique strengths and challenges, supported by more than a decade of experience in gifted and special education.
A champion of Universal Design for Learning, he empowers teachers with expanded tools and strategies, creating school environments where personal growth is central. He knows that true institutional excellence comes when a school´s mission, values, and strategic plan work in harmony – aligning all school activities.
The power of data is crucial for Dr. Volpe – to inform and drive decision making. By using evidence to shape strategies, he ensures that every initiative – academic, operational, or community-focused, is timely, effective and aligned with CNG’s long term goals.
This year’s theme – Connecting to Build our Future – speaks directly to his leadership philosophy: strong relationships are the foundation for lasting success. Parents, students, alumni, staff and teachers,

grandparents and donors – all key groups that strengthen our bond, honor the traditions that have shaped us, and collaborate to build the future we envision.
Dr. Volpe also brings extensive building experience, having designed and constructed a cutting-edge technology and design innovation lab at Shanghai Community International School. Most recently, leading the building of a brand-new campus as Director General of the American School of Quito. His work fosters a design thinking mindset, encouraging flexibility, creativity and innovation – critical foundations that will serve us now that we have embarked on our most transformative project to date: the construction of the CNG Innovation Center.
At CNG, we believe that planning with vision and purpose is the key to building a stronger future for our students and community. This year’s Strategic Plan focuses on four essential pillars that will guide our actions and inspire our progress: Academic Excellence, Innovative Learning, Talent Management, and Building Community and Engagement.
We are committed to inspiring every student to discover and reach their fullest potential , honoring that excellence is unique to each individual and can take many forms.
We are dedicated to attracting, developing, engaging, and retaining exceptional talent —professionals who are inspired by our mission, guided by our vision, and committed to living our Core Values every day.
We are shaping a dynamic approach to learning that develops both academic and non-academic competencies , intentionally teaching and assessing the skills students need to thrive, adapt, and lead in a future full of new possibilities
Every member of our community is called to embrace, respect, and value themselves and others through intentional, inclusive actions grounded in our Core Values.
Through these pillars, we reaffirm our commitment to delivering world-class education, fostering creativity and innovation, investing in our exceptional educators and staff, and strengthening the bonds that unite our CNG family. Together, these priorities will ensure that our mission— Educating the Mind, Strengthening the Body, and Developing Character for Leadership and Service in the World of Today for a Better Tomorrow —remains alive and impactful for generations to come.

The Innovation Center will be the heart of our school’s future — a dynamic hub where learning, creativity, and community come together. Designed to prepare our students for a rapidly changing world, it will offer spaces that inspire collaboration and teamwork, encouraging cross-disciplinary projects where diverse talents and perspectives combine to tackle real-world challenges. Within these walls, CNG students will grow as Community Builders, Change Agents, Bold Innovators, and Deep Thinkers, equipped with the confidence, resilience, and leadership skills to shape the future.
Through student-centered activities designed to build essential competencies, the Innovation Center will offer purpose-built spaces that align with CNG’s pedagogy and learning outcomes. These dedicated learning environments will enable teachers to nurture key student skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity, and adaptability. They will also foster civicmindedness, encourage sustainability, and promote inquiry and self-reflection. These experiences will not be bound by standard age groups or subject areas.
By addressing current gaps in educational resources and offering a one-of-a-kind learning environment in our region, the Innovation Center ensures that CNG students are ready not just to adapt to the future, but to shape it. This is not just an investment in a building, it is an investment in the next generation - in their ability to lead with purpose, innovate with courage, and thrive in a world of limitless possibilities.
Optimized for: Individualized teaching practices, traditional structures and timetable, classroom - based community, single teacher classroom, teacherdirected learning.

around the idea of learning communities. In our experience, traditional cells and bells schools can be reconfigured as learning communities without a huge investment of capital dollars and, almost always, such changes can be accomplished over the summer break.
From an operational standpoint also, the learning community offers a lot of benefits in that it is an agile, dynamic space that can quickly adapt to changes in population, pedagogy, and curriculum. It is the quintessential representation of a “Learning Building”11 — a building that evolves over time as it “learns” from the users who occupy the space.
Optimized for: Curriculum organized around interdisciplinary themes, distributed democratic leadership, shared student responsibility, co-facilitated, cohort scheduling, highest levels of “community” and selt directed learning.
Figure 1-10: The hardware-software connection comes into full force in this model of space design where there are no individually owned classrooms. There are a wide variety of spaces to facilitate different modalities of learning and a much richer curriculum than would be permitted under the traditional cells-and-bells model of classrooms aligned along a corridor.
