As a future Graduate Interior Designer, students must possess a broad vocabulary and understanding of contractual, professional, and legislative terms. Each group is required to look into one key topic and conduct an in-depth study to gain an adequate understanding how each term applies to the practice. Students will synthesize the Uniform Building by Laws 1984 and other relevant regulations related to provisions for interior (and some exterior) spaces.
[Group & Individual] WEEK1-4
[Group & Individual]
KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE FORUM + PDW SUMMARY , includes three tasks that collectively contribute 35% to the final grade. Its purpose is to encourage democratic dialogue and active engagement in online forums, fostering personal and academic development through peer interaction.
Students must organize into groups based on project themes and propose abstracts that align closely with their chosen theme. Weekly forum participation is mandatory, as it contributes to their overall marks. Additionally, students are required to write some comments for each forum discussion.
During Professional Development Week (PDW), students must attend a minimum of five(5) seminars and subsequently submit a summary or reflection for each seminar. These reflections should include both text and mindmap, compiled in a PDF format.
WEEK4-12
Abstract:
With the rise of unregistered firms offering architectural and interior design services through social media in Malaysia, professionals face growing challenges. These firms often undercut registered companies, utilizing unlicensed designers and architects, creating risks for clients and undermining industry standards. At the same time, rapid advancements in technology, including AI, are threatening to replace traditional roles in design
How can the architectural and interior design professions navigate these twin threats illegal practices and automation while ensuring they remain relevant, innovative and in demand? What strategies can be employed to maintain professional integrity, embrace technology, and ensure sustainable growth in a shifting landscape? Discuss

AI has advanced to the point where it has replaced newspapers as the primary media platform and traditional CDs with streaming services like YouTube and Spotify Without us even realizing it several industries have already vanished. Could ours be next?
Our situation is precarious not only is AI increasingly capable of taking over tasks like drafting and design but many unregistered practitioners are undercutting the market with low prices, damaging the industry s reputation and devaluing our work If we continue to remain passive and let things unfold naturally, there is a high chance we will face unfair treatment and struggle to maintain our professional standing
To safeguard our future we must act decisively by embracing innovation, enhancing our skills and uniting as a community to uphold industry standards.

ABSTRACT: A Completion and Compliance Certificate (CCC) is an essent document issued by the local authorities in Malaysia It signifies that a b project has been completed according to approved plans and complies Malaysian building codes, regulations, and safety standards. In Malaysia, it is mandatory to obtain a CCC before a property can be le occupied CCC confirms that a building is safe for occupation emphasiz safety It also highlights the complexities and diligence involved in the a process, underlining the importance of transparency, adherence to regu cooperation between developers and local authorities to ensure that str the highest standards of safety and compliance
These processes are often time-consuming, requiring significant admini and adherence to strict guidelines. In many cases, project timelines are placing additional pressure on architects and developers to meet the re within limited timeframes This situation makes it difficult for profession on creating high-quality designs, as a large portion of their efforts are d navigating these submission processes

Submitting building plans and the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) to local authorities is a crucial step in ensuring a building s safety, legality, and compliance with regulations It confirms that fire safety (Bomba) structural integrity, zoning, and environmental considerations are all properly addressed This process ensures the building is safe for occupancy and aligns with urban planning standards.
Failing to submit these documents can lead to serious consequences, such as fines project delays, or even the building being sealed and declared unfit for living By following the proper procedures, developers can avoid these risks and provide peace of mind for everyone involved, from construction teams to future occupants, ensuring a smooth and successful project. Students are required to apply their knowledge gained in Project 1 & Discussions from Project 2 into their individual thesis projects from AIAD 2.
Each regulatory, legislative, or technical provisions must be translated into an informative graphical presentation with dimensions, drawings, isometric drawings, and materials where necessary. Students will be assessed based on their ability to explain and apply knowledge in their Final AIAD2 Project.
WEEK9-14
In conclusion, the extensive and complex journey through the Final Assignment on By-Law application and prerequisites in Malaysia has been truly transformative. The process of translating the theoretical knowledge gathered from Project 1 and the substantial discussions from Project 2 into a practical application in my individual thesis project for AIAD2 has presented both challenges and immense rewards.
Creating an informative graphical presentation that synthesizes regulatory, legislative, and technical provisions required a deep understanding of the intricate web of by-laws governing interior architecture in Malaysia. Converting these provisions into dimensions, drawings, isometric representations, and material specifications demanded meticulous attention to detail and a nuanced understanding of how each element affects compliance and design functionality.
This Final Assignment has deepened my knowledge and underscored the importance of applying theoretical concepts in real-world situations. It has fostered a profound appreciation for the extensive regulatory considerations in interior architecture, illustrating that adherence to by-laws is not merely a legal obligation but an essential component in crafting safe, functional, and visually appealing environments.
As I look back on the culmination of this module, I not only take away a clearer understanding of by-laws in interior architecture but also an enhanced skill set for translating complex regulations into practical design solutions. This experience has served as a vital stepping stone, equipping me for the intricate balance of creativity and compliance essential in the professional realm of interior architecture.
