Los estudiantes de la Escuela Mark Keppel ejecutaron en abril su primera carrera Jog-A-Thon para recaudar fondos. Todos los estudiantes de kínder a quinto, con entusiasmo corrieron alrededor de su campo deportivo y agradecieron profundamente a los maestros y padres de familia que asistieron para apoyarlos.
La directora Dr. Sanco fue la maestra de ceremonias para el evento y con ayuda de su micrófono, inicio a los estudiantes de varias clases con una sesión de estiramiento. Los estudiantes llevaron una hoja para marcar cada vuelta a la cancha mientras corrían.

Paramount Unified School District’s Parent University 2016
In an effort to increase parent and community involvement and collaboration, Paramount Unified School District (PUSD) offered parents a series of three Parent University workshops in April. More than sixty parents attended the workshops.
The focus of the workshops was college and career readiness for middle school students. The Middle School Matters workshop presented information on the social and emotional development of middle school students and the importance of attendance and grades in middle school. The ABCs of Going to College in California workshop examined California’s
higher education system from community colleges to universities including admission requirements, financial support and the impact of high school grades. The We’re Moving on Up to High School workshop will focus on A-G requirements, SAT and ACT exams, and creating college portfolios. Parents who attended all three workshops received certificates of completion and were entered into a raffle to win a Kindle Fire tablet reader. Additionally, thirty parents signed up to participate in guided tours of Cerritos College and Long Beach City College as culminating activities in May.

En un esfuerzo de incrementar el envolvimiento y colaboración de los padres de familia y la comunidad, el Distrito Escolar Unificado de Paramount (PUSD) brindó a los padres una serie de tres talleres sobre universidades en el mes de abril. Paramount Unified School District Honors Employees of the Year
Teachers along with Secretaries, Instructional Assistants, Security and Student Nutrition Workers (Classified Employees) were celebrated on Monday, May 9th with fine dining and a program of recognition.
The venue was the Paramount High School West Campus gymnasium and recently updated auditorium. An evening of festivity began with an honorary dinner provided for the honorees and guests. Entertainment was provided by the Paramount High School Funk Band.
The celebration continued after dinner, with a program filled with entertainment by the Paramount High School Choir, a salute by the JROTC Color Guard and a stage recognition for each of the employees honored by the Board of Education, the Superintendent and Associations (Teachers Association of Paramount and California Schools Employees Association). Each honoree was showered by
praises from all in attendance, flowers, portraits and certificates.
The gala concluded with the final grand announcement of the District-Wide Teacher and Classified Employee of the Year. With a drum-roll, Patricia Real was announced as the District-wide Teacher of the Year and Laura Sandoval as the Classified Employee of the Year.
Ms. Real teaches Special Education at Paramount Park Middle School and is praised for the achievement her students make in a warm and engaging classroom. Mrs. Sandoval’s commitment and dedication to both coordinating and serving healthy meals to students and staff across the district and the City of Paramount is renown.

Empleados Del Año
Los maestros junto con las secretarias, asistentes de maestro, trabajadores de seguridad y del departamento de nutrición (empleados clasificados) celebraron el lunes, 9 de junio con una elegante cena y un programa de reconocimiento.
La sede fue el gimnasio de la Escuela Paramount High West Campus y el recién renovado auditorio. Una tarde de fiesta que inició con una cena de honor ofrecida a los honorados y sus invitados. El entretenimiento fue proporcionado por la Banda de la Escuela Paramount High.
La celebración continuó después de la cena, con un programa lleno de diversión y entretenimiento por el Coro de la Escuela Paramount High, un saludo de la Guardia JROTC a cada uno de los empleados reconocidos.
Ellos fueron felicitados por uno de los miembros de la Junta Directiva, la Superintendente y las asociaciones (Asociación de Maestros de Paramount y Asociación de Empleados de la Educación en California). Summer Food Service Program
Children who eat nutritious meals and participate in safe activities during the summer are more creative and productive at school and at home. According to a recently released report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the number of families struggling to put food on the table has skyrocketed.
Paramount U.S.D. and the City of Paramount Parks and Recreation Department are collaborating in a joint effort to provide two nutritious meals a day and two hours of recreational opportunities at no cost to the students or their families to combat hunger and the increase in childhood obesity.
District and City staff will open
all elementary and middle school campuses (except Jackson) Monday through Friday, beginning Monday, June 13th through Friday, August 8th. The day will start with breakfast and board games from 9:00-10:00, Parks and Recreation staff will then take students to play areas where they will have a host of activities to choose from including, sports, arts and crafts and physical fitness from 10:00 to 12:00. Star Program staff and children will then return to the dining area for a sizzling BBQ from 12:00 to 1:00 and will then be released after a nutritious day full of healthy activities that enrich their summer day.
