From Reactive to Proactive: A New Era for Code Enforcement

Exciting changes are coming to Code Enforcement!

In addition to investigating complaints, the team is hitting the streets year-round to tackle common violations that impact your neighborhoods. Think of it as a neighborhood refresh addressing concerns like overgrown weeds, storage of junk and rubbish visible from the street, inoperable vehicles, and other public nuisances that impact our quality of life. The overall intent is to keep Elk Grove looking its best.

The goal? Voluntary compliance and education before enforcement. When a violation is identified, property owners will receive an informational notice with clear corrective steps, a reinspection date, and a door hanger listing helpful City resources. No surprises, just solutions! If the issue isn’t resolved, formal enforcement measures like administrative orders and citations will follow. By taking this proactive approach, Code Enforcement is making it easier for residents to maintain their properties while keeping Elk Grove safe, clean, and vibrant.

Protecting Elk Grove: Fire Department Expands Readiness Efforts

The Cosumnes Fire Department has proudly served the Elk Grove community since 1893, protecting residents and businesses through preparedness, prevention, and timely emergency response. Following the devastating January 7, 2025, fires in Los Angeles County, the Department assessed its disaster response capabilities, particularly focusing on fire and water supply. A meeting with local water agencies evaluated water storage capacities, hydrant placement, and inspection procedures. Our assessment confirmed many strengths, including a sufficient water supply, well-placed hydrants, and strategically positioned emergency personnel. One area for improvement was hydrant inspection frequency, which had been set at every three years. To enhance fire readiness, the Elk Grove Water District will now align with the ISO standard of annual inspections. Thanks to Measure E, we were able to add 15 emergency response personnel and establish Fire Station 77 in 2024, strengthening our ability to serve the community. As Elk Grove continues to grow, the Fire Department will grow responsibly with the community. We encourage all residents to stay informed and prepared by registering their phone numbers with Sacramento County’s Emergency Notification System, Sacramento Alert. Find more information at sacramentoready.org.

Reduce Fire Risks: Clear Weeds and Debris Before Summer

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of fires especially in areas where dry weeds and overgrown vegetation can quickly become fuel for flames. Keeping your property clear of dry grass, weeds, and debris not only helps prevent fires but also keeps our neighborhoods clean and safe. Even in the city, vacant lots, sidewalks, alleys, and yards can accumulate overgrown vegetation that pose a fire hazard. Take action now to reduce risks before the peak of fire season.

Here’s how you can help:

• Remove dry weeds and overgrown grass — Keep vegetation trimmed and dispose of clippings properly.

• Clear sidewalks and alleys — Maintain the areas around your home, business, or rental property.

• Keep yards and patios fire-safe – Store flammable items away from buildings and remove dead plants or leaves.

• Report problem areas — If you notice overgrown lots or other fire hazards, report your concerns on the See Click Fix Elk Grove mobile app or online at elkgrove.gov.

By taking these simple steps, we can all help protect our homes, businesses, and public spaces. For more information on local vegetation management efforts, visit cosumnescsd.gov.
