Absence for school-based assessment Units 1-4 In the event of absence for an Assessment Task (SAC/Assessment Task) the following procedure must be followed: • The subject teacher must email the student’s parents alerting them to the student’s absence from an Assessment Task/SAC reminding them that a medical certificate is required. • • •

The relevant Year Level Team Leader will be informed via email. The student on returning to school must collect the relevant form from the Year 11 and Year 10 Level Team Leaders for Units 1 - 2 and the VCE Leader for Units 3 - 4. The form with the relevant documentation must be returned to the VCE Leader the next day. The relevant documentation includes: ➢ Medical certificate; ➢ Professional documentation; ➢ Confidential teacher/Year Level Team Leader’s report; ➢ Outside professional reports/letter. The VCE Leader will inform the subject teacher of the outcome. An alternative time will be set by the VCE Leader for the completion of the missed/part of Assessment Task. Unapproved absence will result in an ‘zero’ for their SAC for Unit 3 - 4 and a ‘zero’ for a Unit 1 - 2 Assessment Task. Absence for an oral Assessment Task requires the same documentation for approval as a written task.

Appeal against unapproved absence A student may appeal to an internal appeals body consisting of the Principal or the Principal’s delegate, an impartial staff member currently, teaching VCE and a staff representative of the student’s choice and/or a Student Services staff representative. A student has seven days in which to lodge a complaint.

Extension Policy Extension of time for an individual student to complete a task will be granted only in special circumstances. •

Eligibility for an extension of time A student may be eligible for an extension if the need results from: ➢ illness; ➢ personal environment; ➢ physical disability; ➢ significant hardship.

Procedure for an application for an extension of time: ➢ Students must collect the appropriate form from their Year Level Team Leader and negotiate with their subject teacher the conditions of the extension. ➢ The maximum extension period will be ONE week. ➢ Students must hand the completed form to the VCE Leader for approval. ➢ The VCE Leader will inform the student of the outcome of the application.
