Outdoor and active

What a fantastic year of learning it has been for both the Pre-Prep and Nursery School as well as the Prep School! Be it English, maths, reading or history, the pupils have broadend their horizons and shown their commitment to their subjects. In the spring and summer months, the glorious weather enabled teachers to use our ACADEMIC beautiful 100 acre site to teach some interactive lessons outside too!

UFTON COURT

Year 3 took a trip to Tudor times and immersed themselves in the past on their visit to Ufton Court. The history trip highlights included making bows and arrows, taking part in an audacious raid and dressing up in traditional clothes for a banquet. Pupils had a great time and loved learning about the Tudors!

In the library, Prep School pupils have their reading word counts recorded and those who reach 1 million words become a word millionaire! View the side collumn to see our avid readers from this year.

PROSE READING COMPETION

Each year we hold this competition because reading out loud is important for not only literacy skills, but also for character confidence. Well done to Annabel and Seb for winning the Prep School prose reading competition with their performances of ‘Rabbit’s Bad Habits’ by Julian Gough and ‘The Jungle Book’ by Rudyard Kipling.

POETRY COMPETION

The Preparatory School poetry final’s theme was “choice”. Every child in the Prep School participated in the class rounds and from those rounds, a class finalist was chosen to participate for the junior prize (Years 3 and 4), senior prize (Years 5 and 6) and overall winner. Congratulations to our winners Milly O, Finlay H and Sofia DSA who showed excellent writing skills!

WORLD BOOK DAY

In March, Claremont celebrated world book day which was a exciting opportunity for pupils to engage in story telling and a great excuse to dress up as their favourite characters! The Pre-Prep and Nursery school enjoyed a costume parade as well as a teachers versus children book quiz. Meanwhile, pupils in the Prep School threw themselves into a world book day story telling workshop. Proving it’s not just the pupils who get to enjoy world book day, the Prep School staff dressed up in their amazing Where’s Wally team costumes!
