On the 30th of June, over 85 business leaders and community members supported the Georges River LifeCare Sleeping Rough. This annual event aims to increase awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness, poverty, and domestic and family violence.
“Our Sleeping Rough fundraiser was very special this year and a huge success largely due to the generosity and hospitality from the team at Club Rivers” said Georges River LifeCare Operations Manager, Karen Power.
“We had a wonderful night in the club’s new Alfresco area, The Canopy with stunning ambience and great food. The event was hosted by award winning writer Lisa Shanahan and amongst the many highlights was a performance from ARIA nominated and The Voice winner, Bella Taylor Smith. The night was topped off by Club Rivers CEO, Paul Millar announcing a $50,000 grant to go to supporting Georges River Life Care’s Case management service, to support the most vulnerable in our local community.”
“More than 70 people slept rough in Club Rivers car park. Over $55,000 was raised that will go towards the services Georges River Life Care provides to support victims of family violence in our local community.A huge thanks to the team at Club Rivers for supporting this event year after year,” said Karen.
Club Rivers CEO Paul Millar said, “Club Rivers was honoured to be a Major Sponsor of the Georges River LifeCare Sleeping Rough, along with myself and staff from Club Rivers getting to experience a night of sleeping rough for a great cause. I am grateful to have joined many others and help raise awareness for such a cause that is desperately needed”.
“We like to be closely involved with our partners and support their core purpose and taking part in this year’s Sleepout has been a fantastic experience. We look forward to continuing this important work with Georges River Life Care.”

Coming very soon! New Kids Area
Two new indoor play areas for kids will be unveiled very soon to compliment the family-friendly vibe at Club Rivers. The brand-new spaces will comprise two age-specific playscape areas located adjacent to the dining space and will offer fun and engaging areas for kids to play.
The junior area for kids of younger ages will feature a toddler slide, tunnels andother acvies. In the main area for the slightly older kids, crawl tunnels, mulple slides, climbing equipment along with many other acvies specifically selected to facilitate sensory play, cognive skills and fine motor development will be featured.
Paul Millar CEO of Club Rivers said: ”We are thrilled, once again to see further investment to make Club Rivers a real desnaon for families by adding these play areas. An offering that we have recently lacked. “It will offer new areas for kids to have fun while adults can relax and enjoy their dining experience”.

Expressions of interest
Club Rivers is calling for expressions of interest from young men and women between 17 – 24 years of age to participate in the 2024 Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge. The program takes young community leaders on a 10 day trek across the 155km Kokoda Trail in Papua New Guinea. Overseen by the RSL & Services Clubs Association, KYLC is aimed at young people at school with natural leadership skills or disadvantaged or unemployed young people in the community who are having difficulty in finding their way in society.
The objectives of the program are to:
• Create an awareness of the campaigns in Papua New Guinea during WW11;
• Foster an understanding of the cultural diversity and environment of our nearest neighbour,Papua New Guinea;
• Provide an opportunity to trek the Kokoda Trail to experience the conditions under which our Diggers fought and died for our freedom in 1942;
• Prepare participants for future leadership roles within our Australian community.
• Encourage a commitment to community service;
• Develop adventure-based skills;
• Enhance the personal development of participants;
Club Rivers will sponsor one young local to participate in the 2024 trek and will cover the cost of their airfare, accommodation and food expenses. Applicants must be aged 17- 24 years of age, they must be physically fit and be available to complete the trek towards the end of September early October 2024.
Nominations for the KYLC scholarship will open early 2024. Further details will be available at our Remembrance Day Commemoration Service Saturday 11 November 2023.

A huge thank you to our CRCommuniTEAM, our CR Members and members of our local community, without your help we would not have been able to pack 300 Supertee medical garments . These garments are not just medical but also magical as they li the spirits of kids that are sick in hospital. CR will have the privilege of delivering these Supertees to the St George Hospital paediatric dept. Again thank you to all involved. Know that the few hours you sacrificed are going to a very worthy cause.
Our CR crew turned up in droves today to help out at Lugarno Progress Associaon - LPA Planet Ark Tree Planng Day. We all thoroughly enjoyed doing our bit for the environment on such a beauful day.
Together with SGCH we have started a Hot Breakfast Club at Riverwood Public School every Tuesday morning. We have cooked eggs, sunny side up which brightened everyone’s day. Pancakes, that went like hotcakes. Fancy French toast and spiraled fruit that put a spring in everyone’s step. We are so happy to see all the smiley faces and how excited the children are about our Hot Breakfast Club.
