Welcome to the latest edition of the StandOut Temporary Structures Guide. We have been hard at work gathering information and advice on the best of the best when it comes to temporary event structures.
Admittedly, it’s been a while since we produced the last Temporary Structures Guide but we felt the time was right to bring you this guide once more.
Why? Because StandOut magazine spends so much time on-site, surrounded by a plethora of colourful and interesting structures. From big tops and framed marquees to timber domes and triple-deck hospitality structures. Each structure is different but they all serve a purpose: to enhance the guest experience and make your event or festival stand out.
We have created this guide with support from MUTA so you’ll find expert opinion and guidance from those in the know. Plus, you’ll also discover a host of features from experienced suppliers that work hard to support event organisers across the globe.
This guide truly contains everything an event professionals needs to know to get their temporary infrastructure right, on time, every time. Savour this useful guide and if you have a colleague that you think would find it useful too, please share it with them. It really is a treasure trove of information that highlights some wonderful best practices and what you can do with innovative and creative structures. I think I speak for everyone when we say, the possibilities really are endless.
Happy reading, Caroline

MUTA is the UK’s only trade association dedicated to marquees, tents, and structures. Here, Lee Dalton, president of MUTA, discusses market conditions, best practices, and how organisers can work with event suppliers to increase efficiencies
ow would you describe the events market?
Resilient, dynamic, and evolving rapidly. Post-pandemic demand remains strong, with a clear appetite for live experiences. High profile occasions like the Chelsea Flower Show, Glastonbury, and Wimbledon showcase what our industry has to offer. Other events like festivals, shows, gatherings, and weddings may not attract the same attention but these all get the same level of detail. However, growth is coupled with pressure points like rising costs, skills shortages, and tighter timelines. Plus, environmental concerns are all reshaping how events are planned and delivered.
What challenges are temporary structure and marquee providers facing and how do they impact organisers and the wider market? One of the biggest challenges is cost inflation – materials, transport, fuel, and labour are
all significantly more expensive. This puts pressure on margins and can limit availability during peak periods. There’s also increasing demand for sustainability, which requires investment in greener practices.
All of this results in tighter lead times, potential cost increases and a greater need to work with reputable companies (like MUTA members) who can deliver under pressure without compromising on safety and quality.
MUTA represents marquee and temporary structure providers. What general advice would you give to organisers looking to hire a temporary structure in the current climate? Plan early and prioritise professionalism. Choose a MUTA member – members must follow our industry-leading Best Practice Guide, are regularly audited (see page 16), and carry the necessary insurances and documentation. Early engagement helps secure the right structure, but it also allows time for proper site
assessments, planning permissions if needed, and contingency planning. It’s about setting your event up for success from day one.
What questions should an organiser be asking of their chosen hirer?
Start with: are you a MUTA member? Then ask about insurance, experience with similar events, and health and safety policies. Ask how they assess wind loading and ground conditions. Enquire about the quality and age of their equipment, and their contingency plans for adverse weather. A good provider will welcome these questions.
Everyone in the events industry understands that costs are rising. What can organisers and structure providers do to create efficiencies? Communication is key. Share accurate event details and timelines early. Site access, terrain, crew welfare, and scheduling all affect delivery efficiency.
Coordinating delivery times with other contractors can reduce duplication and transport costs. Ultimately, transparency and collaboration between organisers and contractors yields the best results.
Adverse weather is affecting many events. What are structure companies doing in terms of innovation to help make events safer?
Adverse weather is one of the biggest risks our industry faces. Particularly strong winds. The consequences can be catastrophic with damage to buildings, vehicles and most importantly the risk to anyone in the vicinity.
In addition to pull tests, real-time wind monitoring and digital site assessments are becoming standard practice. We’re noticing more comprehensive wind management plans. However, these need to be communicated to all parties.
Event suppliers would all love organisers to book the equipment they need early. But putting that aside, what’s your best practice advice for anyone looking to hire a great structure supplier?
Do your research – don’t just go on price. Look for proven experience, quality of kit, safety record, and flexibility.
