ichelle was 20 years old when she landed a role on Coronation Street. At the time, she was working on a make-up counter in Selfridges, while living at home with her parents in Manchester. After leaving school she felt “lost about what I wanted to do” but had always enjoyed drama. So, while her friends went off to university, she decided to sign up for weekly lessons at the Manchester School of Acting and gave it a go for a year. “I thought, ‘at least I can look back and say I tried,’” she said. Thankfully her plan worked. Coronation Street was the second audition she ever attended and a few weeks later, she was on her way to meet the show’s producers.

While on separate holidays in Dubai, Wright and Keegan attended the same New Year’s party. In 2013, they made their romance public with a red-carpet debut at the Inside Soap Awards, where they posed for photos together. Nine months later, the couple headed back to Dubai, where a besotted Mark popped the question, and of course, Michelle said yes. The couple tied the knot in 2015 in a lavish ceremony surrounded by their famous family and friends.

“They put six heavy scripts down in front of me,” she says. “It was a thud on the table and the next thing I heard was, ‘Congratulations, you’ve got the role of Tina.’ It hit me like a ton of bricks. Keegan was incredibly nervous. “I was a huge Corrie fan, as was my whole family, so it was a big deal.”

‘Tina McIntyre,’ the character played by Keegan, was one of the central characters in the series. Tina’s complex storylines and pivotal scenes allowed her to show off her acting chops and earned her a string of awards including Best Newcomer in 2008. “It was so quick. I couldn’t get my head round it. I had to leave my job at Selfridges, learn all these lines. Walking onto the cobbles for the first time was so overwhelming. It was my first official job. I didn’t even know which chair to sit in when we went into the green room!” From just a quick Instagram scroll, it is clear that Michelle Keegan is a style icon to many of her followers and it comes as no surprise that online clothing brand, Very, collaborate with her regularly on clothing edits. The latest collection for spring/ summer 2022 dropped earlier this year, with bold prints and pops of colour – it is giving us all the summer vibes! “The collection is really bright and vibrant. My Very edits are always really personal; it’s what I like to wear, so I’ve always got something to wear out with the girls!” The capsule collection features a range of styles from floaty floral print dresses to tailored pieces - including a must-have green print two piece, which can be worn as separates or together for a co-ordinated look. “I’m a fan of bold colours. In lockdown and through winter everything felt quite muted, but now the sun’s out and we can go out and wear bright colours, that’s really fun. It puts me in a better mood.” Michelle recently shared a series of pictures showcasing her new Very range on her Instagram page, much to the delight of her millions of followers. Fans were certainly wowed by the

Whilst busy with many developments including the renovation of the couples £3.5m dream mansion in Essex, the brunette beauty has also revealed her latest on-screen project based down under! Michelle will be starring in the BBC six-part drama, Ten Pound Poms. Worlds apart from Michelle’s glamourous Essex lifestyle, she’s swapped her fancy frocks and gym wear for a stripped back conservative style. Set in Australia, the show follows a group of disenfranchised Brits who leave behind 1950’s Britain to embark on a life altering adventure across the other side of the world. For only £10, they have been promised a better house, better job prospects and a better quality of life by the sea in sun-soaked Australia. But life down under isn’t exactly the idyllic dream the new arrivals have been promised. Struggling with their new identity as immigrants, the show follows their triumphs and pitfalls as they adapt to a new life in a new country, far from Britain and familiarity. Whilst filming Ten Pound Poms, Michelle has been exploring the land of Oz and took to Instagram to post a series of pictures set to a soundtrack of her adventures, featuring waterfalls, trains, boomerangs and acres of lush green scenery. Top Summer Scent I don’t actually tell anyone this, it’s an absolute top secret! But… Bal D’Afrique Byredo is just a beautiful summer scent and Tom Ford Soleil Blanc which is summer memories for me. I like to change every summer because scents really resonate with me and if I don’t like where I was at the time or I have a bad memory to a smell like an ex-boyfriend, I like to change them!

PACKING HACKS
These genius hacks for packing will save you time and makes choosing an outfit a total breeze! Yes my mum does pack my suitcase for me and yes I am 28 years old. There’s something about the way mums pack that just make sense, and there is no chance of me “watching and learning” because I simply don’t have the time. I’m too busy digging in my wardrobe, trying to find that old skirt I wore on holiday 3 years ago that Zara doesn’t sell any more, but it just fits right. Or, probably still putting outfits together… and don’t forget the “back-up” outfits! They’re the hardest! So, imagine my joy when I discovered how influencers (yes those people who look immaculate and can throw anything on and still look unbelievable) pack; by colour instead of by outfit! I know. It’s been that simple all along. Here’s how you, too, can break free from the stress of packing.

