Director's Message

As summer turns to fall we invite you to stay active. The weather is still warm, the pool is still open and the fun doesn’t have to end. We have many classes for you and your family to enjoy this season from the tried and true to exciting and new.

If you still want more time in the pool, register for Mermaid University which offers classes for children and adults; or try your hand at underwater hockey, an exciting competitive team sport. We have revamped our Shallow and Deep Water Aerobics classes, you won’t want to miss these updated workouts that provide strength training and aerobics conditioning for people of all fitness levels.

A new school year is starting and we have your children covered.

Toddlers will have a great time creating, learning and playing with friends at our new Preschool Enrichment One Day Workshops for 2-4 year olds. Vacaville 6th graders can join the festivities at our once a month Friday night teen events and 7th and 8th graders can attend the Socialite Night in November. These events include a DJ, dancing and games. If your child is interested in coding, check out Introduction to Computer Coding, this great starter class will explore four different coding languages in an online setting. We offer this and more within our Events Guide.

Fall is a perfect time for family events. Start the season off with our Floating Pumpkin Patch on October 6 at the Graham Aquatic Center. Dive in and pick the perfect pumpkin, play games, make crafts and swim. If you like dancing, live music and silent auctions, you will want a ticket to attend Dance to the Big Band Sounds.

This all ages event is on October 13. Our popular dog event, Howl-O-Ween, is happening on October 27 at Andrews Park.

Dress your doggies up and enter them in the costume contest and Pooch Parade or just show up to watch the promenade and maybe take home a new friend from the mobile adoption unit.

There will be prizes, vendors, treats and more.

HOWL-O-WEEN Costume Contest / Parade All Ages

The Age of Love Movie Ages 21+

This documentary “The Age of Love” documents the real-life adventures of a group of seniors who participate in an unprecedented speed dating event. The movie is an alternately poignant and funny exploration of the universality of love and desire, regardless of age. The Age of Love opens eyes and starts conversations in support of emotional growth for all ages. Sponsored by the Vacaville Elk’s Lodge. Light lunch included. Do you hear the sleigh bells ringing? Then come on over as we celebrate the season with a Santa Breakfast!

Enjoy an all you can eat pancake breakfast along with two sausage links. Your favorite beverages are included. Each child will have the chance to visit with Santa and create winter themed crafts. Children under two years eat free with a paying adult. All adults must purchase a ticket. Preschool fundraiser raffle will be available. Register early - seating is limited. Must be pre-registered, no onsite registration will be taken.

A Magical Visit With Santa All Ages

Holiday Connection: Senior Santa The Holiday Connection Program provides gifts for seniors during the holiday season. Seniors who live at home or in residential care facilities are eligible. Most have little contact with family or friends. The Holiday Connection Program provides social contact for these seniors during the holidays.

A Magical visit with Santa right in your own home! Forget the long lines at the mall and invite Santa to your place.

Create those special memories for your family to cherish for years to come. Santa will be dropping by to inspect the stockings, and admire the Christmas tree with your children or grandchildren. Make sure to have the camera ready.

Youth Enrichment Activities Busy Bees Ages 10-42 mos

New! Twinkle Two’s Princess

Our toddler class provides a nurturing environment in which socialization skills, cognitive skills, independence, fine and gross motor skills, and language development are learned through imaginative play, large and small group activities, story time, sensory activities, music, dance, exploration, building, finger plays and more.

A perfect warm up class to instill lyrical dance movement, imagination and social skills, with our favorite princess songs. Dancers can wear their favorite princess costumes or leotard, leggings, tutu, ballet shoes or barefoot.

Initial registration must be made in person. Children do not need to be potty trained. Parents are not required to participate. Birth certificate and shot record required. Instructors shall determine the readiness of child to participate in the program.

Preschool Hip Hop

Ages 18-42 mos

This interactive experience for parents and children combines parental support and quality time for young children. Your toddler will develop social skills through play experiences.

This is a place where parents/ caregivers and children play together!

Adults assist their children in activities that promote confidence and social skills while having fun. An instructor is there to serve as a guide and conduct the closing circle time activity. Children must be age appropriate by start date of class. Sibling fee $10 for ages 6-9 months.

Mother Goose Storytime Enjoy some early literacy fun at this light-hearted story and craft time designed just for the youngest crowd. Join us as we bounce, tickle and rhyme our way through the morning.

Stories are followed by a simple craft time that will enhance motor skills and creative expression.

