Certificate

A Certificate of Completion is awarded if 100% attendance is attained and course requirements are met for all short-term healthcare classes; this includes Fire, EMT, STNA, and CPR courses. Other career certification programs have 90% attendance requirements (more details on the first day of class). Courses listed as Personal Enrichment will not receive a certificate of completion.

Cancellation and Other Policies

Register early! If appropriate class size is not met, the class could be canceled. Class end dates may vary due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather. Please visit https:// adults.greatoaks.com/general-info/policies for more information about cancellation and other policies.

Senior Citizens

Individuals 60 or older may be eligible to receive a discount for certain classes costing $100 or more in tuition, applied after the book and/or material costs are subtracted from the course fee. You must register in person with photo ID the first time.

Children

Students 16 years of age and older can register for any of our

part-time personal enrichment classes. In addition, anyone under 16 years of age interested in challenging themselves and learning something new is welcome to register for any online classes. Unfortunately, we cannot allow anyone under the age of 16 to be in attendance in our classrooms or the building during adult education classes.

School Closing for Weather

Adult evening class cancellations will be announced prior to 3 pm (or as soon as possible). Please listen to local radio stations and TV broadcasts or visit www. greatoaks.com for updates.

Refund Policy for ShortTerm and Other Classes

Short-Term Classes: A refund will be issued to anyone who withdraws before the start of the second class. No refund after the second class has started. A processing fee of $15 along with any book fees will be deducted from this cost. If the class is canceled due to low enrollment, no processing fee will be charged.

EMT Classes: Full refunds will be issued when a class is canceled by the Adult Education Department or fees may be applied to another class. No refunds will be issued after the first class meeting unless otherwise noted. Books and supplies/materials are non-refundable.

Online Classes through Great Oaks

Firearms Classes: Cancellations/ transfers must be received no later than 48 hours before the start of class; otherwise a $50 cancellation fee will be assessed. If an individual is a No Show for a class, only 50% of the course fee will be refunded.

Motorcycle Classes: There are no refunds of the $50 registration fee. Students may re-schedule a class by calling (513) 612-5847 to request a change to a later class.

Computer 1- & 2-Day Seminar

Classes: A $50 cancellation fee will be charged unless a cancellation is received no later than 48 hours before the start of class.

Web, Multimedia, and Graphic and IT Fundamental Programs: A $150 cancellation fee will be charged unless a cancellation is received no later than 48 hours before the start of class.

WorkKeys: There are no refunds available for WorkKeys registration. If you need to change your test date and you contact us at (513) 771-8881, option 1, at least 24 hours before your scheduled test, we are able to offer a one-time transfer to a future test date. If we don’t hear from you at least 24 hours before your scheduled test date, we are unable to offer a transfer.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

This 140-hour program includes classroom lectures, hands-on labs, and an 80-hour clinical externship. Students will train to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes, among other things, preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, and diagnostic testing. Students will review important topics, including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology (including proper lead placements), and the legal considerations of healthcare.

EKG Technician

This comprehensive 50-hour EKG Technician Certification program prepares students to function as EKG technicians and take the National Healthcareer Association Certified EKG Technician (CET) Certification Exam. This course will include important practice and background information on anatomy and physiology of the heart, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, electrocardiograph, and echocardiography. Additionally, students will practice with EKG equipment and perform hands-on labs, including an introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement, and other clinical practices. Ophthalmic Assistant

This 50-hour program prepares a student for an entry-level position in the field of vision healthcare. Ophthalmic assistants are essential team members in any vision clinic. Specially trained to support ophthalmologists, they perform many day-to-day tasks, such as taking patient histories, administering routine eye exams, performing ocular measurements, and patient education. In this program, students learn anatomy and physiology of the eye and diseases, general principles of pharmacology; prescriptions written for the eye; visual acuity, optometry (basic), and glaucoma through classroom lectures and labs. It also includes a review of ocular dressing procedures, maintenance of equipment and instruments, and other areas. Pharmacy Technician

This 50-hour course combines academic and hands-on classroom instruction and an 80-hour externship. The program prepares students to work as pharmacy technicians under a registered pharmacist’s supervision in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other healthcare settings and to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. The course covers: identifying the top 200 drugs by generic and brand names, pharmacy medical terminology, reading and

interpreting prescriptions, dosage calculations and conversion, aseptic techniques, dispensing medications, inventory control, billing, and reimbursement. Great Oaks offers this program through a partnership with Condensed Curriculum International (CCI).

Phlebotomy Technician

Become a vital member of the clinical laboratory team, whose primary function is to obtain patients’ blood specimens by venipuncture and micro collection for testing. This 90-hour course combines academic and hands-on classroom instruction with a 40-hour clinical externship. Students will learn terminology and related anatomy and physiology, the process and procedures for collecting blood specimens for laboratory analysis, cleaning and sterilizing equipment, standard precautions, and skills to perform venipuncture safely. Successful course completion will qualify students to take the National Healthcareer Association certification exam to become Certified Phlebotomy Technicians. Phlebotomists are employed throughout the healthcare system, including hospitals, medical group practices, HMOs, public health facilities, veteran hospitals, insurance carriers, and other healthcare settings. State Tested Nurse Assistant (STNA)

This 13-day course combines academic, hands-on classroom instruction and 16 hours of clinical experience. Students will train to assist nurses by performing functions related to basic nursing skills and activities of daily living, such as personal hygiene, dressing, and feeding residents and patients. Students who successfully complete the training are eligible to take the Ohio Department of Health Nurse Aide exam. Once a student successfully passes the state test, they are placed on the nurse aide registry and qualify to work as a State Tested Nursing Assistant in long-term care facilities, home care, assisted living facilities, hospices, and hospitals.

Aspire English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Classes

Aspire English (ESOL) classes are free to adult students who need to improve English skills in order to prepare for college or an adult certificate-training program or to get a better job. Classes include practice in speaking, reading, listening, and writing.

Consistent classroom attendance is required. Students must be at least 19 years old to attend.

Before starting ESOL classes, all students must attend a registration.

The Adult Diploma Program (ADP) provides job training and a different pathway for adults to earn a high school diploma and an industry credential aligned to one of Ohio’s in-demand jobs.

This program is open to adults 20 years old or older who can prove Ohio residency and who have not earned a high school diploma from any state or country.

Aspire High School Equivalency (HSE) Classes

Aspire HSE classes are FREE to adult students who need to prepare for a High School Equivalency test (GED® or HiSET®), get ready to go to college or an adult certificatetraining program, gain employment, or enhance workplace skills.

Classes are offered at many convenient locations.

Before starting HSE classes, all students must attend an information session at one of

our convenient locations. Consistent classroom attendance is required.

Students who are 16, 17, or 18 years old must have official withdrawal documentation from their home district or evidence of a high school diploma. Documentation of official withdrawal from school must be submitted prior to enrollment—call (513) 612-5806. Valid government-issued photo ID or passport required at check-in.
