5.3 GIS Enterprise Deployment Recommendations

Automation should be implemented through ArcGIS technology to perform geodatabase replication between sites to ensure the accuracy of the data stays in-sync as needed. High Availability (HA) while related to, should not be confused with Disaster Recovery (DR) or Highly Recoverable (HR). Generally, HA strives to retain operational service delivery, whereas DR or HR focuses on data retention and system restoration. DR/HR is the process by which a system is restored to a previous, acceptable state after a disaster or unplanned downtime. While DR/HR plans are executed it is typical for service delivery to be disrupted until the system has been restored.

5.3 GIS Enterprise Deployment Recommendations

Esri provides a set of best deployment patterns for the ArcGIS Platform that encompasses on premise, in the Cloud and hybrid strategies. This section identifies the need for the City of Miramar to separate the development, staging, and production environments to help ensure a consistent product life cycle as the City deploys applications and services across the enterprise.

• Production: operational, real-time compute environment. • Staging: a separate, mirrored, pre-production environment. • Development: a limited scale and scope environment sufficient for the development of primary code and data modeling. Before option deployment patterns are outlined it is important to understand the critical nature of 3-tiered deployment environments. The diagram below provided by Esri illustrates the conceptual reference architecture and deployment pattern for Production, Staging, and Development environments. It will be necessary for the City to determine the level of engagement they are willing to support. It is strongly recommend having at least a separate environment for production, development, and processing (cache creation and any data interoperability processes) as described in this graphic.
