ook County Board of Commissioners voted 15-1 to repeal the controversial Sweetened Beverage Tax on Oct. 10 during a meeting at the Cook County building, located at 118. N. Clark St. The full board will finalize the repeal vote on the tax on Wednesday, Oct. 11. The Commissioners in favor of the repeal on the Sweetened Beverage Tax Included Commissioners Sean Morrison, John A. Fritchey, Richard R. Boykins, Timothy O. Schneider, Bridget Gainer, John P. Daley, Dennis Deer, Jesus G. Garcia, Gregg Goslin, Stanley Moore, Edward M. Moody, Peter N. Silvestri, Deborah Sims, Luis

Arroyo Jr., and Jeffrey R. Tobolski. Commissioner Larry Suffredin said he was “proud to be the only one to vote” against the repeal on the Sweetened Beverage Tax while Commissioner Jerry Butler was absent. The Sweetened Beverage Tax will end on Nov. 30, 2017 and the repeal on the tax will begin on Dec. 1, which gives the Cook County Board more time to fill a $200 million budget gap. Morrison explained that a recent survey highlighted that 32 grocery stores recently declined in beverage sales with 75 percent of the stores experiencing a 20 percent loss in beverage sales. During the meeting, Morrison also stated that it hasn’t been an easy task to vote to repeal the Sweetened Beverage Tax, but in the
