Set across 100 acres of beautiful historic parkland in Esher, Claremont provides an inspiring co-educational journey for pupils aged 2 to 18. Claremont junior school comprises Fan Court (Pre-nursery to Year 2) and Stable Court (Year 3 to 6). With excellent facilities, subject specialists and tailored provision, pupils grow in confidence and independence, building strong foundations for future achievements.

Smooth, secure transitions are central to our approach. From Pre-nursery, through the stages of junior school and beyond, we guide our children through a range of creative, practical and reassuring strategies, ensuring every pupil can progress to the next stage with confidence.

At Claremont, our natural environment is integral to our ethos. Set within 100 acres of safe, secure parkland, there are endless opportunities to explore, play and discover. Children thrive within this natural environment, developing confidence, curiosity and wellbeing alongside their academic and social growth. Specific outdoor facilities for junior school children include: a walled garden, a solar powered outdoor classroom, a mud kitchen, planting gardens, ponds, bird hides, a fire pit, an outdoor stage and play equipment.

Forest school lead by specialist teachers and supported by our Year 7 Duke of Edinburgh pupils develops independence, teamwork, problemsolving and resilience, while our bird hide encourages patience, focus and observation.

Pupils also enjoy classes in our heated swimming pools in summer and early autumn.

FAN COURT SNAPSHOT

Fan Court

A gentle, play-based introduction to school life for our youngest learners, where curiosity grows and exploration sparks a love of learning. Introducing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), including specialist teachers in forest school, music, PE and games (including swimming lessons from the summer term).

Morning session only: 8:35am to 12:00pm Full day session: ends at 3:15pm

A nurturing space for ages 3+, continuing the EYFS curriculum, introducing additional specialist teachers in computing and French, preparing our young learners for their journey towards school.

The first year of formal education and the final year of the EYFS curriculum. Children will start daily maths and phonics activities (we use ELS scheme “Essential Letters and Sounds”) YEAR 1

Wraparound care

Key Stage 1 of the curriculum commences in Year 1 Children transition gently into more formal learning with their own desks, and ten lessons daily, balanced by regular breaks and lunch. Pupils will have their fun first writing experiences, and a balance of structured lessons and exploration. Homework is light and communication with parents is supported through Tapestry.

The second year of Key Stage 1 runs to the end of Year 2. Pupils grow in independence, taking on leadership roles and enjoying broader responsibilities. A balanced timetable, including an introduction to team sport, creative opportunities, and strong pastoral support the children to feel confident and ready for the next stage, Stable Court

To support busy working families, we offer flexible, age-appropriate wraparound care led by our own junior school staff, trusted faces who know the children well. With early dropoffs from 7.45am and pick-ups until 6pm, this nurturing provision includes a hot meal and complements the school day.

STABLE COURT SNAPSHOT

YEAR 3

2 classes, 16 - 22 pupils per class

Year 3 begins Key Stage 2, with a mix of subject specialist teachers and form teachers leading core lessons. Pupils are introduced to classics and drama, and enjoy larger classrooms with TA support as they settle in to Stable Court. Pupils start building independence through classroom movement, leadership roles and their first overnight residential Maths is taught in two groups, English in mixed groups, and children begin the pen licence system Technology is used to further enhance the learning experience through the introduction of 1:1 devices - we favour a blended approach, where there is a strong focus on safe and responsible use. In Year 3, sport continues to develop team skills and performance, in an inclusive and enjoyable way, with swimming and a growing list of competitive fixtures

YEAR 4

3 classes, 16 - 22 pupils per class

YEAR 5

3 classes, 16 - 22 pupils per class

In Year 4, pupils continue to broaden their learning and develop independence. Music progresses with with class instrumentation, including the violin and steel pans, and slightly smaller classes support individual attention. Maths is taught in three groups, English in mixed groups, and the pen licence system continues A two-night residential at PGL Marchants Hill reinforces teamwork and resilience, while in sport pupils take on more structured competition with regular fixtures against other schools.

