INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION PROGRAMMES The International Foundation Programme is a one-year academic programme designed to prepare you for undergraduate study in the UK. It provides academic preparation for first year entry into university and ensures you meet the minimum English language requirement for entry to your chosen undergraduate degree programme. International Foundation Programme

Successful completion of the International Foundation Programme will give you a qualification recognised by HE institutions and will allow you to progress on to a degree level course at Universities across the UK.

Art & Design

Biomedical Sciences

Explore the breadth and diversity of the subject to develop a wide range of art and design skills, techniques and processes.

Biomedical Science represents an opportunity to put scientific knowledge into practical use and perform a key role within medical healthcare.

This course has an excellent track record of placing students at prestigious universities and art colleges in the UK.

This course offers progression on to university level study in Biological or Biomedical Sciences.

Business & Enterprise

Business & Management

This course is designed to help you to develop knowledge and skills across a broad spectrum of topics such as law, marketing, finance, starting a small business, and entrepreneurship.

Develop skills to help you succeed in the field of Business and Management. You will explore topics such as marketing, business practices, employment and the economic environment.

An accepted entrance qualification to study university level business related courses.

This course offers progression on to university level study in Business related courses.

Computing

Humanities & Social Sciences

An accepted entrance qualification to study university level Computer Science Degrees.

For students who are interested in politics, current affairs, and issues such as power, class, gender and race in contemporary society.

Suitable for students who want to go on to further study in the diverse areas of Artificial Intelligence, Networked Systems, Software Engineering, Digital Games Production and Computing for Business and Management.

This course offers progression on to a wide range of Humanities degrees.

Media, Literature & Culture

Psychology

For students who are interested in a career in the creative and media industries.

You will develop knowledge and skills across a broad spectrum of Psychology related topics.

This is an accepted entrance qualification for degree courses Literature, Media Studies, Film Studies, Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, Social/ Cultural Anthropology, Sociology and History.

This course offers progression on to university level study in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Mental Health work, Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Humanities, Anthropology and Counselling.


ENGLISH & ACADEMIC STUDIES COMPULSORY MODULE Throughout the course you will study alongside other International students to improve your English and obtain study skills required to progress on to university. Key areas of study: • Academic grammar and vocabulary • Research, analysis and referencing • Writing and note taking, you will build a portfolio of academic writing tasks and essays throughout the year • Academic discussions and seminars • Successful presentation skills You will receive personal guidance and support through regular tutorial sessions. For students who need to take an IELTS exam to progress to University, an exam and additional IELTS preparation classes can be arranged.* *Additional fees apply

All courses require a minimum English level of B2 (Upper Intermediate) IELTS 5.5 (5.5 in writing) as well as the specific requirements listed below:

ART & DESIGN PATHWAY If you want to pursue a career in Art and Design then this pathway is for you. You will explore the breadth and diversity of the subject. You will experiment with a range of working methodologies to make an informed choice about which aspect of Art and Design you should follow at University.

Study Stage 1 Exploratory assignments and workshops to help you to develop a wide range of transferable art and design skills, techniques and processes. At the end of this stage your work will be assessed to decide which specialist pathway they should follow. The four pathways of study are: • Fine Art • Graphics & Illustration • Fashion & Textiles • 3D Design Stage 2 Develop skills and understanding of the specialist pathway in greater depth. Build a portfolio in preparation for University. Stage 3 You will undertake a self-initiated final major project which culminates in an exhibition at the end of the course. At this stage the work is externally assessed. Historical and Contextual studies run alongside studio practice during stage one and an educational visit to Europe is organised to support both the contextual studies programme and the drawing programme.

Progression The Art and Design Foundation Programme is the preferred progression route to Higher Education Art & Design specialised study. This course has an excellent track record of placing students in prestigious universities and art colleges throughout the UK, such as University of the Arts (Central St Martins); University of Creative Arts; University of Nottingham; University of Brighton; University of Bournemouth.

BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES PATHWAY This pathway is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in Biomedical Sciences. On this course you will learn skills and gain qualifications that can be used across a range of courses within the UK and are recognised worldwide. Biomedical science represents an opportunity to put scientific knowledge into practical use and perform a key role within medical healthcare.

Study Cell Biology, Genetics, Human Physiology, Homeostasis, Biochemical pathways, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Immunology, Foundation Chemistry, Biological Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Independent Research Project, Reviewing and Planning for the Future, Communication and Presentation Skills, Maths for Science, Using ICT for Study & Essay Skills.

