Fellow Members,

VALE – Barry Butters

(17.11.1936 – 22.09.2024)

It is with deep sadness that I advise that one of our Past Presidents and longtime members, Barry Butters, passed away on Sunday 22nd September 2024, at the age of 87. Husband to his adoring wife, Loretta and immensely proud father of daughters Joanne and Kim, grandfather of four and great-grandfather of two.

Barry’s wish was to be privately cremated, with a Celebration of His Life to be organised at Kahibah Bowling Club, later next month.

Barry joined our club in 1995 following an introduction from fellow bowler John Warburton, a work colleague of Barry’s at Baxter Healthcare.

He quickly became actively involved in the management of our club and as you can see from the table below, generously volunteered his time in a number of roles on the Board, Men’s Committee, Coaching and Delegate to Zone 10.

For 12 years, he was the Editor of a regular newsletter for members called ‘No Bias’

Being in charge of sales at Baxter Healthcare, Barry, in my mind, was typical of a ‘travelling salesman’, always had plenty of funny stories and hundreds of jokes to tell. Only problem for me is that Barry and I (and our wives) would regularly ‘break bread together”, so I’ve now heard those same jokes many, many times!

Having moved to the Charlestown area in 2015 Barry joined the Kahibah Bowling Club, where he became Men’s President and more recently, Club Director. However, only recently he told me that Castle Hill Bowling Club would always be his favourite club and he missed it very much.

For those of you who knew Barry, I’m sure you will join with me in passing our condolences and best wishes to Loretta, Joanne, Kim and their families.

Vale Barry Butters, rest in peace.
