Welcome to Lynchburg’s Summer Youth Resource Guide!
Summer is a time for fun, growth, and new adventures, and the City of Lynchburg is excited to help our youth make the most of it! This guide brings together a wide range of programs, activities, and learning opportunities offered by the City and its partners, all in one convenient place.
From exploring new hobbies to staying active and safe, there’s something for everyone. While this guide highlights City-sponsored programs, we know our community is bursting with even more, so we encourage families to also check out what local nonprofits, churches, and neighborhood leaders have to offer!
Inside, you’ll find resources focused on four key areas: safety, recreation, education, and food. Whether it’s mastering dance, designing stormwater solutions, diving into a good book, or enjoying a healthy meal, Lynchburg is committed to providing a safe, enriching, and nourishing summer for every young person.

Summer Safety Tips from the Lynchburg Police Department
Tips for Parents and Guardians
FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN:
• When your child is old enough, make sure they know their parent’s or guardian’s basic contact information like name, phone number, and address.
• Teach your child how to dial 9-1-1 and when it is appropriate to call.
• Always use a car seat or booster for children under eight. The LPD and Lynchburg Fire Department have certified technicians that can help ensure your seat is installed correctly.
• Never leave children alone in a parked vehicle.
• Always double-check the backseat before locking your vehicle.
• Talk to your child about the importance of being cautious with strangers and what to do if approached.
RESOURCES
FOR OLDER CHILDREN:
• Provide a list of phone numbers of trusted friends and family your child can call in an emergency. If they have a cellphone set up an In Case of Emergency (ICE) contact.
• Be clear with your teen about your expectations for keeping in contact with you
• Talk to your child about the internet. Make sure they know to never send personal information or photos.
• Use the parental and privacy controls available on your child’s devices to keep them safe.
• Talk to your child about the dangers of drugs and alcohol, including vaping.
• Discuss car safety, including their responsibilities as the driver and passenger.
• Get to know your child’s friends.