Year 5 brings a more structured subject specialist timetable, with pupils moving between classrooms Maths is delivered across four groups, and English delivered as in previous years in forms Mindfulness and outdoor education are introduced, alongside a three-night residential at in the summer term. Pupils now play advanced fixtures, representing the school in competitive matches across a wide range of sports.

YEAR 6

3 classes Year 6 16 - 22 pupils per class

Year 6 brings the Stable Court journey to its peak, preparing pupils for senior school through specialist lessons and scholarship masterclasses. Pupils take on significant responsibilities as school, house or sports captains, charity committee members, and monitors, developing independence and leadership. A highlight of the year is their first overseas residential, spending four nights in France, alongside a rich programme of trips and enrichment opportunities Sport rounds off the experience with a full fixture calendar, tours and team leadership roles, ensuring pupils are ready for the challenges and opportunities of senior school.

Key Stage 1: Years 1 and 2 in Fan Court

At Claremont, Key Stage 1 builds on Early Years Foundations, guiding children through Year 1 and 2 with a balance of structured learning, exploratory play and specialist teaching. Pupils develop independence, communication and curiosity, while enjoying a broad, engaging curriculum that nurtures academic, creative and personal growth.

Core learning: English and maths (daily lessons, phonics using the Essential Letters and Sounds scheme, and Suave words to expand vocabulary)

Specialist subjects: computing/coding, art and design, music, PE, forest school and MFL

Hands-on & creative learning: Carousel activities, small-group teaching, practical projects and cross-curricular exploration

Reading & writing: Twice-weekly reading, ‘Talk for Writing’ units with oral retelling, and child-led first “big writing” experiences in a relaxed, creative environment

At Claremont Stable Court, Key Stage 2 pupils follow a broad, stimulating curriculum that develops academic, creative and personal potential that further develops independence, deepens specialist teaching, and provides every child with opportunities and platforms to explore, create and lead.

Core learning: English, maths (with mixed-ability and streamed sets to stretch and support every learner), science

Specialist Subjects: MFL, music, art and design, drama, computing, sport, technology

Hands-on & creative learning: science experiments, art and design projects, outdoor education and cross-curricular projects

Technology: 1:1 devices, online learning environment including a range of online apps to support curricular aims and to enhance a personalised learning pathways

Character & leadership: a vibrant house system and activities, buddying, leadership roles, PSHEE, assemblies, residential trips, inter-house competitions

Through school benefits

At Claremont, every pupil’s journey is guided by our skilled and dedicated team. Our through-school approach ensures smooth transitions from Fan Court to Stable Court and onward to senior school, with a focus on each child’s individual development across academic learning, co-curricular enrichment and pastoral care.

Early years to Key Stage 1

From pre-nursery to year 2 in Fan Court, children build strong foundations in a nurturing, curiosity-driven environment, with familiar routines and close relationships easing their progression through Early Years and Key Stage 1.

Fan Court to Stable Court

The move to Stable Court (years 3–6) is supported through visits, buddy systems and introductions to new staff and classrooms, helping pupils feel confident and excited. Familiar faces remain present daily to provide continuity and reassurance.

Stable Court to senior school

The transition to senior school is carefully managed, with no single entrance exam – we are one school. Our rigorous internal assessments track and support academic progress and set clear learning targets, while also considering each child’s character, work ethic and co-curricular engagement, providing a strong foundation for the next stage of their education.

As pupils prepare for the next step, taster sessions, summer communications and creative engagement with staff and peers ensure they feel confident, valued and fully supported as they move forward.

From Reception onwards, our broad and exciting cocurricular programme is at the heart of school life. With over 80 clubs spanning six key categories, children can explore new interests or develop existing passions – from sport to science, ballet to bushcraft, fencing to forest school. Led by our experienced staff and specialist coaches, every club is designed to be fun, enriching and confidence-building, with pupils helping to shape the programme and make it their own.

Trips & residentials

Beyond the classroom, pupils enjoy trips and experiences each year, including local outings, visiting experts, theatre visits and residential trips from Year 3 upwards, including overseas destinations from Year 5.
