What’s Next for the Zoo Project
The collaboration between the City of Elk Grove and the Sacramento Zoological Society continues after recent studies demonstrate the feasibility of a modern zoological park in Elk Grove. Now the planning process begins! This phase of work includes master planning, an environmental impact review, and a financing and operating plan. Based on the results of those efforts, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) could be developed to memorialize the plans between the two agencies. These next steps are estimated to take 24 to 30 months to complete and will require additional action from the City Council to proceed further. Extensive opportunities for public review and comment will be a part of this process. To learn more and receive notifications about future opportunities to participate in the project, visit elkgrovecity.org/zoo.

Lending a Helping Hand Program Supports Minor Home Repairs for Low-income Homeowners
The recently revised Minor Home Repairs program now provides up to $15,000 for low-income homeowners to pay for repairs to maintain the health and safety of their homes. Repairs such as HVAC replacements, new water heaters, new roofs, and accessibility improvements can be financed through this program as a zero-interest forgivable loan. The homeowner pays nothing as long as they are living in the house—10% of the original loan amount is forgiven each year, and after 10 years the entire loan amount is forgiven. The program is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant Program. For more information, visit elkgrovecity.org/housingrepair.
