OVERVIEW

There have been so many highlights this year in Reception, from our Bollywood dancing workshop to den building and hot chocolate drinking forest school sessions with Mrs Watson. But we know one particularly special moment for the children (and teachers!) in the Spring term, was the arrival of our duck eggs. We were lucky enough to see 4 eggs hatch and had the pleasure of giving them their first swim. The ducklings inspired our work in writing and maths; we made tally charts to record their growth and wrote Duckling Diaries even using words such as incubator and hatching! We have embraced our Talk4Writing units this year. Before re-telling The Little Red Hen, we baked our own bread and even made our own butter. Not only was the bread and butter delicious, but it prompted lots of learning such as weighing out the ingredients and experimenting with changing states. It has been a fantastic first year of school.

‘I liked when we tasted all the different fruits in Handa’s Surprise.’ - Charlie

‘We got to give the ducklings their first swim, and they splashed us all! I got to hold three.’- Tabitha
