OVERVIEW

As is typical for Year 5, several new pupils joined the year group in September and our existing Claremont pupils did not disappoint in giving them all a warm welcome and extending the hand of friendship. The autumn term brought with it the opportunity to delve into a variety of curriculum topics, including the ever-popular World War Two history topic, during which pupils enjoyed creating their own air raid shelter models. In January, a day trip to the Living Rainforest near Newbury brought a key geography topic to life, with children investigating the flora and fauna of the biome with a sense of great awe and wonder. Attention was then turned towards preparation for the Senior School entrance exam with the children working, as always, with admirable endeavour and positivity. Following this tremendous effort, the much anticipated Ironbridge residential trip saw pupils embrace a whole host of activities. One of the many highlights was a visit to Blists Hill Victorian town where children had the chance to dress up in authentic period costume and be taught the 3’R’s in the schoolroom by the extremely strict teacher, Miss McCullan. Fortunately, all escaped a caning!
