MANY people either look forward to the festive period and begin their countdown to Christmas in October, while others are left running for the hills to avoid the ‘silliness’ that comes with the season.

As we get ready to wind down and take a breather, we decided to reflect on some of the wonderful reasons to celebrate the year that was.

Yes, we can talk about some of the lowlights as well (no pun on the word ‘lights’), but that would not be very festive at all.

The team at the Fever has had a wonderful year and has shared some truly remarkable memories with you.

We’ve had an action-packed year from meeting wonderful individuals who are slowly changing their communities one step at a time to covering campaigns that shows a proactive community who are willing to fight for their beloved home towns.

ACEBOOK group Voices of Pietermaritzburg (Vop) has embarked on a five-week journey to feed pupils from less fortunate schools around Pietermaritzburg, starting with Haythorne Secondary School last week.

Porridge donated by Truda, and sandwiches with apples were donated to the children, ensuring that the pupils will have breakfast through the course of their exams and guaranteeing that they will not sit down to write their exams on an empty stomach.

“We were at Haythorne Secondary bright and early. The children were so surprised and chuffed that the apples and sandwiches were for them and free,” said Deidre DeWee.

Director of Vop, Michelle Stevens, thanked Deidre and Linda DeWee, who were instrumental in making the food and supplying it to the school as well as the donors.

“A special thank you to Deidre’s children who helped her make the sandwiches as well as our donors who we could not do what we do without each and every one of them,” said Stevens.

Maria Turnbull, another member of Vop, said a young man in matric was referred to Vop as he had not eaten anything in two days and that is when they decided to start this initiative.

“After hearing this we decided to go ahead and feed the pupils from various schools,” said Turnbull.

Vop is a Facebook group that helps people with groceries and clothing as well as school uniforms and stationery.

NHLANHLENI Primary School were first prize winners at this year’s Museum Passport Competition awards, held at the KZN Museum recently, walking away with R20 000 for their school.

The Museum Passport Competition is held as an annual collaborative marketing effort put together by the Msunduzi Museum, the KwaZuluNatal Museum, and the Old Prison Museum.

Muzi Thusi Primary School won second prize while Shine Primary School claimed third prize with the schools walking away R15 000 and R10 000 respectively.

Georgetown High and Muzi Thusi Primary School won a bonus prize of R2 500 each for bringing in the most pupils to attend the competition.

“The competition this year was designed to align the museum’s offering with the Caps system to benefit learning programmes at the schools. The competition was also extended into the third term to allow schools more time to visit the museum,” said Viranna Frank, who is in charge of Public Relations and Marketing at the museum.

Frank said the museums were very pleased with the response to the competition and look forward to the tenth anniversary of the competition to be held in 2019.

Make a child’s day this festive season LOCAL community activist Jerry Barnes is calling on all residents from within and out of Eastwood, Panorama and Cinderella Park (Ward 34) to come together and join hands in an effort to bring and spread happiness to the children during the upcoming festive season as. Just a stones throw away from these areas, said Barnes, are a lot of disadvantaged and underprivileged communities that are in dire need of help.

“Near Eastwood and Cinderella Park is a poor area called Malivana, with people staying in shacks and living in conditions that are heart-breaking and the same applies to those in Panorama as well.

“I am appealing to the public not to forget the poor children from these communities during this festive season and to help put a smile on their faces,” pleaded Barnes.

As in previous years, Barnes plans on hosting a Christmas lunch for the children from these communities and is appealing to Pietermaritzburg residents to be kind and donate something for the children to eat during their Christmas lunch.

“I am asking our brothers and sisters, not only from this area but all around Pietermaritzburg, to donate groceries, toys, sweets, biscuits, and soft drinks so that we can try and give these children a glimpse of happiness during the festive season,” urged Barnes.

Outrage over sewage overflow

ED up with the lack of response from the municipality, and tired of waiting for the problem to be sorted out, Nonsuch Road resident Darryl Naidoo contacted the Maritzburg Fever to express his outrage over a continuous sewage spill at the end of his road.

Located at the end of Townbush Road, Nonsuch Road residents have had to endure terrible smells emanating from the sewage spill since March of this year.

“In March and April this year, I communicated with a woman known to me by the name of Precious at the municipality and she assured me that she knew exactly where we were located and that she would send someone to investigate the matter,” said Naidoo.

