Academics

The academic program at CNG provides a robust, college-preparatory curriculum based on the most rigorous standards from the United States and Colombia. CNG groups its programs across four building levels: Primary (K4-2nd grades), Elementary (3rd-5th grades), Middle School (6th-8th grades) and High School (9th12th grades). Our educators and staff strongly support the school’s philosophy that all children can achieve their highest individual potential for excellence across their academic and personal goals.

We make it a priority to ensure that every student finds support for an individualized learning journey by providing high quality programs to all types of learners and incorporating research and best practices to impart differentiated instruction. Our assessment system uses a 4-point scale and follows the standards-based grading approach, whereby students’ performance is enhanced by the feedback they receive.

Exceptional Learner Programs

CNG has distinguished itself among international schools by offering one of the most comprehensive, inclusive, and highly regarded learning-support programs in the world. On an annual basis, over 200 students receive some type of learning support from mild to moderate to even intensive.

Our school also offers gifted-and-talented programs from Elementary through High School with over 250 students identified as top performers through standardized testing. Students can select from among 30 different Advanced Placement courses with Honors programs available from Grades 3-12. All CNG programs incorporate design thinking and project-based learning, standards-based assessment and reporting, and a scaffolded curricular program.

Innovation

CNG promotes two interconnected objectives for institutional advancement in learning and teaching. First, the school’s Honored Tradition strand, which comprises 85% of our program, relates to key learning objectives and includes acquiring knowledge and skills that are the core of our collegepreparatory program for both Colombian and U.S. requirements. Second, the Visionary Future strand, most recently identified through Project 2025, comprises about 15% of our program and focuses on 21st-Century skills and the 4 C’s of Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication and Creativity. Our learning frameworks promote open-ended design challenges and problem solving skills which prepare students for university and for the everchanging job markets of the future.

AP Academy

CNG embraces the College Board’s Advanced Placement program by establishing in Elementary and Middle School the building blocks that will grow into Pre-AP and AP courses in High School. High school students may chose from 30 AP courses and can also elect to participate in the Advanced Placement International Diploma and the AP Capstone Diploma. All seniors take AP Research or Grade 12 English/Research.

Co-curricular Program

CWW

CNG is committed to providing experiential learning through Classroom Without Walls (CWW), a K4-12 outdoor learning program intended to expand our curriculum beyond the classroom. CWW provides a space for cultural, social and leadership learning opportunities in the most prominent ecological and historical destinations in Colombia, allowing students and teachers to work with and learn from local communities.

Sports & Co-Curricular Activities

Colegio Nueva Granada provides its students with a wide range of afterschool activities, clubs, organizations and competitive sports. CNG is part of a 27-school athletic and activities league. CNG also provides students of all grades exciting opportunities to learn and develop interest outside the classroom through our Condor Activities Program. Areas of focus include performing and visual arts, physical education, science, technology and more. With over 25 different classes taught by over 60 experienced instructors, we strive to provide cocurricular activities for all students and their varied interests.

Service Learning

The school also provides engaging co-curricular activities and fosters social service learning activities throughout Colombia and in our very own foundation school located on campus, the Fundación Colegio Nueva Granada which serves 375 highly disadvantaged students and families from surrounding neighborhoods. Interaction between CNG and Foundation students occurs across the grade levels as part of our mission to develop responsible global citizens. All CNG community service programs are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in the form of project based learning.

We are accredited by Cognia/AdvancED and the Colombian Ministry of Education, and we are proud to be recognized for our efforts to remain at the forefront of educational and organizational excellence. As three examples, Cognia, the world’s largest accrediting agency, recognized CNG in 2022 as a School of Distinction after achieving one of the highest-ever ratings in Latin America on their “Index of Educational Quality”. CNG was also the first school in South America to be honored as a School of Character in 2020 by Character.org after completing their rigorous 11-principle accreditation process. Additionally, our school received the Templeton Prize in 2018 for our joint work with our foundation school and the positive impact on helping transform our students and communities through this community-service impact project.

Visionary and Responsible Corporate Governance

The CNG parent community democratically elects a seven-member Board of Directors who provide direction on strategic planning, finance, and policy for our non-profit organization. Elected members can serve up to three consecutive two-year terms before rotating out for a minimum of one year. Additionally, the U.S. Ambassador appoints a representative to serve on the Board as a non-voting member.

