Welcome
Welcome to Claremont Choosing the school in which your child will grow, develop and learn is one of the most significant steps any parent takes. We are proud of Claremont’s strong reputation for being a compassionate, child-centred school of choice for families seeking an academically ambitious environment that educates the whole child. Set in 100 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds, Claremont is known for focusing on the academic potential of our pupils, but not at the expense of their wellbeing; for a culture that nurtures pupils’ limitless potential, not just in exams but also in equipping them with the skills to shape the world around them at university, in their careers and in the wider society beyond.
We prioritise, too, an understanding of character and the way in which our relationship with others is fundamental to our successes in life, university and careers. We warmly invite you to explore our school, meet our pupils and teachers and discover why Claremont could be the perfect fit for your child’s educational journey.
Whilst the vast majority of our pupils head to Russell Group universities, we actively encourage every pupil to pursue their own goals and passions, be that creative endeavours, the performing arts or apprenticeship opportunities.

Introducing Claremont We want our pupils to be ambitious in their goals, to challenge themselves, to have a go at new things and to achieve – both inside and outside the classroom. Pastoral care, alongside our high academic reputation and broad co-curricular programme, is central to our impressive school where each child is valued, encouraged, challenged and supported to unleash their potential.
Our school community is well known for its tight-knit, warm and inclusive feel. Our students leave us, not only having achieved excellent academic outcomes, but also having established life-long friendships and an enduring connection with Claremont.
Our vision
Our ethos
In accordance with our mission, Claremont develops individuals who are outstanding citizens, aware of their responsibility to others and contribute positively to global society.
Goodness underpins this school. Teachers, staff, pupils and their families are expected to support and extend the atmosphere of respect, courtesy, the love of learning and the value of friendship that is held dear at Claremont. This peaceful and purposeful intent extends throughout every lesson and into the pastoral and co-curricular activities we offer.
We realise this by being a high-quality school of choice where young people achieve more than they think is possible.
Young people leave Claremont as confident, contributing and caring members of the global community. They cherish the values that equip them to make a positive contribution and be a force for good in the world.

Admissions FAQs We understand that choosing the right school for your child is a significant decision and you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you wish. In the meantime, these Frequently Asked Questions may provide the answers to some of your questions.
Q
What is the application timeline?
A. Please refer to the key dates opposite. We would recommend applying once you have visited if you feel that Claremont is the right fit for your child. The application deadline for 2027 entry is 30 October 2026, but we would recommend applying in good time before this. Once we receive your application, we will request a reference from your child’s current school.
Q
How selective is Claremont?
A. As entry into Years 8, 9 and 10 is dependent on spaces becoming available, places are offered on a limited basis. When considering applications, we look carefully at each pupil's academic profile, school reports and references, as well as how they are likely to settle and thrive within their prospective year group. For pupils applying to join in Year 10, additional consideration is required, as our GCSE courses begin in Year 9. The Head will take all available information into account to assess whether Claremont is the right fit and whether a pupil is well placed to integrate successfully into both the academic and pastoral life of the school.
claremont.net
Q
How big are class sizes?
A. We typically have around 126 pupils in each year group. Pupils are taught in six teaching classes, with class sizes of approximately 21 pupils for most lessons. For mathematics, pupils are taught in seven sets of around 18 pupils, allowing for more tailored teaching and support. As pupils move into their GCSE years and begin studying their chosen subjects, class sizes often become even smaller, reflecting the varying levels of interest and uptake across different courses. This allows for a more personalised learning experience and increased teacher support in specialist subjects.
Q
What does the taster, interview and assessment day look like?
A. Applicants will be paired with a current Claremont pupil from their prospective year group, giving them the opportunity to experience life as a member of our school community. They will also have a short 15minute interview with a member of the Senior Leadership Team. In the afternoon, applicants will complete an online CAT4 assessment. The day is designed to be welcoming and relaxed, allowing pupils to experience Claremont first-hand while giving us the opportunity to get to know them.