Naidoo confirmed that he even had a reference number however, to date, nothing has been done.

Naidoo said that, since reporting the issue, he has been going back and forth with the municipality to no avail, highlighting that he has not received any feedback for months on end.

“The smell is overpowering and unpleasant but, apart from that, it presents a huge health risk to us here on the road,” stated Naidoo, who is the team leader at African Enterprise, a conference and getaway venue locat-

Naidoo’s last email was sent to the municipality on October 10, informing them that he was going to the press but he said that even that did not

ON Wednesday last week, the Central Energy Fund (CEF) announced that petrol will drop by 3c per litre in the next month.

In released data, the CEF showed that the possible drop is attributed to a strengthening rand and a decrease in brent crude oil prices.

In the past few months, the South African petrol price has increased to over R16 a litre, which has been a breaking point for many motorists.

Unlike petrol users, diesel users are set to face another hike — an estimated 35c — in November.

Motorists shared their views on the proposed petrol price decrease.

Stephanie White said the petrol hike has affected her a lot as she’s a single mother of three, and having to drive her children to school everyday has become very costly.

“I fill a full tank every three days because my children don’t go to the same school and that

sums up to R1 000 a week, which means I use R4 000 a month for petrol,” explained White.

She said the decrease may seem like nothing to some people, but to her it will make a huge difference.

Quinton Baker couldn’t agree more with White, saying: “It will really help as the holidays are coming up and things are very expensive. At least, with the slight decrease, I will stress a little bit less before it increases again.”

Meagan Mhlongo was less pleased with the announcement, saying the drop is just a stunt to ease motorists into further increases.

“This is just how they are trapping us; they want us to think that they are caring for us when in the following month they will increase the petrol price by an even more ridiculous amount,” said the unimpressed Mhlongo.

IJACKING is one of the crimes that is showing an increase all over South Africa, according to the SAPS. A hijacker is focused on doing a job, namely taking the vehicle, and one should not get in the way of that.

Do not resist, argue or fight as this can result in injury or even death.

There are two types of hijackers — professional and amateurs — of which the latter is the most dangerous as they will not hesitate to use violence in order to get what they want.

“N

EVER doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has,” these were the sentiments expressed by a small group of activists from Ban Animal Trading (Bat) as they peacefully protested the use of fireworks on Chota Motala Road over the weekend.

Obtaining a permit from the Mountain Rise Police Station, the activists staged the first ever #BanTheBang peaceful protest on Saturday, highlighting their issues against fireworks.

“Fireworks cause extensive damage to the air in a short amount of time leaving metal particles, dangerous toxins and smoke in the air for hours. They are also terrifying for domestic animals as they can hear about seven times better than humans,” said Bat activist, Rekash Sinanin.

The protestors urged those engaging in Diwali celebrations through firework to think of all the effects they have on the environment and animals before proceeding.

“Please be kind to mother Earth, our environment, animals and humans, and use one of the many silent alternatives to fireworks for your celebrations,” urged Sinanin.

He added that they will be protesting the use of fireworks again this Saturday, November 3, and then will focus their attention on the use of fireworks on New Year’s Day.

HERE is growing concern about the high number of disabled children that are not part of the South African education sys-

tem.

Children with disabilities face many hurdles when trying to access the schooling system in SA, this according to recent studies conducted

by Autism South Africa.

The estimated figure of children with disabilities that are currently not part of the system is close to 500 000.

Speaking of some of the challenges they face, Director of Autism South Africa Sandy Usswald said: “These include stigma in our communities, physical barriers such as no wheelchair access, or toilets at schools, and attitudinal barriers.

“There is a misperception that children with disabilities are more difficult to teach or include

in the classroom, or that they will bring down the learning environment for other children, when in fact studies have proven that the learning experience actually improves in an inclusive classroom, both for the children with and without disabilities.”

Some of the other barriers include knowledge and skills barriers among the teachers that are ill-equipped in appropriate teaching methodologies to facilitate a meaningful learning environment for all, and practice barriers such as children with disabilities who are unable to use the toilet independently and who are excluded from the mainstream and even special school system.

Usswald said: “These are just a few of the challenges that our children face, which are easily overcome with a change in attitude and an inclusive education mindset.

“We are currently on a country-wide campaign to collect the names and details of these children so that we can approach the Depart-

ment of Education to demand that these children are placed into beneficial learning environments to suit their needs.