Site visits are invaluable, as is checking references. Use a provider that will partner with you to understand the full context of your event, not just deliver a structure. And above all, insist on clear documentation – contracts, risk assessments, and method statements are there to protect everyone involved.
You don't need to look anywhere else... this is the most excellent company to work with!

Looking to hire a temporary structure for your next event or project? If you’re an event organiser, brand manager or live event agency looking for the right structure, consider the following points before you make your choice
f you strive to organise the very best event for your audience then you will know how important it is to choose the right venue and suppliers to deliver the very best experience for your guests. Whether you decide to hire a permanent event space or hire a temporary venue, one fact remains the same – first impressions count.
When it comes to choosing a structure, events professionals have plenty of options available. From traditional marquees to stretch tents, inflatable dome structures, modular units and colourful big tops, organisers have a myriad of possibilities open to them.
So how do you choose?
Traditional marquees, such as rope and pole tents, use either PVC-coated polyester or cotton fabric covers, and lend themselves well to events that have short build periods. Compared to larger frame and clear span structures, traditional marquees are also a much cheaper option, which is why you will often see them at private events and agricultural shows.
In complete contrast, inflatable structures use air pressure and a combination of air beams, truss or cellular walls to keep the structures upright. Inflatable temporary structures are popular with brands because they are an eye catching, cost effective solution that can be easily branded and installed in as little as ten minutes. It makes them a great option for brands that know who and where their target
audience will be so they can pop up in front of them and engage.
Stretch tents use a stretchy fabric that is anchored at its corners and along its sides before poles of varying lengths are pushed up to create a variety of shapes – the use of stretchy fabric and poles enables a number of abstract shapes to be made, which then provide a welcome canvas for guests to take shelter under. The fabric used to create stretch tents often comes in a range of colours, which allows organisers to push the creative boundaries.
Truss that is shaped to look like a Pringle and then covered in tensioned PVC forms the basis of a Saddlespan structure. Saddlespan structures are used by organisers as stage covers, as guest shelters and even as alternatives to large marquees because they can be linked together to create extremely large structures for huge graduation ceremonies or massive dinner parties.
In 2005, Nordic tipis were introduced into the UK rental market. They are created using natural materials and are popular with festivals and organisers of corporate events. A combination of timber and canvas are used to create the structures, which are linkable. The ability to scale up or down means they are a popular option with weddings and private parties, too.
Frame marquees are made up of a semirigid frame, often aluminium, which is then covered by synthetic fabric. This type of structure has a solid frame so it can feature rigid side panels, solid doors and more sophisticated flooring systems. These structures, which comprise box section aluminium, are often referred to as clear span marquees, because they do not feature central pole supports.
Large-scale event organisers and corporate hospitality providers will be familiar with multideck structures that often stand two, three of even four stories high. Double and triple deck structures are regularly seen at sporting events, such as golf and horse racing, because they offer fans unrivalled views of all the event action. The top floor of a multi-deck structure is essentially a clear span aluminium frame tent that sits on top of structures, benefitting from steel uprights and a horizontal beam system to ensure stability and high levels of safety.
Organisers looking to source such temporary structures should consider the following:
• Ask to see evidence that the contractor complies with nationally-recognised standards for the safe building of structures. MUTA, the trade association for the marquee and temporary structure industry, requires its members to follow MUTA’s Best Practice Guide, which is also recognised by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). This guidance sets out essential health and safety requirements. While MUTA membership and compliance are not a legal requirement, they do help ensure that contractors are adhering to the law on health and safety standards within the marquee industry. This means it can be seen as a stamp of approval when it comes to choosing your contractor.
• Check your contractor’s health and safety policy, risk assessments, and compliance certificates. Also, are the staff they use competent? This is vital given that many event sites now fall under CDM Regulations 2015.
• Anchorages – one of the most critical aspects to the stability and safety of fabric structures is the anchorage. This can either be in the form of ground anchors, where particular attention should be paid to the pull out force that the anchor can withstand, or where ground penetration is not possible, ballast weights. Ballast weights (commonly known as kentledge) can be a major cause for concern especially for smaller lightweight structures. Integrated floors do assist with the ballast of a fabric
structure but it is very unlikely to meet the full load requirements without additional weight. Make sure that your contractors are fully experienced and understand the relevant requirements.
