will go directly to the Penn State Worthington Scranton Student Hardship Fund, which helps our students who are experiencing unexpected situations, like house fires, loss of a job, a major car accident, a death in the family and many other situations that jeopardize their ability to continue studying at the campus.” Johnson hopes the event will fill the drivein. “There are limited parking spaces, so I suggest getting tickets in advance at either the Circle Drive-In or on campus in our bookstore

from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays,” she said. “If there are any tickets left, we will have them available after noon on Saturday at the Circle Drive-In ticket office. Once they are sold out, unfortunately, we won’t be able to accommodate any more cars.” Johnson thinks it “will be like a Beaver Stadium East,” and says attendees “can prepare and pack their own food, tables, chairs, blankets, Penn State swag or anything else they need to be comfortable to watch the game.” For more information, call 570-963-2537.

Everybody loves to tailgate, but eventually you have to close up the tailgate and go watch the game. But what if you could tailgate and watch the game? That’s what’s happening this weekend, as four local Penn State University alumni groups host the first-ever drive-in tailgate Saturday, Oct. 17, at the The Circle Drive-In, 1911 Scranton-Carbondale Highway in Dickson City. Admission is $10 per car and $20 per recreational vehicle. You are free to bring food and refreshments. The snack bar will also be open. Gates will open at 6 p.m. for tailgating and the Penn State-Ohio State game starts at 8 p.m. What a great idea, right? The person who had this great idea is Deb Johnson, alumni and development specialist at Penn State’s Worthington Scranton campus. “No matter what the teams are ranked, the Penn State vs. Ohio State game is always a big game for us,” she explained. “Unfortunately, Ohio State is the home team this year, so many loyal Penn State fans will not be able to make the trip. I read a very cool feature story in The Times-Tribune about the history and recent updates at the Circle Drive In. I thought, ‘Wow. I wonder if they could show the game live.” I made a couple of calls and spoke to both the owner, Mike Delfino, and manager Dave Castelli, who really went out of their way to make this happen. I certainly know it wasn’t easy to get all of the licenses and paperwork needed from the Big 10 and Penn State and the alumni groups really appreciate their efforts.” Organizers for the PSU vs. Ohio State tailgate meet at the drive-in to dicuss the upcoming event. Johnson said this family-friendly event is From left, seated: Kathy Casarin, PSWS Alumni Society president and Dave Castelli, Circle meant to be a big celebration of Penn State alum- Drive-In manager.