“Unfortunately, teacher training does not cover inclusive education or strategies to provide access to the curriculum for children with disabilities.

“We strongly encourage teachers to reach out to relevant and accredited training organisations who work within the disability sector to support them to increase their knowledge and skills and provide on-site classroom support for them.

“I have found that teachers with passion and a positive attitude towards children with disabilities really make the difference.

“Resources come second to a passion and belief that our children are able to succeed with the support that they as individuals require.”

Usswald added that they have been inundated with complaints from parents of children with disabilities who are currently out of

school. These parents reported on difficulties they faced when trying to enrol their children into mainstream or special needs schools.

“We are now working on collecting information to present to the national Department of Education in order to demand that they place children with disabilities into a school suited to their needs.

“In order to do this, we need parents to fill out a form telling us about their children and how long the child has been out of school. We can provide parents with the form if they email us,” she said.

Autism SA said the intention is to get the Department of Education to take their demands seriously when they show the department how many children with disabilities are out of school.

LAW CORNER The voetstoets clause and hidden defects in property FROM a leaky roof to a well-hidden crack, there are a number of issues that you can run into after purchasing a preowned home. You may feel cheated after defects in your “new” property start coming to light. Who is going to cover the expenses for the necessary repairs?

One of the most common clauses found in sale agreements is the voetstoets clause. It’s used to sell property “as is”, ensuring that the seller is not held liable for defects of which the seller was genuinely unaware. It does this by excluding the seller’s liability for latent defects in the property at the time of sale.

To understand the voetstoets clause, you must understand the difference between patent and latent defects.

Patent defects are defects which a purchaser should become aware of after inspecting a property. These defects are easily visible. In our law, a seller is not liable for these “obvious” defects, even without including a voetstoets clause in the sale agreement. An example of a patent defect would be a broken window or a cracked floor tile.

Latent defects are hidden defects which would not be visible to a reasonable person, even after conducting an inspection of the property. They may be concealed and only become evident well after the sale is concluded. Without a voetstoets clause, the seller would be liable for these “hidden” defects.

Latent defects need not be physical.

Our courts have confirmed that the lack of approved building plans for alterations to a property constitutes a la-

tent defect. Depending on the circumstances, if the voetstoets clause applies, the purchaser/new owner may find themselves liable to cover the expense of having plans drawn and approved, with no recourse against the seller.

Fortunately, sellers have a duty to reveal latent defects that they are aware of. The voetstoets clause doesn’t protect a seller from dishonesty and fraud. However, the purchaser would have to show the court that the seller concealed the defect with the intention to defraud. This can prove difficult in practice.

Since the Consumer Protection Act came into effect in 2011, many people have held the misapprehension that the voetstoets clause is no longer valid.

This is simply not true. While the voetstoets clause cannot be used in a sale by a developer, and other “suppliers” defined by the Act, it is still perfectly valid in the vast majority of private sales.

Needless to say, purchasers should ask more questions before purchasing a property and ensure that they inspect the property carefully, in daylight, to avoid finding fairly obvious defects that they overlooked, for example: on an evening inspection where it was too dark to view the outside of the property and no one noticed that the boundary wall was falling down.

While it is beneficial to have a basic understanding of property law when buying or selling property, it is always a good idea to consult with an expert before concluding a sale agreement.

ORMER Lotus FM presenter Vanessa Govender says she is considering naming her abuser.

Govender, widely hailed for speaking out against the abuse she suffered at the hands of her former lover, was speaking at The Mall @ Scottsville where she presented her memoir Beaten but not Broken.

The book is based on her five-year abusive relationship with a former Lotus FM jock. She was 22 at the time.

Though she opted not to name the abuser in her memoir, Govender said she was now reassessing her decision. “Following articles that have come out in some newspapers, I am seriously considering naming him,” she said. “It is not a decision that I will take lightly, it is something that I will do in consultation with legal experts, my publisher and my family.”

The 41-year-old said writing the book had taken her to a dark place, saying: “I have always known that I wanted to write the story. I never knew that it would be of any worth or value. I never thought anybody would want to publish it. When I started writing, it was to heal.”

Govender recalled an incident where her former lover assaulted and raped her at the

“We had had an argument. I wasn’t taking his calls. I read the bulletin. He walked into the studio and stood behind the presenter who was going on air after I was done with the news bulletin. He was facing me; the presenter’s back was towards him.”