The CNG Board of Directors has a decadeslong history of stability, cooperation, and a high degree of professionalism allowing school directors room to successfully lead and implement a shared broad vision for the school.

CNG has a talented and well-structured 25-member Admin Team with proven administrative experience in over 30 different countries, which guides continuous school improvement efforts through a process of annual strategic planning in conjunction with the Board and Directors.

Faculty and Staff

CNG fosters a caring educational environment through a dynamic balance of local and international faculty to promote awareness, appreciation, and inclusion across our multicultural demographic of students and community members. The school employs 350 teachers with international experience in more than 75 different countries. CNG has the highest number of international teachers across all schools in Colombia.

Our faculty receive ongoing training in differentiation to benefit all students across the entire learning continuum. Continuous learning remains a high priority at CNG, and staff members have opportunities to develop professionally by attending in-country and international conferences as well as participating in on-campus and virtual training sessions with experts in their fields of study.

RESPONSIBILITY official director

As the Chief Executive Officer, the Director is responsible for administering the CNG Mission, Vision and Philosophy within the parameters outlined by the Board of Directors’ policies and established procedures. The Director is responsible for the selection, assignment, evaluation, and termination, when necessary, of all school employees, the management of physical plant and equipment, the administration and supervision of the education program, and the maintenance of school-community relations. The Director is ultimately responsible for his/her actions to the Board of Directors. He/she may delegate to members of the staff portions of these responsibilities (with appropriate authority), but cannot relinquish his/her overall final accountability for all student and school performance efforts and results.

FIRST YEAR AT CNG envisioning a successful

While the Board Policy Manual encapsulates the role of all Directors through time, in your first year at CNG, we hope you’re excited to take on the challenges of:

1. Building positive relationships with all CNG stakeholder groups (Board of Directors, faculty, staff, parents, students, alumni, prospective families and prospective faculty, and Fundación Hogar Nueva Granada) by:

• Gaining understanding of our school culture and Colombian culture and language.

• Meeting in-depth with CNG’s established, capable teams to build trust, effectively delegate and streamline work flows.

• Balancing academic, financial, and operational leadership responsibilities.

• Building upon well-established diverse learner programs through data-driven decision making (K4 through 12, Colombian and American, Learning Center, Gifted & Talented and Character Education, the Foundation and other service learning initiatives, among others), and

• Investing time and energy in reaching out and getting to know all stakeholder groups and allowing them to get to know you to generate esteem, confidence, and knowledge in both directions.

2. Continuing the implementation of CNG’s Strategic Plan

3. Carrying forward public and private fundraising with donors of all levels by expanding on long and shortterm development strategies.

4. Overseeing the construction of the school’s new Innovation Center.

5. Directly addressing ongoing challenges in global recruitment related to a shrinking candidate pool.

6. Communicating a compelling CNG story and highlighting our value proposition throughout the admissions process, customizing Director messaging to diverse audiences, and presenting yourself enthusiastically as the school’s new face of the future.

7. Serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the Fundación Hogar Nueva Granada and facilitating well-established learning, fundraising, and socialservice initiatives between FHNG and CNG.

PROFILE our candidate

To be our new Director, it is of critical importance to have:

• Previous experience in the capacity of Director or Deputy Director in a K-12 international school with an U.S.-style curriculum.

• Advanced degree in educational administration.

• High expectations and a strong commitment to an inclusive, standardsbased educational program.

• The ability to effectively communicate a shared vision and common purpose, and the desire to lead the school in a direction consistent with its current mission and vision.

• Multicultural awareness, intercultural competence, and a commitment to global understanding.

• Experience in and knowledge of current American educational philosophy and the Advanced Placement program.

• Instructional leadership background with extensive knowledge in using data to build, implement, and evaluate curriculum, innovative teaching, and assessment methodologies.

• Strong background of financial management in planning, budgeting, and executing annual operating funds with fiscal responsibility.

& BENEFITS compensation

The salary and benefits are highly competitive and will be dependent upon the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. The initial contract is for three years, but we hope to build a longer-term future together. The new Director will officially commence their duties in July of 2025 but will have the opportunity to make transition visits to CNG during the 2024-25 school year as schedules permit.
