NEWSLETTER Anticipate Rain: Maintain Your Drain

Veterans Day | November 11

On this day, we, as a nation, recognize and give thanks to the military personnel who put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms. In Elk Grove, celebrating and honoring our veterans extends beyond this single day. From the gathering spaces at District56 dedicated to our veterans and where flags representing each branch of service are proudly displayed to our military street banner and street naming programs, the esteem and honor that veterans hold in the hearts of the Elk Grove community is everlasting. Annual Veterans Day Parade For the health and safety of our oldest veterans, this event has been canceled. Military Street Banner Program Banners honoring our residents who have served in the military adorn streetlights along Elk Grove Boulevard and Civic Center Drive between Big Horn Boulevard and Laguna Springs Drive. To learn more or to sponsor a banner, visit elkgrovecity.org/banners. Applications are accepted year-round. Veteran and Public Safety Street Naming Program Street signs recognize those whose service went above and beyond the standard call of duty and include a symbol indicating their applicable branch of service. This program is open to military veterans, firefighters, and police officers. To learn more, visit elkgrovecity.org/streetsign or scan the code to watch a video.

Some of our region’s biggest storms roll in between December and February. Now is the time to check your storm drains to help prevent flooding around your home and on our streets. Here’s what you can do: • Keep storm drains clear of leaves and debris— never wash debris down the drain. • Place leaves and other yard debris in your green waste container—not in the street. • Have more green waste than container space? Call Republic Services at 916-635-2500 to request an additional cart; residents can have up to three green waste carts without additional charge. Green waste can also be taken to the Recycle Area at the Special Waste Collection Center (9255 Disposal Lane) free of charge. • Report a clogged storm drain or stormwater drainage problem by calling the Public Works 24-hour hotline at 916-687-3005.

Learn more by visiting City Drainage Engineering and Operations and Maintenance staff at the NeighborGood Market on November 4 or visit elkgrovecity.org/storm.