Govender said that from his body language, she could tell that she was in trouble.

“His arms were folded and his jaws clenched. The whole room shifted. The fear, the tension, it was palpable. The presenter was oblivious. I could feel trouble brewing,”

she recalled.

When she finished the bulletin, as she walked out, the former jock walked out first.

“I was behind him. He turned around and he slapped me with such force it pushed me back onto the door and it flung open.”

The presenter asked if everything was okay, but she could not answer. “He answered for me and, just as the door closed, he raised his leg and kicked me in my stomach.” Her book is available at major books stores, nation-wide.

How can I get my child to study? >>Exams can be frightening, so help your child through this stressful time THE long-anticipated year-end exams are upon us and so are the challenges and pressures that, so often, go hand-in-hand with the experience.

Cindy Glass, director and co-founder of Step Up Education Centres, said: “It is crunch time now and Grade 4 to Grade 12 pupils are busy working on the preparation necessary to achieve the best results possible.

But, alas, not all pupils feel motivated or willing to put in the effort that is needed at this time.

Some pupils may, in fact, show little or no interest in studying for exams, leaving parents and teachers feeling worried about what can be done about it.”

Is your child unwilling or unmotivated to study for the exams? Glass gives the following tips to help you and your child through this stressful time.

• Remember that most negative behaviours are rooted in fear.

Have a conversation with your children to try to establish what he or she may be afraid of. Fear can make a child feel completely overwhelmed and it may just seem easier to look the other way when it comes to exam preparation or, worse, give up altogether.

Help your child put his or her fears into perspective — help them to understand that all they can do is their best.

• Break the seemingly overwhelming task into bite-sized manageable pieces. Help or encourage your child to concentrate on working through past exam papers.

Structure study times so that a goal is set to

achieve a certain amount of work in the given time.

This will give your child a wonderful sense of achievement when each task is completed.

• Remind your child that, in life, there are some unpleasant things that need to be done to get where you want to go.

It means that, despite perhaps not enjoying the studying, it needs to be done.

• Explain to your child that the first 10 minutes of any challenging activity is the worst. Once you get past that 10-minute mark, you seem to “roll” more easily.

Just get to it and see how it works.

• Help your children understand that exams are their responsibility.

You are there to encourage and support them, but ultimately, the responsibility of whether to honour themselves by putting in the effort that is needed, is up to them.

• Make sure that your home environment is conducive to effective studying. Keep noise levels down, speak positively, encourage and praise any progress.

• Try to have something to look forward to once the exams have been completed. A movie evening, a day at the beach, or the promise of enjoying a favoured meal. This needs to be a reward for the hard work that was put into the exam process.

Glass said: “Exams can feel overwhelming and fear can cause children to shut down.

All children want to achieve, whether they admit it or not. Don’t give up, the rewards will be worth it.”

End-of-year exams are here and while many pupils are hard at work putting in the necessary study time, not all pupils feel motivated or willing to put in the effort that is needed at this time.

How to make good subject choices THE stress levels that accompany subject selection in Grade 9 are enough to send any parent into a mild obsessive panic.

We know that our children understand how important it is, but do they really?

It is an adult-level decision, after all; the first of many your teen will have to make. And the stakes couldn’t be higher.

Weighty decisions like these tend to be put off until the last minute, so before you get into the heavy practical steps, why not throw these thought-provoking questions at your Grade 8 or Grade 9 to get the ball rolling?

Juan Visser, regional director at Cambridge Assessment International Education, suggests the questions below.

• WHAT LESSON DO YOU MOST LOOK FOR-

WARD TO ATTENDING EVERY DAY? By this stage, your teens should know which subjects they enjoy most. It’ll be your job to help them figure out why because getting them to think about what attracts them to a particular subject will be key to what other subjects they select. “Understanding that pupils enjoy maths because they enjoy problem-solving could guide them to take a business studies subject in addition to maths,” said Visser, highlighting the findings of a University of Wisconsin study which found that enjoyment of a topic is of the utmost importance to mastering it. He advises parents not to push their children into certain subjects which might lead to careers with higher paychecks, but will mean poor performance and lower grades.

This same thinking should be applied at university level as well. “Study from school to university should be a continuum. “This will set them up for an enjoyable and successful university career and beyond,” said Visser.

• WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS? This question is important for matching interest with academic ability, which Visser says may require brutal honesty from both yourself and your teen.

