SIXTH FORM PROSPECTUS

EVERY STUDENT A LEADER

PRINCIPALS’ WELCOME We are delighted to welcome you to Harris Science Academy East London’s (HSAEL) Sixth Form prospectus. We hope these pages give you a flavour of what you can expect if you join us. We are a small, co-educational academy, with big ambitions for our students. Our mission is for every student to be a leader in their chosen field, with the opportunity to lead in science. Our world needs leaders who have lived normal lives with the agency to make positive change. We will provide every student with the knowledge, skills and character to change the world. We offer human-scale education, where students are known as individuals. Our Sixth Form is deliberately small, so we get to know each of our students well and give every student bespoke support to fulfil their hopes and dreams. Nobody at HSAEL is a number on a spreadsheet. The HSAEL Baccalaureate is academic in nature and blends the best of A Levels with the breadth and well-rounded experiences that you might find in an International Baccalaureate (IB) programme.

We are proud of the range of science options available to students, as well as our arts programmes. Our character education programme will give you the soft skills to make positive change in a competitive world. Our links with industry give you opportunities for public speaking, interview skill development and careers advice that will prepare you well for your next step. Every member of the HSAEL Sixth Form has several leadership opportunities, with students taking part in sports leadership qualifications, providing in-class support to younger students and working in the community. D MACPHERSON L KATTENHORN Principal Executive Principal

This is an Academy on an exciting journey. We hope you are inspired to continue your post 16 education with us.

UNIFIED LEADERSHIP BEHIND A VALUES LED MISSION Our ethos is more than just a slogan on the website. We are serious about our students becoming the leaders of the future and changemakers within the community.

2

Our leaders will not be cut-throat or ruthless; rather they will act with GRACE. Graceful leadership is at the heart of everything we do.

Growth

We are confident that we can be better. We know that feedback is essential for improvement. We never give up, especially when it is difficult.

Responsibility

We are self disciplined, we own our decisions and we acknowledge their impact on others. If we do something wrong, we put it right.

Ambition

We aim to be the best versions of ourselves at all times. We believe in the potential to achieve the highest grades and access the best careers/universities.

Compassion

We are always kind to others, regardless of who they are. We regularly show our appreciation.

Excellence

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence is not, therefore, an act, but a habit. We are proactive, and curious to know and do more.

All students have twelve days off-timetable each year where we focus on character development, from encounters with employers, training in public speaking to residential study trips. Our ‘Post 18 week’ in Year 13 gives students time and space to explore the options available to them at the end of their time at HSAEL.