• Take the weather into account – ask your preferred temporary structure provider what weather conditions a structure can be used in. MUTA has published comprehensive guidance on managing strong wind conditions. This includes advice on responsibilities, what information manufacturers should provide and how to produce a robust wind management plan.
• All completed structures should be subjected to a thorough inspection by the contractor before being signed off and handed over to the client.
• Ask your chosen, or potential, temporary structure provider for testimonials and see what experiences other businesses have had.
• Is your event being held in the heat of the summer sun or during the winter
months? Make sure the company you choose can fit your structure with adequate air conditioning or heating.
• Think about what the final structure will look light? Can the structure be illuminated with lighting? Can it be branded? Can your chosen supplier print your logo onto the canopy of the structure?
• Do a site visit. Meet your favourite suppliers at your chosen location and then ask them to provide you with CAD drawings to give you an idea of what your structure will look like. Go to the meeting armed with a list of questions and requirements and consider all aspects from length of build to how that supplier looks after and maintains their stock. There’s nothing worse than a tired looking marquee.

Temporary structure providers detail the information they would love to see in the perfect event brief
Are you guilty of copying and pasting last year’s event details into this year’s tender document? Hands up. Be honest. As an industry, we know it happens. But if you’re looking to use a temporary structure for your event, and you want your guests to have the best experience possible then your event briefs, tender documents, and suppliers, deserve some proper time and attention.
Why? Not all structures are the same. They all serve different purposes and are suited to different environments. So StandOut asked several event suppliers – that specialise in different types of structures – what they would like to see in their dream event brief and what they would like organisers to consider.
“Tipis have been a popular choice for events in the UK for the last 20 years,” explained Tom Basnett, managing director of Creative Structures Group, which specialises in tipis, stretch tents, and sail tents . “They are modular structures that can be configured into endless formations, with the largest capable of seating up to 600 guests. But the key to successful tipi events is understanding the guest route or journey. The nature of the structures makes them perfect for creating grand reveals or guiding guests through different areas using linking structures. To get the most out of a tipi supplier, it’s essential to clearly communicate this journey so the structure’s layout can be designed around it.”
Ash Austin, managing director of Evolution Dome, which specialises in inflatable
structures, concurred with Basnett. The guest journey is paramount but what’s even more important is transparency.
Austin said: “For the most successful outcomes with temporary structures, we find a collaborative approach is far more effective than a rigid, prescriptive tender. The best partnerships begin with a brief that is open to creative input. Organisers who share their core objectives – what each area is for and the desired delegate flow – rather than providing a fixed list of structures, allow us to propose solutions that are often more creative and efficient.
“This process should be supported by a full and early disclosure of all site constraints. Clear information on access routes, power availability, and any protected elements on site is fundamental.”
According to John Cochrane, sales director at Losberger De Boer, the most valuable briefs are clear, well-structured, and include lots of technical details like site drawings and specifics on build constraints or complexities. These elements are essential as they enable a temporary structure provider to get a sense of the event site.
Cochrane said: “Many tenders we receive read more like contracts than briefs, which makes them difficult to follow. A plain explanation of what each requirement is for goes a long way. Also speaking with someone early on, even for just five minutes, can save a significant amount of time in understanding
both the client and event vision. Plus, it’s always useful to know why the project has come to tender in the first place – whether that’s price checking or design changes, for instance.”
Creative Structures Group specialises in sail cloth structures, which can include PVC pole tents, traditional pole tents, and “genuine sail cloth tents”. Traditional pole tents, typically recognisable by their heavy canvas roof, rope fixings and eight-foot gaps between outer poles, offer a rustic charm ideal for festivals or relaxed chill-out spaces. PVC pole tents occupy the middle ground, using modern strap fixings and larger three-metre spacing between poles. These tents mimic genuine sail cloth structures but have a plastic PVC roof, making them a cost-effective option suitable for village fêtes or weddings. Genuine sail cloth structures, however, feature translucent canvas roofs, providing bright, airy spaces with a natural aesthetic, perfect for premium events and upscale weddings.
