BACKGROUND

Creata, a global leader in the design of novelty toys for major brands such as Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and Kellogg’s, embarked on an ambitious project to relocate their London office. The goal was to provide a contemporary and inspiring workplace for their creative team. With 13 locations worldwide, this relocation was critical to their ongoing mission of fostering meaningful connections through the power of play. The new office location at 12-16 Laystall Street, London, EC1R 4PF, would host 16 staff members dedicated to driving innovation in toy design.

CREATA’S INSPIRING WORKSPACE DESIGNED BY CITYSPACE

Creata sought a workspace that would not only cater to the functional needs of their team but also inspire creativity and collaboration. Cityspace was tasked with designing this modern and stimulating environment, ensuring it aligned with Creata’s brand identity and operational requirements.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES IN SECURING OFFICE SPACE FOR CREATA

The project presented several challenges, the foremost being the need to identify and secure a suitable office space that could be adapted to meet Creata’s unique needs. Cityspace played an instrumental role during the building search phase by conducting rapid appraisals of shortlisted spaces. These appraisals were complemented by test fit space plans, prepared within a 24-hour timeframe, which illustrated how each potential location could be tailored to suit Creata’s business operations. This rapid turnaround was crucial in guiding Creata’s final decision.

CITYSPACE’S MULTIFACETED OFFICE SOLUTION FOR CREATA

Cityspace’s solution was multifaceted, addressing both aesthetic and functional aspects of the new office. Key design considerations included sourcing sustainable materials, such as reclaimed wood for workstations, coupled with exposed steel frames, to create a durable and eco-friendly work environment. They incorporated innovative flooring with woven vinyl that extended along the walls in the meeting room, adding a unique visual element and enhancing the overall design. Additionally, quirky outdoor furniture from Jennifer Newman was selected to maximize the use of the outdoor terrace, providing a relaxing space for staff during breaks.

Additionally, to support Creata’s specific operational needs, Cityspace designed and built a viewing studio with one-way glass. This facility allowed Creata’s research team to observe children interacting with toys without distraction, ensuring the effectiveness of their product evaluations. The studio was strategically placed in an area with minimal natural light to optimize the one-way glass feature.

IMPACT OF THE NEW LAYSTALL STREET OFFICE ON CREATA’S WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The new office at Laystall Street has had a transformative impact on Creata’s working environment. Previously housed in a period building on Bond Street, the fragmented and uninspiring space led many staff to opt for remote work. The new location, however, has reversed this trend. The thoughtfully designed, contemporary workspace has encouraged employees to prefer coming into the office, fostering greater collaboration and creative output.

By effectively addressing Creata’s needs and overcoming the initial challenges, Cityspace delivered a solution that not only met but exceeded expectations. The successful implementation of this project highlights Cityspace’s commitment to creating workspaces that are both functional and inspiring, reinforcing our reputation as a trusted partner in office refurbishment and design.