3 SCAN YOUR WARDROBE
Go through and grab clothes in those shades, making sure you have a mix of tops and bottoms. (In other words, don’t just throw every green thing you own into your bag or you’ll risk being trouser-less in Spain.)

DO A BRUTAL EDIT
Seeing as all your pieces will go together (that’s the magic of this trick!), you can now cut way back. The formula is packing the same number of tops or dresses as days you’ll be away, plus half that number of bottoms and a jumper or two (depending on the destination).
4 FILL ANY HOLES WITH SOME NEUTRALS No pastel skirt? Swap in cream. Or soften what could be getting really matchy-matchy with white, black or denim layers and basics.
5 PICK A PALETTE
Start with a patterned piece you love and go from there. Blue and green florals on a pink background? Bam, you’re a palette-picking pro.

Everyone knows I love to experiment with my eyeshadow and match it with my outfits. It’s colourful and perfect for summer time. It’s also very versatile so can be used all year round.
From makeup to hair, we are so excited to hear about your collaboration with Easilocks! Can you tell us a bit about the process? I have been speaking to easy Easilocks for the last few months and we worked hard really trying to solidify which hair pieces to come out with. They are such an amazing brand and I’m so keen to be a part of the team in launching the textured collection.
How did launching your own hair collaboration differentiate from the process of launching the Makeup Revolution edit? I’ve been very hands-on. I love switching my hair up so one of the most important things for me was to try every single

I really enjoyed taking part in celebrity karaoke club. I love karaoke and music and singing so this was right up my street.
How was it to work with such a great group of celebrities? It was a lot of fun! everyone was lush and fully of energy. We let our hair down, took advantage of the bar and brought the good vibes.
What was your favourite moment whilst filming?
Aside from winning and making myself proud, I loved doing the duets. Performing baby with Chrishell and my favourite karaoke song in the whole wide world ‘I think we’re alone now’ with Laura was pretty iconic. No one took themselves too seriously and everyone else got involved.
From TV to hair and makeup, what more can we expect to see from you this year?
More TV appearances, more hair and makeup related content. Although it may seem like it I promise I haven’t neglected the fashion side of my passions so a lot more of that will be coming this year too.

EACH TREATMENT CONSISTS OF 5 STAGES. 1. Brushing. Scrubbing with an Arosha

5. Final step. After unwrapping you we massage

“Have you ever seen a dick pic before?” “Erm, yes Iris, I have.” I look at her puzzled. “Did you like it?” She asks. Blushing, I respond. “Yes, sure, the ones I asked for, but not the ones I didn’t ask for.” “Iris… why are you asking?” My heads tilted to one side trying to work out why this 74-year-old woman is asking me about pictures of flaccid dicks. “Because I got one the other day and deleted it.” Why is this woman, who looks like my granny, receiving dick pics from randoms? I’ll tell you how. She’s only gone on a dating site to meet a companion. What does this teach us? The dating scene doesn’t get any easier as we get older… by the sounds of it, it’s worse. Not just flaccid penises, they’re shrivelled flaccid penises which have, in no doubt, been out of action for some time. I know this probably isn’t the demographic for a story like this however; call this an injection of humour and to remind us all that at whatever stage of life we are at, we are all going through the same experiences. A dirty git will always be a dirty git, a flasher will always be a flasher and we will always want companionship. I was intrigued about dating in your seventies and how to navigate the dating scene at that time in our lives, because, who knows when I’ll have to sign into my OAP Tinder or Plenty of Fish app again.