Basnett explained that each temporary structure is suitable for different events, which is why event organisers must always dig into the detail to understand exactly what marquee is being provided so it can be matched to the event.
Austin concluded: “When we have a complete understanding of both the event’s goals and the site’s physical limitations from the start, we can design and deliver a truly optimal and successful event space.”

Lisa Knipe, operations director at CarFest, reveals how – and why – she changed her approach to contracting 25 different structure suppliers for the 2025 edition of the family-friendly festival
ince its inception in 2012, CarFest has been dedicated to supporting UK children’s charities, donating 10 per cent of tickets and all profits from the festival to its charity partners. In 2024, the family-friendly festival raised an impressive £1.26 million and every year, it hopes to generate even more vital funds for good causes.
But whilst CarFest is known for celebrating cars and music, the three-day festival at Laverstoke Park, Hampshire, also features a packed programme of content that has
nothing to do with revving engines or charttopping bands.
CarFest is comprised of StarFest, SpaFest, KidsFest, FoodFest, and RetroFest. Each area ensures ticketholders have access to a varied line-up with something to suit a wide range of tastes and interests.
These feature areas each require their own look and feel, which is why Lisa Knipe, operations director at CarFest, decided to sit down, make a plan, and consider all the structures being used at the 2025 event.
A couple of years ago, Knipe looked at changing some of the structures used for regular feature areas like The Author Stage and the Chef Demo Stage. However, the new solutions she found did not work as well. She opted to stick with the structures that worked but that has not stopped her from refreshing other content-led areas that require something a little different.
Knipe explained: “Every year, I create a master spreadsheet with things like, what
purpose the structure needs to serve, what the capacity needs to be, and does it need to be light.
“This year, we took a step back and said, actually, what area of the event is the structure going to be in? So if it’s in KidsFest, it has to be a colourful big top. If it’s in SpaFest, it needs to be a wood frame, because it needs to fit with that earthy, natural look. If it’s in RetroFest it has to look retro. That approach has actually worked really well and I’m hoping it will give the festival a bit more personality.”
Knipe continued: “For example, we ‘ve got a new arcade games tent in RetroFest. We knew we wanted something dark on the inside, that felt retro on the outside, that was
big enough to accommodate arcade games, and bean bags, and Pac-Man machines.
“For RetroFest, it was important that the structure looked retro so we looked at big tops and traditional tents. We knew we couldn’t have an A-frame marquee, and in FoodFest, we’ve opted for white Sperry tents to give the area that high-end restaurant feel.”
CarFest’s temporary structure requirement is huge. In total, the festival utilises 60 structures – a blend of tipis, stretch tents, Sperry tents and big tops – 44 clearspan structures, 42 chalet huts, and 200 gazebos.
“I searched high and low for some structures,” Knipe added. “When I rang people and told them the CarFest dates (August 22-24), I always got the same response: ‘What weekend? That’s the busiest weekend of the year’. So, for example, we’ve had to get Sperry Tents from 10 x 15, Sperry Tents Padstow, and White Bison. Because we
were looking for something very specific, we had to cast the net quite wide but that’s been a nice challenge for 2025, managing all those suppliers, including about eight new ones.”
CarFest has contracted Field and Lawn, Sandhurst Marquees, Harlequin Marquee Hire, Instant Marquees, Tents and Events, Gigtent, White Bison, Sperry Tents Padstow, Yes Tents, Cruck Tent, Event in a Tent, Stunning Tents including 10x15 and The Sail Tent Company, The Travelling Barn, Buffalo Tipi, Shades Canvas, Meerkat Marquees, Smiddereens, and House of Hud/Arabian Tents to supply tents, structures, and marquees to the much-loved event.
