Unit of Inquiry This week, students

Language Creating opportuni-

used their knowledge of writing to describe to create text for the final unit project. Using a paragraph structure, students explained their understanding of the central idea, the unit concept and reflected on what learning means to them. We will publish our text, MindMaps and artwork from this unit in an eBook in ICT. laboration with ICT class.

ties for reading will be a focus for the language program in PYP 5. Similar to DEAR time of previous years, students will be given class time to experience reading in different contexts - quiet, independent reading, read-aloud by the teacher or another student, buddy reading with a partner, and Reader’s Theater. Reading strategies taught to the students in minilesson format can then be applied and reinforced during these reading opportunities. Students are encouraged to experiment with reading more than one book at a time. Students who have not tried this before can begin by adding a short, simple text to their weekly reading.

have made their first fine book reports this year. They have made experiments challenging the 5 different senses and now they are writing a letter to the Emperor of the Land of Senses, to urge him to give back the senses to all the animals he took them away from.

PE

On monday the 26th of September work will begin on the gym floor which means the facility will not be available for daily classes. Instead we will be using the tent which is being constructed this week and should be ready for classes on Monday. For practical purposes the students will still need to wear their gym shoes for lessons as we need to ensure the floor is kept clean and useable for the duration. Students will also need to have more appropriate PE clothing, the temperatures will be considerably colder and they need clothing that will keep them warm.

Art

PYP 5 have been inquiring into Pop Art and how it connects to the world around us. They have been discussing works by Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol and are currently creating art in reponse to these discussions.