“If pupils enjoy physics, for example, but struggle with the learning material and fall short on marks despite putting a lot of effort into the course, this may not be a good fit for a career in engineering — or

• HOW WILL YOUR SUBJECT CHOICE TRANSLATE INTO YOUR UNIVERSITY PLANS? Once you’ve identified your children’s interests and abilities you can talk to them about their career options, where they’d like to study and the entry requirements for their chosen degree, diploma or certificate.

“This is particularly important if they have a specific career path in mind such as medicine, engineering or law, which have specific subject requirements,” said Visser.

A good place to start their search would be the admissions section on university websites where they’ll find the subjects they need to study at school and the required grades to get into university.

• HOW IS THE WORLD OF WORK CHANGING? Given the fast pace at which technology seems to be advancing these days, Visser recommends that you encourage your teen to do some Internet research and to get in touch with industry professionals.

“The Internet is a readily available source of information on specific careers or what new careers may be looming.

It can also be helpful to speak to someone already working in an industry in which the pupil might like to work in the future. “They can offer insights into the nature of the work, what subjects will help prepare them to enter the workplace and the skills that are required, he said.”

Always be prepared — the big what if?

WE are all aware that we need to take certain precautions to avoid criminal activity; like ensuring our electric gates are locked at all times, our alarm is fully functional and we have all of our emergency numbers on speed dial; but what if you do come into contact with a criminal?

Charnel Hattingh, National Marketing and Communications Manager at Fidelity ADT, says it’s important to understand that these criminals are usually well experienced and seldom operate alone so they almost always have the element of surprise.

They are also under pressure so they can make mistakes if they are challenged.

“We recommend that, as a family, you have thought through and discussed some ‘what if’ scenarios, just in case.

“Different situations require different actions and it is important to know what to do when,” she says.

WHAT IF? I AM AT HOME AND CRIMINALS COME INTO MY HOME She says, if you are at home, the first thing to do is push the panic button then at least you know whatever happens, help is on the way. “It’s very important to try and stay calm. Knowing what to do and having a pre-arranged plan for you and your family can save your life. Trying to think when you are under pressure is very hard to do.

“We advise that you have a couple of plans for different scenarios ready in your head so that you can just DO IT without

having to think twice if it is the right thing to do,” she says.

WHAT IF? THEY HAVE A FIREARM Hattingh says it is never worth being a hero. Goods can always be replaced. She advises that you keep your eyes downcast and don’t offer any resistance or make sudden or jerking movements.

WHAT IF? YOU HAVE CHILDREN AT HOME OR IN YOUR CARE Talk to your children and to domestic staff about different situations. Knowledge is powerful.

It is important to have prepared children without scaring them. Ideally you should have an emergency plan in place for “in case” and domestic staff should be aware of this plan for smaller children.

The plan can be shared with teenagers and older children. Most criminals are generally not kidnappers. They want to get goods if they come into your home environment.

WHAT IF? I NEED TO LEAVE THE PREMISES AND WALK SOMEWHERE Don’t be a creature of habit. Don’t go to the shop the same time every day for example.

Criminals have usually been watching your house for routine activities. If you are walking on the street, make sure you don’t walk with headphones in your ears, listening to music, or carry a lot of cash or valuables. If you are distracted this can make

WHAT IF? YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON ON A CRIME SCENE Push your panic button and call the police and ambulance to make sure you have back up on the way. If possible cordon off the scene. Don’t start cleaning up anything, i.e. broken glass etc. as this will tamper with the crime scene. We recommend you make some physical notes. You can do this on your phone until the SAPS or your private security provider arrives. If you can, limit access to and movement from the area but also remain vigilant as criminals could still be on the scene.

WHAT IF? THERE ARE WITNESSES TO A CRIMINAL ACTIVITY Not everyone wants to be a witness but a potential witness is anyone present, or in the vicinity of the scene. Ask them not to leave without taking their full details and encourage them not to discuss the incident

amongst themselves. This could influence their recall. Also do not share photos on groups as this could negatively influence the outcome of the case.

WHAT IF? YOU THINK SOMEONE IS A BOGUS POLICE OFFICER OR WORKER Always ask for ID. Blue lights and sirens can be bought anywhere. A badge on its own is not valid, it must be an appointment card. One way of checking is to hold it in the air. You should see a hologram effect. This is a very unique look and not easy to copy. You can also phone 10111, give the ID number and they will be able to identify if that person works for them or not and if they should be on duty.