But how did Knipe manage that tender process? Did she write tenders for every type of structure required or did she approach some event suppliers and say, “You’ve got what I need, what’s your price?”. Knipe explained further: “It was a bit of both, to be
honest. With something like big tops, unless it’s a really big big top, there are not many providers. And if I have worked with a supplier before, and I know that they have got a good crew, and they’re reliable on site, I generally tend to book it with them. That said, I do always explore other options. But you know, if they have what I need, and it’s within the budget that I have then I pretty much just book it but then with other structures, where there are more providers, I do negotiate on cost.”
Knipe has a budget and previously, has allocated the budget between different areas of the event by deciding what needs to be spent in a defined area.
But this year was different to previous years. Knipe commented: “I took every line that had a structure value next to it, and I had one big pot to play with. That gave me a lot more freedom at the very beginning to say, well, actually, I’m going to overspend here because we’ve booked this amazing 20-metre dome for SpaFest because it’s way more suited to wellbeing. For that, I know I’ve triple spent on the budget line because I really wanted that type of structure but then in another area, I’ve underspent. The nice thing about the budget is having a pot with a bit of wiggle room and a bit of flexibility in it.
“And I will tell you, there isn’t a line in that budget, I don’t know,” Knipe laughed.
“Honestly, I’m like a sniffer dog if someone makes a change.”
EXCITED
Knipe is excited to see what the new structures will look like and the impact that their presence will have on the overall look and feel of the event.
“Temporary structures can change the look of a site. We don’t have big dressing budgets, so after last year, we felt like maybe these
structures would help a bit with the ‘dressing’ so I’m excited to see CarFest come alive
“When I started this process, in September and October last year, you don’t always know what new content is going to happen. That can be difficult because sometimes, I’ve had to book structures off the fly and make them fit and sometimes, I will book ten structures knowing what only two of them will be used for,” Knipe concluded. “But what I can definitely tell you is, we always use them.”
MUTA’s health and safety auditors Ollie Newin and John Thomson ensure MUTA members adhere to good safety practices. Read on and discover how you can work with them to ensure exceptional health and safety standards on your event site…
ou are MUTA’s auditors. For anyone that doesn’t know what that means, what do you do?
MUTA markets its hirer members as being among the best in the country. For event organisers, choosing a MUTA member means reduced risk at their event.
To deliver on that message, MUTA needs to be more than just a trade association that anyone can join by filling in a form and paying a subscription fee. This is where the audit regime comes in.
We audit new members to ensure they meet our criteria. Existing members have to submit themselves to both site and premises audits each year to demonstrate they are meeting the requirements of MUTA’s Best Practice Guide.
In simple terms, our job is to make sure MUTA members work safely and effectively.
How often do you audit MUTA members? Twice a year. Once on site and once at the premises. Some members may be audited more frequently if they happen to be seen on a number of event sites.
What can event organisers expect from your site visit?
An independent and collaborative approach to ensure that those working on your site are working in a safe and professional manner, and that the structures erected are fit for purpose and safe for occupants.
We’re keen to work with organisers, not make your lives any more difficult!
How can organisers assist you on-site? Is there anything an event organiser can do to help you before you arrive on-site? Providing site access, an induction, and a clear point of contact. Having key documents
ready – such as site plans, health and safety documents and contractor credentials – is ideal, and it’s always useful to know if there have been any issues, incidents, or accidents.
What happens if you spot something you shouldn’t? What impact does this have for the organising team and the event? Thankfully, it doesn’t happen too often. However, if we do, it’s our responsibility to work with the member concerned to advise them to put things right and the event organiser to make them aware of the action taken. If they fail to cooperate, they’ll face further action which could result in their membership being terminated. If the issue happens to be with a non-member, then
we would still make them aware but we would work with the event organiser to devise a plan.
What happens after you have completed an audit?
We record our findings online and generate a report which gets sent to the member. Each report contains a number of criteria areas which are scored from 0-3. 0 means immediate action, 1 means improvement recommended, 2 means compliant and 3 means best practice.
Members are expected to achieve at least a score of 2 for each criteria area. Members that go “above and beyond” can expect to score 3 for some items.
