From the Mayor

Thank you. Two simple words that pack a powerful punch, yet are often taken for granted. For the past 23 years, the last 12 as your Mayor, has been the best experience of my life. It’s been an honor and privilege to serve you, and thank you for entrusting me to lead this city. Our city.

Buckeye has grown, changed and adapted over the years, but has always stayed true to our Western heritage through it all. Since March, we have adapted to an almost entirely online world with limited face-to-face conservations, except with our immediate family members. But, we have persevered, and stepped up to help our neighbors and support our local businesses.

That is what makes Buckeye so special. You. Your families. Your sense of Mayor community. It is what I will miss the most about being Mayor of Buckeye.

While I will no longer be Mayor after Nov. 17, I promise to remain active in the community and will be attending many events and meetings in person, when it’s safe to do so. There is still so much to do, but my priorities will shift to spending time with my family first.

Thank you for your support these past 23 years. For sharing your concerns, hardships and suggestions for making Buckeye a better place to live and raise a family. Thank you for bringing fresh perspectives to the table, for creating partnerships and streamlining business practices. Being Mayor and serving on the Buckeye City Council is the best job in the world, and I was fortunate to be a part of it for 23 years. Thank you.

From the Mayor-Elect For the past ten years, I’ve been a member of Buckeye’s City Council, representing District 6. During that time, I was fortunate to serve under Mayor Jackie Meck, a Buckeye native with an amazing perspective and forwardthinking attitude who led this city to excellence.

Thanks to Mayor Meck’s leadership, Buckeye is fiscally responsible and financial stable. We are attracting new employers, creating more jobs and investing in education. All of these factors played a huge role in making Buckeye the second fastest growing city in the U.S. for the past ten years.

As your new Mayor, I will continue to focus on bringing more quality employers to the city, attract more retail and services for you, and continue to improve your quality of life.

PLANTS OF THE SONORAN DESERT NATURE HIKE Join us on an informative hike focused on plants commonly found in Skyline Regional Park. This stop and learn presentation will offer interesting facts about plants and their special adaptations to life in the arid Sonoran Desert. YOGA HIKE Take a scenic hike in the mountains at Skyline with yoga integrated throughout it. We will be starting and ending with yoga as well as making a few stops along the way to do mini-sequences of poses. Each stop will focus on a different main chakra (energy centers in the body) starting at the root and finishing with the crown, and the in-between hiking will incorporate various mindfulness techniques culminating in an overall experience that rejuvenates the body, mind, and spirit.

This is a beginner level for all aspects so everyone is welcome. Advance registration is required and limited.

Kids The B.A.S.E. program provides a safe and exciting place for children enrolled in Kindergarten – 8th grade, to be in during out-of-school time. The mission of the Kid’s B.A.S.E. program is to provide an environment that keeps youth safe while preparing them for success. Our creative programming will enhance selfconfidence, self-expression, social skills and cognitive skills while keeping youth physically active. B.A.S.E. is located at various Buckeye Elementary School District campuses and is state licensed and regulated by the Arizona Department of Health Services. Program sites are open on early release days. Program accepts DES funding; if fee assistance is needed please contact the Department of Economic Security at 623-925-0095.

Lil Squirts will be going virtual! Parents will be able to choose from 3 time slots which will be 1 hour each. Time slots will be capped at 10 participants each and you can only sign up for one. Lil’ Squirts Preschool is the perfect environment for your child to learn, grow and make friends as they participate in various activities such as arts and crafts, group games, creativity development, music, imaginative play and developing language skills.

Lil Squirts is a licensed program and is offered virtually. Registration is first-come, first-served.

The program will be closed for national and school holidays as well as for Fall, Winter and Spring Breaks.

Virtual Lil’ Squirts can only be completed online. When registering your child for Lil Squirts, make sure you are logged in to our website and your child is in your household. Once on the registration page, you will first click the calendar icon next to the time slot your child will attend. Once the calendar comes up, select each day of your child’s first week of attendance and add to cart. Go to checkout and pay using a debit/credit card. You will receive a receipt AND a fillable fee contract and discipline form via email. Fill out the form and email it to clancaster@buckeyeaz.gov. City of Buckeye Recreation staff will then add in the remainder of your child’s schedule for the duration of the Lil Squirts Preschool program.

Children are introduced to fundamental concepts of game-play and provided the basic skills required to score with confidence in a supportive, non-competitive environment. VOLLEYBALL Bump, Set, Spike! Certified Sportball coaches develop competence and confidence teaching the fundamental skills necessary to excel in Volleyball. CHILDCARE & BABYSITTING SAFETY This course is an introduction to supervising, caring, and keeping children and infants safe in babysitting settings. The program provides fundamental information in the business of babysitting, proper supervision, basic caregiving skills, and responding properly to ill or injured children or infants. Participants will learn diapering, feeding, with an introduction to CPR & First Aid. Students receive a two-year Child and Babysitting Safety certification upon successful completion of the class and a workbook (included).

BLENDED CPR & FIRST AID Increase your First Aid knowledge in topics such as bleeding, shock, and burns and learn Adult, Child, and Infant CPR. This blended learning course involves 2.5 hours at home web-based learning and 1.5 hours of in-person classroom training. This course satisfies OSHA and state childcare licensing requirements. 2-year certifications will be issued after the success completion of both the web-based learning and in-person skills portion. DAILY MEAL PROGRAMS The Buckeye Senior Program offers two meal programs for residents age 60+.

• The congregate lunch program is served Monday – Friday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., and is available via curbside pickup. Recommended contribution is $3.00; guests under 60 are $5.00. A monthly menu is available online.

• Home delivered meals are provided to individuals that are home bound. It is recommended that home delivered meal clients contact the Area Agency on Aging Senior Help-Line at (602) 264-HELP(4357). In addition, the Buckeye Senior Program offers private pay home delivered meals for residents aged 60+ for a cost of $5.00 per meal.

VIRTUAL MONTHLY SERIES

Join us daily on the Buckeye Senior Center Facebook page for a fun opportunity to learn something new, receive tips and much more. Series topic will change each month and will be featured daily. BINGO Registered Buckeye Senior Program participants are invited to join us for Bingo via Facebook Live, every Friday at 1p.m. To become a participant, please call us at (623) 349-6600. Sanitized bingo cards can be pickedup at the Senior Center, 201 E. Centre Ave., on weekdays between 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. with a reservation made no later than 1:30 a.m. on game day. Alternatively, printable bingo cards can be sent via email. Requests for bingo cards can be made via phone or email at seniorprogram@buckeyeaz.gov.

ARTS & CRAFTS KITS Craft tutorials are posted on Facebook twice a month.

Consult Center Connection Newsletter for dates and times. An ad with craft details will be posted on the Buckeye Senior Center Facebook page showing what type of craft we will be doing, when the tutorial will air and when to pick up the kits. Craft kits are available to registered senior participants at no charge on a first come, first serve basis. Supplies are limited.

NEVER TOO OLD Join us for the new virtual series, Never Too Old, to learn something new. Twice a month there is an opportunity to learn tech tip tutorials to keep you connected. – 5 p.m. Express Service includes the following services and guidelines: 1. Grab & Go material selection with shelf-checkout service, material selection limited to 1 hour.

2. Limited computer use – sessions are limited to 1 hour per day per customer, first come, first served basis. Self-serve printing, faxing and copying are also available for a fee.

3. Lounge areas, room rentals, study areas and outdoor patios will remain closed.

4. Customers are required to wear masks and respect social distancing guidelines while in the library.