This class stimulates your child’s musical development through singing, listening and exploring musical instruments. Each class focuses on one storybook.

Students listen to the book, hear related music, then make a craft of the same theme. All supplies included.

Youth Enrichment Activities Children's Corner Preschool REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR CHILDREN’S CORNER PRESCHOOL

Children’s Corner Preschool has been educating Vacaville’s young children for over 45 years. In a safe and positive environment, our program supports the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of each child. We believe a hands-on approach to learning promotes exploration, creativity and discovery. Our teachers and staff are sensitive to individual differences and developmental stages of all children and apply appropriate practices to the classroom and curriculum. Our program provides a well-rounded preschool experience and fosters a child’s natural curiosity for learning. Our curriculum is planned around monthly themes.

Registration requirements: A $50 non-refundable annual registration fee and a non-refundable first month’s tuition payment are due at the initial registration. The remaining 8 tuition installments are due by the 20th of each month from October 2018 - May 2019. You will be charged a $25 late fee after the due date. Late fees are strictly enforced. NO NEW STUDENTS WILL BE ADDED TO THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR AFTER MARCH 1ST 2019. Children must be the age required on or before September 1, 2018. INITIAL REGISTRATION MUST BE MADE IN PERSON. Preschool for 4 year olds Our four year old class develops language, writing and literacy skills with the help of the Frontline Phonics program. Awareness of mathematical and scientific reasoning is provided through a variety of appropriate activities and creative expression is encouraged through art and music. Children have the opportunity to play indoors/outdoors and engage in large and small group activities daily. Material fee: $15 for all 4 year old classes.

Instructors shall determine participant readiness.

Preschool for 3 year olds Our three year old class introduces a child into a classroom setting, where self-help, self-esteem, socialization, cooperation skills and academic concepts are introduced through art, music, stories, circle-time, and indoor and outdoor play.

Youth Enrichment Activities Thank Goodness It’s Fun Club

Grades 1-6

This recreational enrichment program for children in grades 1-6 provides a variety of activities in a safe setting. Participants are supervised by responsible, trained staff. Character development, socialization, and esteem building are interwoven into daily activities which include: organized games, arts and crafts, outdoor play, homework help, and other positive recreational experiences. We strive to promote health, wellness, and fun! Initial registration must be done in person. There is a non-refundable annual registration fee of $55.

Registration fee is due prior to the end of the current month, any payments received after that will be assessed a $25 late fee. For more information call 4495616.

Note: While we do not normally accept Kindergartners, approval is considered on a case by case basis. Please call 449-5616 for more information.

TGIFun Club 10-Hour Drop-In Cards Grades 1-6

Drop in and enjoy a fun-filled morning or afternoon at TGIF! 10-Hour Drop-in cards are a great option for families that require only a few hours of care per week. They can be used any day of the week at all sites that are not full for Before or After school care. Drop-in availability is on a first come, first served basis and drop-in attendance must be requested at least 24 hours in advance. If a drop card expires while a student is on site, you will be called to pick up your child and a late fee will be assessed.

Cost: $62 per card Addt’l Cost: $55 non-refundable registration fee required.

Notes: Cards can be used in one hour increments only.

TGIF - School Recess Camp! For parents that work on school recess days, our program has prepared a special 1 day camp just for you. The kids will enjoy a care free day and you will have peace of mind knowing your child is safe with us while you are at work!

New memories await when you spend your holiday or Winter Break at Camp VACAtion. This program offers children in grades 1-6 opportunities to socialize, explore, play, and create in a safe and supervised setting. Each week will include games, projects and special activities. After School Education & Safety Program (ASES)

The ASES (After School Education and Safety) program is designed to provide a safe physical and emotional environment that promotes relationship building. We offer an academically rewarding environment to students after school, which results in students’ achieving success in the regular classroom. The program provides homework assistance, physical activities and outdoor play opportunities, nutritious snacks, and enrichment classes which may include science, technology, arts and crafts, gardening, team and character building, visual and performing arts, chess club, and more!

This FREE program is offered every day school is in session from the time school gets out until 6:00pm. Enrollment is limited to students at Fairmont, Padan, Markham and Hemlock Elementary Schools on a first come, first served basis.

General Information Satisfy your child’s desire to play sports and have fun too! Our programs are designed to introduce participants to a variety of traditional sports. We focus on basic instruction and help children develop proper techniques to further enhance the overall sports experience. Participating in sports helps youth develop self discipline, social networking and sportsmanship.