This year, Event in a Tent celebrated a big anniversary – 15 years of creating stunning event spaces in the great outdoors. Read on and discover how one incredible team is delivering the most eclectic range of outdoor structures to countless events across the UK, Europe, and the USA
When Matt Stephenson launched Event in a Tent in 2010, he had a vision – to create something no one else is doing. Event in a Tent became one of the first companies to launch Nordic Tipis into the UK market, which have now become a flagship structure in the events industry. The second structure type to be introduced to the company were stretch tents, which were a massive hit as they were available in various sizes and colours.
Stephenson then decided to launch a completely new structure and went on to design and build his very own Timber Geodomes in sizes 12m and 15m, which can also be transformed into Geodome Stages. The Geodomes have gone on to feature at major events such as Glastonbury Festival, Download Festival, Boomtown, and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). This structure was also short-listed for Best Unique Structure at the Festival Supplier Awards.
Timber Quad Domes were next on the fleet – starting with a 5m x 5m, followed by an 8m x 8m and finally two 10m x 10m which can be linked to create a 20m x 10m space. These
structures come with integrated spotlights and optional side walls. The structure is completely unique to Event in a Tent in the UK and provides an impactful space for any event.
Its newest structure, launched in September 2024, is the 20m XL Wooden Dome. This is slightly different to its classic dome with its sailcloth cover and optional clear/solid side walls. The structure has already been featured at some amazing events such as Royal Ascot, Maiden Voyage, and RHS.
Event in a Tent is the only company in the UK to provide this range of structures under one roof. Its team is comprised of dedicated professionals who love what they do and believe in the products they build. What makes the experience of working with Event in a Tent so seamless is that clients can create entire corporate launches or festivals using just one supplier which saves time and resources to focus on other elements.
Event in a Tent worked with an amazing team to create The Heat festival hosted
on Harwell Campus. The Heat Climate Festival brought together more than 500 climate-tech professionals for a magical day of networking, storytelling and science-celebrating. A 42m x 30m stretch tent formed the innovation hub, and a 20m dome hosted the main speakers. Tipis showcased cutting-edge projects, quad domes handled registration, and rustic furniture set the tone. The festival was a huge hit with one attendee stating: “The whole event was sensational. The calibre of the speakers, the variety and quality of content, and the tents were a huge hit.”
Event in a Tent is proud to be back with the team again this year to install an even bigger and even better setup.
If you are planning a large-scale event, a boutique festival or looking to stand out at an exhibition, Event in a Tent can help –providing structures outdoors, indoors, hardstanding, long-term, short-term. Call 01978 661449, email enquiries@event-in-a-tent. co.uk or visit www.event-in-a-tent.co.uk
De
Mcan create a space that truly supports the experience you want to deliver
ore than 100 years ago, two craftsmen, Friedrich Losberger in Germany and Klaas de Boer in the Netherlands, were building tents for local festivals and travelling shows. They probably didn’t realise it then, but they were laying the foundations for something much bigger.
Both companies grew and adapted, as Losberger focused on smart, modular designs, while De Boer transformed tents into slick venues that looked permanent, even though they weren’t.
Fast forward to today, and their legacy lives on in Losberger De Boer. While the scale of operations has grown, their principles remain the same: reliable delivery, technical excellence and a commitment to service at the highest level.
Losberger De Boer creates spaces that weren’t there yesterday but feel like they’ve always belonged. From short-term event venues to semi-permanent buildings that stay in place for months or even years, its structures are designed to meet your needs, visually and logistically.
That might be a striking VIP hospitality suite at a major sporting event, a pop-up exhibition space in the middle of a city, or a fully functional workspace in a remote location. Because everything it builds is modular, it can tailor the size, layout, and finish to suit your project, whether it’s temporary or something long-term.
Wherever the location, Losberger De Boer manages the entire process, from early planning and design to installation and dismantle, making sure your space is up and running, doing exactly what it needs to, right on time.
Losberger De Boer has been doing this for a long time, across all kinds of events, but every project begins the same way. Before building, it partners with you to understand your why, so it can create a space that truly supports the experience you want to deliver.
Whether it’s a high-end hospitality suite, a temporary venue in a remote location, or something completely bespoke, Losberger De Boer will be with you all the way.
