Sermon Text: Exodus 12-15
Read Introduction
Discussion
Read the sermon text together. To make it interesting, have each person in the group read 2 verses until the whole passage is read. Some major events take place in these passages of Scripture. First, in Chapter 12 we see the Passover -- that is, the angel of death passes over each home and every first born’s life (human and animal) is taken. Unless, the homes have the blood of an innocent lamb painted on the door. Then in Chapter 13, we see that because Pharoah had enough of the plagues brought upon him and his people (by the God of Moses), he finally let the Israelites go. As the Israelites approach the Red Sea they soon realize that the Egyptians are following them with plans to attack. What seems to be a dead-end is only an opportunity for God to show up in a big way. In Chapter 14, we see that through Moses, God parts the Red Sea and the entire people of Israel cross over safely on dry land. The Egyptian army pursues them through the Red Sea but ends up drowning as the waters overtake them. God led the Israelites to freedom through what seemed an impossible circumstance. 1. Have you ever faced a difficult circumstance and felt as if this was the end for you… That there was no way past this situation? How did it feel? 2. How do you think the Israelites felt when they saw the Egyptian army chasing them and they realized they were trapped by the Red Sea? 3. What do you believe is required (in those type of difficult circumstances) to trust God and push-through to the other side? 4. Why do you think God allows us to go through difficult circumstances?
Application
“Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.”
-Exodus 14:13-14
1. How can we “KNOW” that The Lord fights for us? 2. If it’s true that the Lord “fights for us,” how does that motivates us to be still? 3. Why is it a struggle to “be still”? 4. In what ways can we get into a posture of “being still” even through the difficult moments of life?
