Dear American Canyon Community,
As we move into the warmer months, I want to take a moment to share some important updates and reminders as we prepare for summer here in American Canyon.
This month, our crews participated in an in-depth boat operations training. This hands-on training focused on enhancing our team’s skills in boat maneuverability and operator responsibilities. These exercises are critical in ensuring we ’ re ready to respond effectively to water-related emergencies within our community and the surrounding areas. I’m proud of the dedication our team continues to show in honing their technical skills to keep everyone safe.
With summer just around the corner, our Fire Prevention Bureau is ramping up weed abatement efforts. We ask all residents to do their part by clearing dry grasses, brush, and other combustible vegetation from their properties. This not only protects your home but helps prevent the rapid spread of wildfires.

SUCCESS WITHSAFETY May is Electrical Safety Month!
Protect your home and family with these essential electrical fire safety tips:
Inspect cords and plugs regularly. Replace any that are frayed, cracked, or damaged. Never run cords under rugs or furniture. Don’t overload outlets. Plug only one high-wattage appliance into each outlet to reduce the risk of overheating. Use extension cords safely. These are for temporary use only never as a permanent wiring solution.
Unplug when not in use. Disconnect small appliances and chargers to prevent potential sparks or overheating. Install safety devices. Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) and Ground-Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) help prevent fires and shocks.
Keep flammable items away. Maintain at least 3 feet of clearance around heat-producing appliances and outlets. Call a licensed electrician. Leave electrical repairs or upgrades to qualified professionals.
Test smoke alarms monthly. Working smoke alarms provide critical early warning in the event of an electrical fire.
Use space heaters carefully. Plug them directly into the wall never into an extension cord—and keep them at least 3 feet from anything that can burn.
Check your light bulbs. Use the correct wattage for your fixtures to prevent overheating.
Electrical safety is fire safety. Take time this May to check your home and stay fire-smart all year long!
