Sermon Text: Exodus 15-17

Introduction

Discussion

At the heart of temptation is the simple question, do I believe? Temptation can cause us to doubt God’s plan for our lives. It is usully a pull of physical desires versus spiritual desires. And you find yourself asking the question, can I trust God? Is His plan even relevant for this moment? In these passages, the Israelites are learning that at every stage of their journey, they will face tempations and those same questions will need to be answered. We face similar challenges in our Christ Journey and we have to choose God over the tempations that come to distract us. 1. Review and read Exodus 15-17. How can faith help in overcoming tempation? 2. What are some practical tools that you’ve used to handle tempation? 3. In these passages, the Israelites face several resource challenges. How have doubted God when facing similar challenges in the past? 4. The Israelites faced challenges specific to their journey, what are some temptations that we face living in the city of Miami?

Application

1. Read: Romans 4:19-21. How can you use the story of Abraham’s life to inspire you in the face of doubt? 2. What action step can you take to put distance between yourself and a common tempation? 3. How can community help us face temptation? 4. Partner with a friend, and take some time to ask God to help you overcome any unbelief.* (Read Mark 9:24)