Introduce your child to Basketball with Mini Muscles.

Hip Hop - Beginner/Advanced

The Leader-In-Training program is designed to foster personal and professional growth for enthusiastic 1317 year olds and is held in conjunction with the City of Vacaville’s camps.

Underwater Hockey is the ultimate team sport, played at the bottom of the pool. This game is elegant with finesse being as important as strength. Youth will learn basic UWH instruction, “how-to’s,” snorkeling and swimming techniques, on top of scrimmaging. Climbing Caterpillars

This class provides a safe, fun, and unique way to bond with your tot. Children explore creative movement while increasing fine and gross motor skills. The emphasis is on socialization and group activity. This class also provides an opportunity for the parent/guardian to learn how to assist their tot in the use of gymnastics equipment. Parent/ guardian participation is required.

Children will explore movement and increase coordination through climbing, jumping, swinging, and tumbling.

Magnolia Park Southtown near Vanden Rd The first phase of this park is located on the western half of the Southtown oval. The park includes three covered group picnic areas (each with three or eight tables and barbecues), play areas for children 2 to 12 years old with a custom spray play feature, and a restroom building. The park also has an unlit ballfield and full size basketball court.

Andrews Park 720 E. Monte Vista Avenue and School Street Surrounded by beautiful trees, this 17 acre park is perfect for birthday parties, company picnics, and family reunions. Located within the park is Great Wonders playground, complete with tot lot and swings.

There are 2 picnic areas with seating for up to 100 and has 5 barbecues. Permanent rest rooms are available.

McBride Senior Center Located in historic downtown Vacaville, this is an ideal location for birthday parties, receptions, company trainings or meetings.

Three Oaks Community Center An ideal location for conferences, weddings, receptions, corporate meetings, and other community functions.

This facility has a main Assembly Hall complete with stage (64’x58’), Activity Room (36’x36’), Multi-Purpose Room (52’x52’), two meeting rooms and ample parking.

Ulatis Community Center An ideal location for conferences, weddings, receptions, corporate meetings, and other community functions.

This facility has rooms which can be re-configured based upon your needs, a large kitchen, and ample parking.

This 18 acre park features two sheltered picnic areas with seating for 72, barbecues, a playground, 4 softball /baseball fields, 2 turf fields and off street parking.

Lagoon Valley Park I-80/Peña Adobe Park Exit This 306 acre scenic park is home to Lagoon Lake, equestrian and bike trails, and excellent hiking in the great outdoors. The park also features a 30,000 square foot fenced in dog park complete with trees and water.

There are several picnic areas that are great locations for family reunions and company picnics. The park is also an ideal location for sporting events, such as walkathons and cross country events. This park features the lovely Hume, Rotary, and Hospice Groves.

Peña Adobe Park Peña Adobe and I-80 Exit South of City An ideal location for family picnics, birthday parties, corporate events, festivals and school field trips. The park is located on 6.4 acres has 2 rental areas, barbecue grills, large gazebo, 2 horseshoe pits. This location is also home to the historic Peña Adobe and the MowersGoheen Museum.

Registration is now open! Note: A “resident” is anyone living in the Vacaville City limits. A “non-resident” is a Vacaville PO Box address and anyone living outside the Vacaville City limits. There is a 15% non-resident fee.

There is a 10% sibling discount for activities for children 18 and under participating in the same program. The sibling discount is taken off the lower fee. There is a $25 service charge for all returned checks.

a. the program is canceled by the Vacaville Community Services Department; or b. the Refund/Credit Request Form is submitted prior to the program refund deadline date.

3. Refund/Credit Request Forms received after the program refund deadline date will be reviewed on a case by case basis. As a general rule, a program refund request will not be granted after the program refund deadline date unless there are extenuating circumstances and will be: a. subject to an administration fee of $5.00 for each program $50.00 and under, and 10% of the class fee for each program over $50.00. b. issued as a credit on customer’s family account to be used for future Community Services program registration.

4. No refunds will be issued after a program ends – no exceptions.

The City of Vacaville provides assistance with youth registration fees for income eligible families through our Reduced Fee Program. Youth who meet the criteria will receive a 25% discount which can be applied towards participation in any of the recreation programs we offer at $16 or over.

An application must be completed and approved prior to registration. To apply for our Reduced Fee Program, simply fill out an application at the Administration Office located at 40 Eldridge Ave., Ste 11.
