According to historians, you can thank Protestant Christian reformer Martin Luther, who reportedly came up with the tradition of the Easter egg hunt. And people have been having them every Easter since the 17th century. In our area, there are several scheduled over the next two weekends. Whichever one you choose, a word to the wise: be sure to be on time. Once the hoardes of kids roar into action, it doesn’t last long. • The Jermyn Police Department, the Jermyn Lions Club and Jermyn Knights of Columbus Council will hold a hunt Saturday, March 24, at 10 a.m. at the Rippy Callahan Park on Mellow Court. Candy and eggs for the hunt have been donated to the Jermyn Police Department by an anonymous borough business, as have coupons for food items by Texas Roadhouse and McDonald’s. The Lions Club and Knights of Columbus have three bicycles to give away as part of the hunt. The hunt is open to children up to 12 years of age.
