The Spherological Flow- Urbanising flows, stitching interfaces
The design projects is an architectural ode to two leading urban contemporary theorists- Peter Sloterdijk and Ignasi de Sola Morales. Recognising the speculated fragmentation of the urban interface between Lorong Halus and Defu Industrial estate in 2050 Singapore, the prototype seek to heal this sharp urban interface through the two sites' shared historical relation with the main flow on site- Serangoon River. The prototype thus priviledges the urban concept of flow, mutations and networks over "locality, stability and space" as critique by Sola Morales, by designing a new fish scale to bio-materials manufacturing facility along the river bank at Defu Lane 2.
Through the mathematical study of boundaries, Voronoi was used as a design language to allegorically allude to the spherological bubbles in Sloterdijk thesis, and to programmatically attribute to bones and scale patterns. The prototype will become a new public site along Hougang and PLAB.