Its work has taken the respected company to some of the world’s most recognisable events on the global calendar, from the Olympic Games and Wimbledon to Goodwood Festival of Speed and FIFA World Cup.
Losberger De Boer proudly maintains many long-standing partnerships with clients,
including Somerset House, Goodwood, and the RHS, helping to deliver spaces that their teams can rely on year after year.
Things move fast in our industry, and the goalposts shift daily. It takes a lot of moving parts to pull off a great event, and Losberger De Boer is here to make sure the space is one less thing on your list.

GL events explains how it can take your events to the next level
With its provenance in the UK events industry, GL events has delivered temporary structures to sporting events, festivals, exhibitions, and corporate events for more than 100 years. In 2025, its clients have come to expect certain standards from GL in quality, health and safety and service – and these are delivered without question, regardless of the size or complexity of event. Factors like its continuous maintenance programme and investment in new stock mean that where appearance matters, equipment is always crisp and clean – with no visible aluminium; and roof sheets and flooring are also refreshed, ensuring a highquality structure – from top to bottom.
GL events’ Absolute structure range is a real crowd pleaser particularly when combined with its elegant, curved roof (other roof styles are available!). Many clients are drawn in by its aesthetic qualities, providing a stylish and timeless appearance, that can be enhanced with branding and fit out. But thanks to its quality finish, the Absolute structure more than holds its own at the most prestigious events, even in its “birthday suit”.
For example, Absolute has more going for it than mere aesthetics. Its integrated down pipes, something lacking in other manufacturers’ structures, ensure that rain is handled discretely and efficiently – not dampening the spirits of spectators and partygoers whatever the weather. Furthermore, its lofty 4m roof height and lack of internal columns gives the multi-deck Absolute a spacious and airy feeling, lending itself perfectly to guests who want an unrivalled view while enjoying hospitality.
GL has recently boosted its fleet of Absolute Giant structures in response to an exciting contract win for a major winter project for 2025, and it is looking forward to offering these 30-50m span structures to new and existing clients for large-scale projects across the summer months.
But the company has so much more to offer than its Absolute structure. Its Q.WAD structure, launched in 2023 at the 44th Ryder Cup offers a new and entirely modular approach to designing and building temporary structures. Made up of pre-configured 5m x 5m and 5m x 7.5m blocks, Q.WAD means you can build almost any size and shape, up to three levels of structure. What’s more, its modular construction offers a modern, angular style in contrast to a traditional marquee which can be branded for commercial activations or further enhanced through fit out, furniture and custom fabrication for a more luxuriant feel.
2025 has also seen the first outing of GL events new Celeste structure, which has been installed as a temporary congress and exhibition centre in Nice. The modular Celeste with an open span of up to 50m and up to
with an electric motor – on temporary and semipermanent usage for showrooms, exhibitions and events where large square metreage of open span space is paramount. Celeste is a perfect partner where production equipment is needed, thanks to its 8-10m usable internal height and its load bearing capacity of more than one tonne. It also boasts exceptional thermal and acoustic insulation.
With many other structures within GL events’ portfolio, it really does have a structure for every occasion. But its approach is never to put the structures at the forefront of its relationship with its clients. It prefers to listen, and to understand objectives and aspirations. And where it can really add value is in developing a value engineered solution to these objectives, supporting clients to deliver something truly exceptional.
If you are yet to work with GL events, or want to explore how its structures and approach can take your event to the next level, why not start a conversation today. Call 01332 850000.
With a wide range of temporary structures, designed, visualised and built with your audience in mind, you are guaranteed to stand out from the crowd. and exhibition spaces with impact, GL events has you covered.

They provide a brilliant, site-wide solution and are one of our favourite contractor partners, who we’ve been working with for over five years.
“What makes AST stand out for us is their ease of working relationship, both in the preproduction but also on site. Provide them a site plan and, as a production management team, we don’t need to be involved again until sign off where everything is exactly as spec and as we desire.
“We really value this on an incredibly tight and busy site build. They are my first port of call on any shows requiring stretch tents and I would highly recommend them.”
