User Journey - Findings Summarised

WHAT DID I FIND OUT?

After conducting my primary research and analysing student’s daily work routines, it’s interesting to see that majority of students have similar daily routines. This will make it easier to accommodate for students as they will all be studying similar subjects and will have similar user journeys. However, it is still necessary to consider that all students work differently and some for instance, may prefer to work at a desk in a different room rather than in their bedroom. Additionally, some work later and longer than others, which can have an impact on the choice of furniture - ensuring it is ergonomic.

I also asked the same students to describe their non work routines. This would give me a better insight on some of the spaces and facilities I can include to keep students entertained and engaged. Majority during a time of the pandemic would usually, watch TV (netflix), hangout with their flatmates or do extra uni work to fill the days.

One thing to consider is that this research was conducted during a pandemic, so people’s lifestyles would have changed. Therefore their routines will not be entirely representative. WHAT DOES THE DIAGRAM SHOW?

The diagram is an illustrative representation of the primary research I have previously conducted. Using four different students daily work routines, I added them on a chart replicating a clock to show the times they do different tasks and activities.

Each student is colour coded. Each of them will have two colours - one is slightly lighter which represents the AM and the darker shade represents the PM.

How will this influence my design?

Firstly, knowing students daily routines and activities will influence the type of spaces, facilities and furniture my design will need. This will ensure that students are accommodated for throughout. Secondly, analysing the similarities in their routines will also make it easier to configure communal spaces, as most need the same things and also have similar user journeys.

After gathering some primary research of students’ daily work routines, I have curated an illustrative diagram to represent the information.
