EGPD to Increase Police Presence During the Holidays
An increased number of officers will patrol shopping areas throughout the city during this holiday season—a time when there’s an uptick in criminal activity around retail centers. Officers will be in marked patrol vehicles, unmarked vehicles, and on foot. This proactive approach is designed to reduce crime, increase visibility, and educate the community on how to be more careful, prepared, and aware. Help report suspicious activity by calling 714-5115.
ELK GROVE HONORS ITS
Veterans
An estimated 9,000 veterans call Elk Grove home. To honor our residents who have served in the United States Armed Forces, the Elk Grove City Council has established special programs and will construct the City’s first Veterans Hall. Military Street Banner Program
Banners adorning streetlights along Elk Grove Boulevard and Civic Center Drive between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive honor Elk Grove’s veterans. The banners, which are displayed for one year, feature retired or honorably discharged members of the United States Armed Forces residing in Elk Grove, or those who resided in Elk Grove and are now deceased. Businesses or individuals may sponsor a military street banner honoring a veteran for a $150 fee. Applications are accepted year round. For more information, visit elkgrovecity.org/banners.
Street Naming Program
Honor veterans and public safety workers through the Veteran and Public Safety Street Naming Program. Street signs include an emblem indicating veterans’ branch of service. Get more details on this program at elkgrovecity.org/streetsign.
New Veterans Hall Coming
A new Community Center, which includes a Veterans Memorial Hall, Veterans Grove, and Senior Center, is being constructed as part of the Civic Center Master Plan. The Veteran’s Grove, with military flag display, is scheduled for completion May 2018. Building designs for the Veterans Hall and Senior Center are expected to be finalized before the end of the year, with project completion targeted for 2019.
Take charge of your own safety when shopping. EGPD offers these holiday safety tips:
