2023-2024 High School Annual Report

Page 1

Chippewa Valley Technical College (CVTC) shares a commitment to student success with our K-12 partners. We highly value this collaboration to ensure that students throughout the CVTC district have opportunities for a meaningful education leading to rewarding careers.

This year’s annual report highlights the collective efforts of the K-12 system, CVTC, and the fouryear universities with whom we have articulation agreements. This report provides a snapshot of the extensive opportunities available for learning, accessibility to higher education, and the benefit of affordability for the families we are privileged

to serve. I am grateful for the continued efforts to cultivate the partnerships that make the successful programs outlined in this report possible. CVTC is committed to continuous engagement with our educational partners to help our students succeed.

After all, our students’ dreams are our mission.

Most CVTC programs are open-access, meaning no entrance exams or scores are required to enter the program. For detailed program requirements, visit cvtc.edu/programs.

All applicants will need to:

• Submit an online application for admission

• Submit the $30 one-time application fee and supplemental items if necessary

• Be a high school graduate or have a GED/HSED

CVTC offers over 430 scholarships to incoming and current students. Our online application process allows students to apply for various scholarships by filling out a simple application. It takes just a matter of minutes! High school senior/recent graduate scholarships range from $200 to $5000. Some of these awards are program-specific, but others are general, such as the CVTC commitment scholarship.

For questions about our scholarships or the application process, please email cvtcscholarships@cvtc.edu.

Note: Even if you feel you are not eligible to receive financial aid, please consider filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Numerous CVTC Foundation Scholarships are financial need-based, and if you haven’t completed the FAFSA, you would not be eligible for those scholarships.

During the 2023-24 school year, CVTC continued to expand academy options across our region. New this year, CVTC partnered with rural school districts to offer a Pre-Nursing Healthcare Academy at the CVTC Menomonie campus. The manufacturing mobile lab traveled to Alma, Plum City, Durand, and River Falls High Schools to offer manufacturing classes and industry certifications.

In 2024-25, we will be expanding the Pre-Nursing Healthcare Academy to the CVTC River Falls campus for districts in that region. This academy is helping meet the needs of rural districts and helps students get a jump start on their post-secondary nursing and other health programs. We will also be adding an EMT academy in Menomonie, and an online Google IT academy and Hospitality academy in Eau Claire. CVTC, in partnership with many school districts, has been fortunate to receive several grants that support high school academies that have afforded districts these new opportunities.

Transcripted Credit Agreements

Transcripted credit allows high school students to earn college credit at their high school. This is accomplished through transcripted credit agreements arranged between the high school districts and CVTC. Transcripted credit courses are CVTC courses taught in high school by certified high school instructors using the technical college competencies and grading scale. These credits are transferable to any Wisconsin Technical College and may also transfer to a four-year college.

With the inclusion of dual credit in the 2023-2024 strategic goals, CVTC increased efforts to create and support transcripted credit courses within our district. There were 79 different transcripted credit courses offered and 546 sections running this year across our region. To defray the cost of course development, equipment purchases, and maintenance, CVTC assisted high schools in purchasing items such as science lab equipment, industry software, and other supplies.

Start College Now

The Start College Now program allows all public high school juniors and seniors who meet specific program requirements to take classes at CVTC. This program offers credit toward both high school graduation and a college degree.

Applications are due to the high schools by March 1 for Fall semester and October 1 for Spring semester. CVTC works with high schools to offer classes in all career pathways throughout all dual credit programs to help meet the individual academic and career planning goals of all our high school students in the region.

When college costs and the resulting student debt are rising, families are looking for ways to reduce expenses and time spent in college. Enrolling in dual credit courses while in high school is an effective way for college-bound students to save time and money. We have recognized our high school partners for their efforts in advancing dual credit options at their high schools.