WHAT IF? YOU HAVE BEEN SUBJECTED TO CRIMINAL ACTIVITY AND ARE DEALING WITH THE EFFECTS Generally, when an incident happens women experience terror and men anger. It is very important to understand that it is never your fault. You are the victim and have nothing to be ashamed of.

“We always recommend counselling. In our experience, if you don’t accept counselling it is going to take much longer to recover. You will often share things there that you may never tell your family.

“It is also recommended that you have a family counselling session because, even if everyone was not present, there is often a ripple effect on other family members,” concludes Hattingh. — Supplied.

The importance of eye care “O

UR eyes are like precious jewels and our eyesight is one of our most important assets. Despite this, many South Africans are not as attentive to their eye health as they are about other aspects of their health,” said KwaZulu-Natal ophthalmologist Dr Yavische Reddy­during Eye Care Awareness Month, which was held between September 21 and October 18 this year.

Reddy said that vision loss can have a variety of different causes and affects people of all ages and groups “Vision loss can either occur gradually over time or rapidly, depending on what is causing it,” Reddy said, adding that it is important for a condition such as glaucoma, for example, to be identified and treated before it goes on to cause serious vision loss.

Cataracts, which quite commonly develop in elderly people, can be surgically removed, the lens replaced, and eyesight restored.

Eyeglasses, surgery, medicines and other interventions may be used to assist people with eye and vision problems.

THE IMPORTANCE OF CHECK-UPS “The importance of maintaining good eye health and of having your eyes and eyesight regularly checked by an optometrist or, if necessary, an ophthalmologist, a specialist concerned with the study and treatment of disorders and diseases of the eye, cannot be overemphasised. We recommend that all South Africans have check-ups, preferably at least once every two years, to ensure that their eyes remain in good health,” she said.

Dr Reddy highlights three conditions that commonly negatively impact the eyesight of many South Africans.

GLAUCOMA Glaucoma is a progressive condition that re-

diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular oedema and cataracts, all of which have the potential to cause vision loss and blindness.

“Diabetic retinopathy typically lacks early symptoms and often goes unnoticed until visual loss occurs. This vision loss is sometimes irreversible. Early detection and treatment can reduce the risk of blindness by up to 95%.

“It is therefore critical for people with diabetes to get a comprehensive dilated eye examination at least once a year.”

“Depending on the severity of the disease, treatment may include eye drops, laser treatments and/or certain minor surgical procedures.”

DIABETIC EYE DISEASE Dr Reddy says that people with diabetes are at risk of developing diabetic eye disease, which refers to a group of conditions. These include

AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION Age-related macular degeneration, also known as AMD, typically affects patients over the age of 50 years.

It causes damage to the macula, a small spot near the centre of the retina, which is needed for sharp, central vision and enables us to see objects directly ahead.

“There are two variants of AMD: one progresses slowly due to deposits and atrophy in the retinal tissue, and the other develops rapidly due to bleeding in and under the retinal tissue. AMD does not result in complete blindness, but may greatly hinder everyday tasks such as driving, reading, cooking and writing.

“It is important for those with AMD to stop smoking and eat a diet high in green leafy vegetables and omega fatty acids.”

EYE CARE TIPS Use eye protection — avoid unnecessary eye injuries by using protective eyewear that wraps around the eyes when working in an environment where there is a risk of something getting into your eyes, such as dust, metal fragments or chemicals. Also consider wearing protective eyewear when engaging in sports where balls or racquets are used, as they may pose a risk for eye injury.

OTH University of KwaZulu-Natal cricket teams were victorious last weekend after winning their respective T20 leagues and being crowned at the Pietermaritzburg Oval.

The teams that play in the Premier Division and the First Division put in brilliant effort at the weekend as the transformed club looks to continue pushing forward its youngsters at the forefront of the team.

Yashveer Singh, coaching manager at the KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union, congratulated all

who were involved in the cricket club’s success this season.

“Thanks to all the leaders in both teams for leading the youngsters and ensuring that they grow from strength to strength in this great game.

“It was a brilliant effort put forward by both teams and we will look to continue upon this success going forward,” said Singh.

Singh also congratulated the teams in the third and fourth divisions on their wins and being runners up in the other divisions, stating that it was an excellent weekend for the growth of cricket.