Progression Foundation Degrees in Biological Sciences and Degrees in Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, Molecular Medicine, Environmental Science, Nutrition, Genetics, Science Teaching, Forensic Science.


BUSINESS & ENTERPRISE PATHWAY

BUSINESS & MANAGEMENT PATHWAY

This pathway is designed to help you to develop knowledge and skills across a broad spectrum of Business related subjects, such as law, marketing, finance, starting a small business, the economic environment and entrepreneurship. It will prepare you to study a wide range of business related degrees at university and equip you with the skills you need to start your own business.

If you are interested in the world of business and management and want to progress on to university, then this course is for you. It will help you to develop the skills and knowledge to succeed in the field of Business and Management. You will explore topics such as marketing, business practices, employment and the economic environment.

COMPUTING PATHWAY The Computing pathway is ideal if you are interested in pursuing a career in such diverse areas as software and games development, artificial intelligence, network administration or business analysis. This course will equip you with the skills needed to move on to university.

Study Introduction to Programming, Programming – Data Structures and File Handling, Programming – Selection and Repetition, Setting up and populating a set of tables in a database application, Querying and manipulating tables in a database application, From bytes to Buses, Algebra and Graphs, Data Collection and Analysis, Networks, Hardware and Software, Independent Research Project, Reviewing and Planning for the Future, Academic Study Skills, Trigonometry, Essay Skills.

Progression Accepted entrance qualification to Higher Education onto Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Networked Systems, Software Engineering, Digital Games Production and Computing for Business and Management.

HUMANITIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES PATHWAY This pathway is ideal for students who are interested in politics, current affairs, and issues such as power, class, gender and race in contemporary society. This pathway will help you to progress into university level study in Humanities and a career in Local Government, the Civil Service, Trade Unions, Social Services, Voluntary Organisations, Charities or NGOs among others.

Study The course is modular; each separate unit covers a different aspect of contemporary debate. Units are as follows: Introduction to Sociology, Social Stratification, Gender & Race, Literature from the Counter Culture, the Mass Media, Power and Politics, The Victorians: Local History Research, Ethics, Crime and Deviance, Youth and Deviance, Extended Independent Academic Study, Reviewing and Planning for the Future, Communication and Presentation Skills, Critical Thinking, Using IT For Study, Essay Skills.

Progression Accepted entrance qualification to Higher Education onto Humanities degrees such as Politics, Media Studies, History, Anthropology, International Relations, Humanities, Cultural Studies, Criminology, Sociology and Globalisation Studies among others, as well as more vocational degrees such as Journalism.


MEDIA, LITERATURE & CULTURE PATHWAY The Media, Literature and Culture pathway is the perfect choice for students who are interested in a career in the creative and media industries. If you enjoy reading, discussion, literature, poetry, drama, films, media studies, production and filming techniques, culture and counter culture then this course is for you. You will study the impact of culture and media on society and there will also be the opportunity to learn the practical skills involved in video production and to create a media product.

Study The Study of Culture, Media Production, Media Studies, Literature from the Counter Culture, the Pre 20th Century Novel, Poetry and Drama, Narrative Writing, Independent Research Project, Communication and Presentation Skills, Critical Thinking, Reviewing and Planning for the Future, Essay Skills, Using ICT for Study.

Progression Successful completion of this programme enables you to progress onto a diverse range of degree courses including: Literature, Media Studies – with both a practical and/or theoretical focus, Film Studies, Marketing, Advertising, Journalism, Social/ Cultural Anthropology, Sociology and History.

PSYCHOLOGY PATHWAY This pathway is aimed at students who are interested in the academic study of Psychology. You will develop knowledge and skills across a broad spectrum of related topics, such as social behaviour, conformity and obedience, psychopathology and research methods. If you would like to pursue careers in child development or social work, then this course is for you.

Study Social Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Psychopathology, Research Methods and Statistics, Perspective in Psychology, Stress Management, Psychology of Criminal Investigation, Independent Research Project, Reviewing and Planning for Future Study and Work; and Using IT to Support Academic Study.

Progression Degrees in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, Mental Health Work, Criminology, Forensic Psychology, Humanities, Anthropology and Counselling. This is the starting point for a career working with people and/or as a Chartered Psychologist. There are many Divisions of Chartership to aim for at post-graduate level; including Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Research Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Occupational Psychology, Sports Psychology, Psychotherapy, Health Psychology and Educational Psychology.
