Let us be part of your success story.

Employers tell us that they value skills and experience as well as qualifications. Therefore, our courses are designed to give you real-life experience and our facilities reflect that - from our industry-standard training kitchens to specialist electrical facilities, theatre, training restaurant and hair and beauty salons.

Fantastic Student Feedback 97% of our students tell us that they gained the skills they need to progress onto a higher level course or to succeed in their job, that our teaching is good and that they enjoyed their time at City College.

Aiming High - Student Achievement Our students are some of the top achievers in Sussex. Continued year-on-year improvements in our student retention rates and significant increases in the number of our students gaining high grades means City College is in the top 20% of colleges in the country for student achievement.

Progression We have links with hundreds of local employers, and 97% of our students who went on to seek work tell us they’ve secured paid employment. For those aiming to progress to higher education we have excellent working relationships with both our local universities and are the biggest feeder of students into the University of Brighton, meaning we’re ideally placed to help you prepare for degree-level education.

Maths and English The skills involved in English and maths underpin everything you do in your adult life. Employers and universities recognise that having a GCSE grade C or higher in English language and maths provides them with a strong indication of a basic level of ability that they are looking for. If you do not achieve a grade C in maths and English language at school, then at least half a day per week of your course will consist of an English or maths class. If you enrol on a Level 1 course you will work towards a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification in both English and maths. Level 1 students who have a grade D in either English language or maths will be given the opportunity to gain a grade C. If you enrol on a Level 2/3 course you will work towards either a GCSE Maths or a GCSE English Language qualification. The English & Maths team offers Functional Skills qualifications as a ‘stepping stone’ towards GCSE in both English and maths for those students with a GCSE grade E or below. Studying English and maths is an integral part of your programme of study at the College. Our specialist English or maths lecturers will work with you to identify which is the best qualification, subject and level for you, based on your previous study and the relevance to your vocational course. We will also provide specialist additional support, both in and outside the lesson, to those of you who need some extra help. If you are exempt from this part of the programme of study, you will be required to be involved in the other ‘Getting Involved’ activities outlined below. You will need to provide evidence of all GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications attained prior to starting at City College, no matter what the grade or level.