So, what’s Iris’ story? Iris, like most women her age had unfortunately lost her husband 4 years prior. Iris was with William for 55 years and he was the only man she’d ever known. They did life together, and for a while, it felt like there was no life without William. She spent four years grieving the only man she’d ever loved, the father to her children, her best friend, and her soulmate. They’d met in Columbia Flower Market all those years ago and they were inseparable for a lifetime. Loneliness in old age is a pandemic. According to Marmaladetrust.org, older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation which can both have a serious impact on both physical and mental health; even though 40% of younger people feel lonely more of the time versus only 27% of the over 75’s. 500,000 older people go at least five or six days a week without seeing or speaking to anyone at all. I don’t mean to make you sad but that is the harsh reality. To be honest, I don’t blame the elderly for getting on a dating app to find companionship if that is the harsh reality of what they’re dealing with; we do the same! We look for companionship, sometimes in all the wrong places, and most of us will find our person, but not before a lot of failed talking stages, situation-ships, terrible dates, onenight stands… or viewing a few unsolicited dick pics… Which, for the record, is not ok and is now becoming a criminal offence known as “cyber-flashing.”
4. Tell me about your experiences with the “weirdos”. [She chuckles] “There’s a lot of them aren’t there? Do you have weird ones too?” “Yes, I did when I was online dating, I wouldn’t call them weird, I’d say perverted!” She was just being polite, she actually called them “f-ing ‘orrible twats”.
I decided to ask Iris a few questions on her experiences of online dating so we can draw some comparisons.
1. Iris, what made you set up an online dating profile and who helped you with it? “My kids were worried about me. I was completely isolated during the pandemic, and it really affected my mental health. I just felt so low all the time. My kids live so far away, they couldn’t come and see me. Luckily, they showed me how to FaceTime before COVID so I could do that, but it just wasn’t the same. I really missed Willy (short for William you dirty minded bints!) and I realised I should make the effort to find some companionship closer to home. I called my daughter and she helped me to put my profile together. I used Plenty of Fish to begin with, but with all the weird things I was sent, I decided to use Match.com instead… they’re less disgusting on that!”
2. How did you find using the dating sites? “Generally, I like the idea of them. You can speak to five to six different people a day! (Iris, you tease!) It’s lovely. It can be a bit time consuming but what with the pandemic happening, I’d just had about enough of daytime TV so it was a nice way to pass time! I think as long as you find the right dating sites without all the strange people on there, it could be nice. I had some interesting conversations with people and some of us are still friends now but only on the computer, I wouldn’t want to meet them in real life.” Ahh, the extended talking stage, smooth Iris, very smooth.
3. What were you specifically looking for when you made your profile? “Just companionship. Someone to go on walks with. I have a dog called Alfie so I walk regularly but I still barely speak to anyone. I have a nice garden but no one to really share it with. I just wanted to make a new friend. I didn’t ever think I would meet anyone to replace Willy, but I was willing to meet someone to just feel a closeness again. It’s very difficult to deal with being close to someone all those years to not having anyone at all.”
“It’s just all a little strange to be honest. One sent me a picture of his bits so I blocked him straight away. Other times, you think you’re having a good conversation by text and you decide to do a video call; they’re really polite until then, very respectful and tell you that they want the same things as you and you’re happy you found someone you have a connection with. All of a sudden, you get them on a video call and they just become very strange. One answered the video call with his penis in front of the camera. It took me about 20 seconds to work out what it was. It was out of focus. Well, I got flustered and just ended the call, I didn’t speak to that one again. Odd man. The third time it happened, at least he had the decency to say hello first, ask about my day then compliment me. He then asked me if I was willing to have sex with him on a no strings attached basis. I didn’t really know what to say. The next thing I know, he’s undoing his belt buckle about to get the thing out on the camera again. I learned the first time and ended the call before I saw it. What a depraved man. What’s worse, he lived in a community home, who else was there?!”
5. Can you tell us of a nice experience you had with someone you met? “Yes of course, I did meet a lovely man and we still speak now, we are “online friends.” We have similar interests and we enjoy the same TV shows so we talk about them often. That’s as far as it goes though as he’s in a wheelchair so he can’t go for walks with me or visit me often.”
6. Iris, are you still looking for a physical companion? “Yes, I am used to the apps now, so hopefully one day I can meet one of them for a coffee and see how it goes.” Well, there you have it, no matter what age you are, deep down all we are looking for is that physical companionship with someone. To pass the time with, to live life with. There are still weird (now criminal) people out there on dating sites, but you’ve just got to see the woods through the trees. There is hope for us all… but hopefully a lot less unsolicited naked photos! Good luck sisters, mothers, aunties, grannies and great grannies! You can do it!

e have finally had an uninterrupted school year where children were able to experience the mostly ‘normal’ routine which they had previously missed.
Despite the gaps in learning, most children made good progress and settled well into their classrooms. We as teachers were able to resume our conventional ‘events of the year’ such as school trips, joint assemblies, sports days, Christmas parties and so on. I think the saying goes ‘you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone’ and so the appreciation we have felt for the traditional school year has been immense. Therefore it is time to celebrate the success of the year and enjoy the summer like never before! Although some families may be venturing abroad, others may appreciate or need some suggestions about what to do and how to keep the fun going.

