Tradition with a Twist W

e kept up tradition while keeping our distance at the Club’s annual lion dance on Sunday 21 February. By necessity, it definitely deviated from the relatively wild abandon of lion dances past. But it was suitably merry and noisy, and, most importantly, it was orderly and safe.

EIGHT IS BOTH A LUCKY AND SAFE NUMBER The lion dance troupe was a pared-down version compared to previous years. In keeping with the safety measures of the day, the group numbered eight exactly – two dancers per lion, three musicians and a troupe leader. An additional drummer played from a distance. All Members present were commendably cooperative, heeding Aaron’s firm request not to cross the lines that had been clearly demarcated with safety tape. The splendid pair of prancing lions navigated the premises, stopping at Turf Square, Jungle Cove, Pavilion and the tennis courts, delighting spectators and bestowing their blessings.
