Flood Control
As part of our storm drain and flood control system, our streets are designed to allow water to flow into storm drains, through pipes, and then out into our local detention basins, creeks, and channels – eventually making its way to the Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge floodplain and the Cosumnes and Mokelumne Rivers. When leaves and other debris interrupt the flow, it can result in flooding. To help prevent flooding around your home and on our streets, inspect the drain near your property, clearing any leaves, trash, and other debris from the drain and placing it in your organics cart. Keep in mind that debris should never be washed down the drain. If you notice a clogged storm drain or drainage problem, report it by calling the 24-hour Public Works hotline at 916-687-3005.