Paul James, director of Nova Create, a creative event agency, concurred. He said: “We’ve worked with Alternative Stretch Tents for over five years and have consistently been impressed with their service.
“As a creative agency, we strive to find suppliers that are easy to work with and deliver an exceptional product and service for every event. AST exceeds expectations.
“We’ve used their tents in all weather conditions, and their team is diligent in ensuring each installation is safe and secure.”
James continued: “From start to finish, Alternative Stretch Tents provides an outstanding service. Always reliable, responsive, and committed to quality and safety - a supplier that we will continue to collaborate with.”

“From designing countless layouts with Nicki to site visits and the rigging of the tents, everything ran effortlessly, and at no point did we have any concerns which was so refreshing.
“To all the team at TentStyle, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for helping to create our dream wedding. We thoroughly recommend TentStyle!”

The Halo Group details how innovative modular structures can deliver a guest experience tailored to your vision
The Halo Group designs and builds modular structures that don’t just look impressive – they’re built to meet the real demands of the live events industry. Originally developed for high-pressure, quick turnaround builds, The Halo Group’s system combines the strength of permanent architecture with the flexibility and speed of temporary infrastructure.
From immersive brand activations to multi-level hospitality suites, its structures are engineered for rapid installation, safe construction, and complete creative freedom. But their value goes beyond just one event. Every component is reusable, making each build more sustainable and cost-efficient over time. However, have you ever wondered exactly what can be achieved with a structure from The Halo Group? Well, wonder no more. Here are some of the most popular questions, answered:
HOW FLEXIBLE ARE THE STRUCTURE SIZES AND CONFIGURATIONS?
The Halo Group’s standard beams span from 0.5m to an expansive 5m, increasing in 500mm increments. As structural spanning elements, they form the backbone of a wide range of configurations. Thanks to its innovative modular system, these beams can be connected in virtually any arrangement – unlocking limitless design possibilities. Choose from standard layouts or collaborate to craft a bespoke solution tailored precisely to your vision.
CAN YOU BUILD MEZZANINES OR STAGES TO ANY HEIGHT?
Absolutely. The rivet nut system that The Halo Group has designed allows for the
construction of mezzanine levels and roof beams at almost any height. These rivet nuts provide multiple quick and easy fixing points, allowing steel beams to be secured precisely where needed for interior walls or cladding, and enabling swift on-site adjustments.
WHAT GROUND CONDITIONS CAN BE BUILT ON?
Almost anywhere! The Halo Group has successfully built on uneven grass, sand, mud, tarmac, and concrete. Its system’s adjustable extension blocks and baseplates allow for micro-adjustments to every column, ensuring a perfectly level structure within your chosen footprint, regardless of the terrain.
HOW MANY FLOORS CAN THE MEZZANINE STRUCTURES SUPPORT?
Mezzanines are The Halo Group’s speciality! It has built across multiple levels. From operational ground-floor garages at Formula E to fully decked second-floor terraces at Goodwood Racecourse. Its system is engineered to stack columns, enabling multi-level structures up to 7-9 metres high.
WHAT PRODUCTION AND CLADDING OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
The possibilities are endless. The Halo Group utilises lightweight yet robust steel I-beams – permanent building materials applied in a temporary, demountable way. This means your structure frame can be clad with any material you choose, including sheet material, seamless branding, cladding panels, LED screens, or constructed timber frames. The Halo Group’s preferred method uses 60mm solid insulation panels, secured with its proprietary clamping system for a quick, weatherproof, and aesthetically stunning finish.
CAN I FIX AV DIRECTLY ONTO THE HALO GROUP’S FRAME?
Yes! The Halo Group has developed a dedicated AV plate that bolts directly to the underside of its beams. This provides a load-bearing shelf for LED screens, cladding, and branding panels, ensuring both support and a smart finish. It also offers an L-cleat for secure wall attachment. Plus, its dedicated R&D team can even develop bespoke cleats, clamps, and specialist components through its Design Lab, ensuring it has a solution for any cladding or finish you envision.