Q
What happens at interview?
A. At Claremont, we value depth of character alongside academic attainment and all candidates will have a short interview, at which they will be able to discuss their interests and allow us to get to know them a little better. This interview will take place during their taster day on Thursday 12 November 2026.
Q
What papers will my child sit on the assessment day?
A. As part of the admissions process, candidates will sit the CAT4 (Cognitive Abilities Test). CAT4 is designed to assess how pupils think and learn, rather than testing curriculum knowledge. The assessment looks at areas such as verbal, non-verbal, quantitative and spatial reasoning, helping us understand a pupil's academic potential and preferred learning style. There is no need for revision, tutoring or extensive preparation prior to the assessment. CAT4 is not a test of learned knowledge, and we would prefer to see a pupil's natural strengths and abilities. GL Assessment specifically advises against practising for the test, as this can affect the reliability of the results. The CAT4 assessment is computer-based, with clear instructions and practice examples provided before each section.
Q
I’m worried my child will be too nervous on the day?
A. Please do not worry. Those involved in the interviews and assessment day are carefully chosen and are friendly, experienced staff who are adept at helping even the quietest child feel at ease and open up. We know that this is a new experience and can sometimes feel nerve-wracking, so we work hard to ensure that the taster, interview and assessment day is as welcoming, friendly and relaxed as possible. Throughout the day, applicants will be paired with pupils from their prospective year group, who will act as buddies and accompany them at all times. They will be together during lessons, break times and lunch, helping them to settle in, make connections with their peers and gain a genuine insight into day-to-day life at Claremont. We find that having a pupil buddy provides reassurance and helps children feel comfortable and confident throughout their visit.
Q
How will my child settle in to school life at Claremont?
A. Joining Claremont in Years 8, 9 or 10 is an an exciting opportunity, and we work carefully to ensure that new pupils feel welcomed and supported from the very start. Before joining the school, new starters are invited to an induction day, where they will have the chance to meet other pupils joining their year group, as well as fellow new starters across the school.
Further information about CAT4 can be found on the GL Assessment website including access arrangements.

Bursaries We offer means-tested bursaries designed to make our exceptional education accessible.
All applications for bursaries are considered on the basis of individual circumstances and are means-tested. Bursary funding is limited and priority is therefore given to pupils entering Years 7 and 12. The school is willing to consider support at other points of entry; however, this is usually only in exceptional circumstances. Bursaries are available in addition to a scholarship or on their own. Families who wish to explore financial support should contact the business services department by email on businessservices@claremont.surrey.sch.uk for more information about the application process.

Our academic approach
Cultivating essential skills The curriculum and our teaching and learning are specifically designed to not just prepare pupils for successful examination results, but to prepare them to be successful professionals and global citizens. We achieve this through offering a real diversity and breadth of subjects on offer, building a curriculum as much as possible around the strengths and interests of the individual learner, whilst ensuring that all pupils have a strong core foundation of skills and understanding.
We focus on cultivating essential skills that foster effective and independent learning, such as metacognition (the ability to self-evaluate) and problem-solving. These skills are embedded in our teaching, delivered through engaging and challenging tasks, content, and concepts. Claremont’s three-year GCSE programme gives pupils the time to go further. They build deeper understanding, explore enrichment and develop creativity and personal skills alongside strong academic foundations. With more space to be challenged, pupils gain knowledge and confidence that go well beyond GCSE, creating a powerful platform for A level success. The impact is clear. Claremont pupils achieve almost a full grade higher per GCSE subject than national expectations based on their starting points, equivalent to eight to nine grades across their results. This places Claremont among the UK’s leading performers for academic progress. And in 2026, Claremont celebrated its strongest ever A level results, setting a new benchmark for academic excellence.

The learner attributes wheel The curriculum, together with our approach to teaching and learning, is designed not only to prepare pupils for successful examination outcomes, but also to help them develop into successful professionals and global citizens. We place a strong emphasis on nurturing the skills that make pupils more effective and independent learners, including metacognition (the ability to reflect on and evaluate their own learning) and problem-solving. These skills are embedded throughout our teaching and are developed through engaging, challenging and thought-provoking tasks, content and concepts.

Looking to the future
We are finalising a visionary masterplan for the coming decades which will ensure our facilities provide pupils with the most enriching learning experience possible in an inspirational setting. Joyce Grenfell Theatre upgrade
Co-curricular programme evolutions
Refurbishment of the Joyce Grenfell theatre began last year with the installation of state-ofthe-art stage lighting and sound. The next exciting phase of the project, later this year, will bring further lighting upgrades, new rigging, and professional pull-out seating to increase audience capacity and comfort.
From 2026, our senior school co-curricular programme will be significantly refreshed and expanded. Shaped by our pupils’ ambition for deeper academic exploration and CV-building opportunities, it will introduce a wider range of clubs that extend classroom learning in exciting ways, alongside nationally recognised, UCAS application enriching activities and competitions. This will sit alongside our much-loved sport and creative provision, where music, drama, art and design clubs continue to spark imagination, with increased before- and after-school opportunities beyond sport and continued involvement in highly respected initiatives such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
These developments will create a theatre space that matches the quality, ambition, and professionalism of our pupils’ productions, from Nursery to Sixth Form, with comfortable theatre seating for a truly professional theatre experience.
Upgrading sports facilities We have recently added a two-court AstroTurf all-weather facility and are actively exploring further all-weather sports provision, with an indoor swimming pool identified as a key future priority.