Ingredients 200g digestive biscuits • 75g unsalted butter, melted • 2 x 340g tubs Philadelphia Original • 300ml soured cream • 200g Billington’s Golden Caster Natural Unrefined Cane Sugar • 2 tsp Nielsen-Massey Vanilla Extract • ½ lemon, juice • 3 large British Blacktail Free Range Eggs, lightly beaten • 4 large passion fruits

Method Preheat the oven to 150oC, gas mark 2, and line the base of a 20cm loose-bottomed cake tin with baking parchment. Put the biscuits in a large bowl and use the end of a rolling pin to crush them. Add the butter and mix, then tip into the base of the tin. Press down evenly and firmly using the back of a spoon. Bake for 25 minutes, then set aside to cool. Use a balloon whisk to beat together the soft cheese, 150ml soured cream, the sugar, vanilla and lemon juice until smooth. Beat in the eggs a little at a time until combined, then tip into the cake tin. Put an ovenproof dish half-filled with water on the bottom shelf of the oven (the steam will help to prevent the cheesecake from cracking),
then put the cheesecake on the middle shelf and bake for 1 hour 10 minutes until still wobbly but set. Turn off the oven and leave the door ajar, allowing the cheesecake to cool inside the oven for 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and spread the remaining 150ml soured cream over the top. Once completely cool, chill for at least 4 hours or ideally overnight. To serve, scoop the passion fruit pulp on top of the cheesecake.

Ingredients 1 small clove garlic, crushed • 1 tbsp olive oil • 150g sourdough bread, crusts removed and torn into medium croutons • 2 tbsp fat-free Greek yogurt • 2 tsp mayonnaise • 10g finely grated Parmigiano Reggiano, plus extra shavings to serve • ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce • ½ lemon, juice • 1 anchovy, finely chopped • 2 Little Gem lettuces, leaves separated • 150g pack Waitrose Duchy Organic Cooked King Prawns • 1 avocado, sliced

Method Preheat the oven to 180oC, gas mark 4. Mix the garlic and oil in a mixing bowl, add the croutons and toss in the oil mixture. Season and spread over a foillined baking tray. Roast for 15 minutes, stirring halfway. Meanwhile, for the dressing, mix the yogurt, mayonnaise, Parmigiano Reggiano, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and anchovy with 2-3 tsp water until you have a smooth dressing. Season with black pepper. Arrange the lettuce leaves, prawns, avocado and croutons on plates. Spoon over the dressing and scatter with extra cheese shavings.
To make this dish vegetarian, omit the anchovy and Worcestershire sauce from the dressing, and swap the prawns for soft-boiled eggs and the Parmigiano Reggiano for a veggie hard cheese.

Ingredients 2 x 305g packs Southern Fried Breaded Chicken Mini Fillets • 4 burger buns, split open • 2 tbsp Greek strained yogurt • 2 limes, juice • ½ large pointed spring cabbage, shredded (about 175g prepared weight) • 2 tbsp clear honey • ½ tsp hot smoked paprika • 150g No.1 Speciality Raspberries • Sliced gherkins or pickled cucumbers, to serve

Method Preheat the oven to 200oC, gas mark 6. Cook the chicken according to pack instructions. Add the burger buns to the oven for the last 2 minutes of cooking. Meanwhile, mix the yogurt and juice of 1 lime in a mixing bowl and toss through the cabbage and a pinch of salt; set aside. In a separate bowl, mix the honey, paprika and juice of the remaining lime. Add the raspberries and gently crush with the back of a fork. Stir together and set aside.
When the chicken and buns are cooked, arrange the bottom halves of the buns on a board. Spoon over most of the raspberry-honey sauce, then scatter over some of the sliced gherkins or pickled cucumbers. Arrange the chicken on top, then pile on the cabbage. Top with the burger lids and serve immediately with any remaining raspberry-honey sauce on the side.
FALAFEL & SPINACH BURGERS with pickled carrot Preparation time: 20 minutes Cooking time: 10 minutes Serves: 6
Ingredients 235g pack ready washed spinach • 2 x 150g packs Al’Fez Lebanese Style Falafel mix • 3 tbsp cider vinegar • 3 tsp maple syrup • 3 tbsp sunflower oil • 6 vegan burger buns, halved • 3 carrots, peeled • 135g dairy-free yogurt alternative • 1 clove garlic, finely grated • ¾ tsp sumac
Cook’s tip Just give the carrot strips a quick turn in the vinegar mixture, otherwise they’ll lose their crispness.
Method Preheat the oven to 180oC, gas mark 4; line a baking tray with foil. Finely shred ½ the spinach and put in a mixing bowl with the falafel mix. Add 340ml water and mix until combined. Set aside for 5 minutes. Meanwhile, mix the vinegar, maple syrup and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Heat the oil in a large frying pan (or in 2 medium pans) over a medium heat. Shape the falafel mixture into 6 patties and fry for 2 minutes on each side; transfer to the lined baking tray and put in the oven for 5 minutes to cook through. Add the burger buns to the oven for the final minute. Meanwhile, use a vegetable peeler to pare long strips from the carrots. Put in the bowl with the vinegar mixture and toss quickly to coat, then lift out and set aside. Stir the yogurt alternative, garlic and sumac into the remaining vinegar mixture; spread over the base of the buns and arrange a handful of spinach leaves and the falafel burgers on top. Finish with the carrot strips and bun lids. And to drink…
