MESSAGE FROM OUR PURPLE LEGIONNAIRE

Summer is here, thankfully, and I trust everyone is enjoying the season! The Chapter's march through the Spring semester was one chocked full of activity and incredible work. In addition to the usual collegiate activities, Chi Deuteron was successfully executing a transition of officer terms from mid-term elections to an election cycle that now aligns with the school year This move was several years in the making and will enable us to tap experienced leadership and wisdom in all roles more effectively, while adding stability for the Chapter

Also of note is the Chapter's early adoption of the "new model" for joining and membership as mandated by IHQ This model, while filled with challenges, offers much hope for the future and is representative of the societal and collegiate paradigm shifts in which we live today. The Brothers have been hard at work planning the transition and installing programming necessary to continue our success under a new way of doing things. With this transition, an incredible pressure is put upon our recruiting process. The importance of identifying and then inviting the right men to join FIJI, who have demonstrated they meet our criteria and qualities of members, has never been greater. In that respect, recruiting has shifted to more of a "job interview/screening" process where candidates are vetted prior to a bid in a dynamic and complete manner As such, recruiting requires a very high functioning engine along with team members who have both high-end engagement and advanced evaluative skills to execute it successfully All of this change occurring while KSU continues to see first year male student enrollment decline, and the competition for new members as intense as it ever has been among our Greek organizations. You can be extremely proud of the Chapter's response to these challenges as they have locked in a full Fall class for next year, which looks to be another highly accomplished and talented group of Phi Gam's.

Under new University leadership, the re-affiliation of the Greek system with the University is entering its final stages, and we will return to campus this Fall as a recognized campus organization. This ends six years of separation and culminates two semesters of work to light the path to unification It will bring many benefits to our members, not the least of which is in recruiting and visibility to new freshman

Did I say it was a busy semester? In addition to the above, the leadership team, along with key committee members, put in a herculean and well-focused effort on our International Awards submissions prior to Pig Dinner last semester They had many achievements and best in class programming to show off in their submission and worked diligently to complete applications for every award category. We will learn the results of the Chapter's efforts later this Summer. Suffice it to say, your Brothers have worked very hard to be in a position to receive recognition and put their best foot forward in their submissions.

Lastly, I wish to thank all of the volunteers who work for our Chapter The past year has seen the most engagement at all levels by our alumni I can recall in my time as a FIJI These Brothers are building relationships, mentoring, and just hitting it out of the park. The impact of your committee is apparent by the results we are seeing, and the fun our Graduates are having while winning. To all who donated to projects the past several years...THANK YOU!! With your support and the leadership of our House Corporation, our property has never looked, or functioned better To each of you who are members of the Excellence Club, I thank you for your support As a direct result of your contributions, several programs have been in place the last 4 years around the areas of leadership and scholarship These efforts have produced objective and clear evidence of success, not the least of which culminated in Chi Deuteron achieving #1 status in grades in the Fall semester. This would not have happened without the direct scholastic support of your dollars provided to the Chapter. We are funding many innovative programs with your contributions, which are developing our Brothers to be the best they can be while helping Chi Deuteron compete for and attract the best and brightest young men coming to Kansas State

It is an honor to serve alongside you and work with our Undergraduate Brothers. They are one heck of a bunch!

Fraternally,

Chris Hupe '94

RECRUITMENT UPDATE

"Rush is the Lifeblood of the Fraternity!"

The Rush Team has once again done a great job signing another strong class for the Fall of 2023! This was a whole House effort with 18 men moving into 1919 Hunting in August The Undergraduate Chapter is very excited to welcome these young men.

The Team held various events in the Spring including group dinners, individual dinners and a paintball event. The Team also participated in the K-State Open House showcasing our Chapter. Very few fraternities participated in the one-day KState Open House, so it was great to see Chi Deuteron so well represented This Fall, starting in September, the Team plans to host a few key events to get to know potential Fall 2024 New Members.

If you're aware of any qualified men headed to Kansas State for Fall '24 please forward names and contact information to Mitch Keating (mkeating1108@gmail.com) or Bill Giltner(wcgkc1@hotmail.com).

Special Welcome to our 18 new Brothers! Look out for bios and updates for our new Brothers in our next Newsletter!

FIJI MOM'S WEEKEND

This year's Mom's Weekend was one for the books! The Brothers enjoyed spending some quality mother and son time as we put on a karaoke night, auction and finished the day off by watching the Kansas State Men's Basketball Team play in the NCAA Tournament.

Karaoke night was a huge success as mothers and sons showed off their vocal skills and made it clear which families had the singing genes in their blood.

The auction was the most successful auction we have put on between Mom's and Dad's weekends by raising over $11,000. There is no doubt the Dads will step up their game next year!! The money was used for various projects around the house as well as helping fund this year's Christmas decorations.

While the Cats didn't fare as well in the NCAA tournament that night, it was great to host our Moms in our house while utilizing the amazing new movie room and brotherhood room!

COMMUNITY SERVICE UPDATE

TREVOR MEAD (FALL '22)

The Brothers of Chi Deuteron continued our commitment to the local community by giving back through our Community Service efforts. This Spring saw the Brothers pitching in do their part.

In mid-April, the FIJI's once again conducted a Community Service event to clean up trash from our portion of Highway 177 leading into Manhattan. Although it was a cold and windy day, the Brothers were successful in picking up trash and making our part of the highway clean once again for the community.

In May, the Brothers of Chi Deuteron participated in our final Community Service project of the year. The FIJI's went to T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter and took care of some wonderful dogs by helping feed, wash and play with them. The Brothers and dogs had a great time, and we can't wait to do it again next year!

CAREER PREP DAY

JACKSON WHITE (FALL '21)

As a part of taking that next step after college, the Brothers of Chi Deuteron held a Career Preparation Day in the Spring semester. The goal of the event was to assist with the transition into Summer jobs and internships.

Chi Deuteron invited a member of the Career Readiness Center through Kansas State University as well as a local Loan Officer from Bank of the Flint Hills. This was a great event as Brothers learned more on how to properly prepare for interviews, attire in the workplace, pointers on resumes and cover letters and well as other tips and tricks.

These skills were put into place as many of our Brothers have varying Summer Internships across all different fields of work while other Brothers were able to utilize these skills post graduation in their job search.

CHI DEUTERON SUMMER SUMMIT

In mid-July, Undergrads and BCA Grad Brothers gathered in the K-State Union to cover various topics related to the Chapter and to lay the foundation for the upcoming 2024-2025 year. In attendance were over 30 Brothers, which almost doubled over the previous Summer Summit.

Purple Legionnaire, Chris Hupe '94, kicked off the meeting and led the discussions with a review of current state of the Chapter and vision moving into the new school year. The Brothers then broke out into breakout sessions to cover 6 main areas of focus for the Chapter:

1) Growth System (Recruitment)

2) Scholarship

3) Philanthropy/Community Service

4) Judicial Board

5) BTL/FOC

6) Social & Brotherhood

In the breakout sessions, the Brothers focused on topics to review activities from the prior year, what was successful, opportunities for improvement as well as key learnings. From there, the Breakout Sessions focused on goals for next year, keys to success and potential barriers to success. The meeting wrapped up with Report Outs from each group and capturing Key Action Items for Tracking and Accountability.
